Thank you for joining us once again on talk and fight for another episode of the friday night battle.

Wow, have we got a fantastic episode lined up tonight, uh in the wake of a few amazing episodes, uh hosted by mike and cedric on knuckle up where they had both james hagler and tim witherspoon on the show talking about murderers row and those guys did a Fantastic job, i invite you to go back to those shows, take a look because they are amazing.

They deserve to be movies, quite frankly, the stories that they were told.

I i was telling someone about uh about the prisons, the prison stories.

Okay and and someone said holy [ __ ] holy [, __ ].

That should be a movie man.

I said what like that’s news anyway: hey listen on our show.

Tonight too, we also have uh tim witherspoon, the third hey tim, tim, hey.

This is cool, so this is a a generational thing, because we also have james hagler on the show who’s, the son of marvelous marvin hagler, fantastic stuff.

I i can’t believe this is fantastic and so listen i’ll tell you what i’m going to do, i’m going to say to you guys, uh we’re going to follow the same format as we’ve always done, and that is talk about the upcoming fights, the upcoming fighters, the Guys who are uh looking forward to to get in the ring going toe-to-toe, but you know what knock me out of here, because i i really enjoyed listening to you guys, i’m just going to interrupt if i stay in between so so so knock knock me out.

When i’m talking fight fans, you know what it is man you’re here for the friday night panel to hear uh.

What’S gon na go on this weekend in the fight game uh? Yes, we have none other than terrible tim in the house, again two-time heavyweight champion of the world and and tim witherspoon, the third, the grandson, the grandson of the man here and again joined by james hagler.

So let’s get right to it.

Man there’s some big fights this weekend.

Uh lots lots of good action in the house, i’d like to start off with the uh the taylor card, uh josh, the tartan tornado killer.

What do you guys? What are you guys feeling about that taylor, caddarol josh taylor, yeah man? Is he from england? That’S right! That’S right right, so he’s gon na you have to carry on because i haven’t been keeping up with the joneses all right i’ll, let you know taylor catterall uh.

You know it’s and the loaded undercard uh, including the featherweight contender uh el tran ramirez against eric donovan.

In a 10, rounder will be on this as well uh before fight night, though uh go behind the scenes in top rank and they’re gon na be showing uh.

This documentary style look at taylor from his blue collar upbringing, uh in scotland, to his ascension to the pawn uh powerful pound elite.

You know so you know once this youngster with a decorated taekwondo career taylor eventually set his sights on the sweet science.

Taylor represented great britain at the 2012 london olympics and won the commonwealth junior welterweight title in his seventh professional fight.

So taylor cemented his legacy as a scottish sporting hero last may, when he toppled jose ramirez in a unification showdown becoming only the second scottish undisputed champion.

In boxing history, uh taylor now turns the page to catterall man, the wbo number one contender from england who won the british title in 2017.

So this is a highly anticipated clash between these uns.

You know between the undisputed uh super lightweight champion taylor and the mandatory challenger cadderol uh, and you know it’s about to take place man this saturday and uh.

They were not lying about this being a really really packed uh uh undercard man.

Uh we’ve got prospects on here that i’ve been watching for for years now, man uh, we got patty the real deal.

Donovan is in there uh gon na be in that ring.

Ebony jones, you made her debut a few months ago and um nick campbell is on this card as well: nate campbell, nate, campbell, campbell’s, four, no it’s day five, you know he’s a heavyweight.

Oh there’s, another nate campbell from united states, a little small guy.

He fought pretty good okay, i don’t know how up to date, you guys are on these uh uh on these up and coming what’s the main event who’s the main event on that car main event is uh.

Josh taylor, jack cataral, it’s gon na be for the wbc, the wba ibf and the wbo super light titles.

So it’s it’s about dispute.

I ain’t too familiar with your life with the little guys [ Laughter ].

I’M not.

I agree all right.

Well, that’s one card! That’S going on you guys can catch that man, it’s gon na, be it’s gon na be great, honestly uh.

If you get the chance to do it, uh we got oh, we got it going on 2 p.

For saturday, for these fights man, because you know, there’s always a bunch of cards uh, the next big card man – is the colbert and garcia fight man uh that one’s turned at 10 p.

For that that’s when he almost got knocked out.

We got taylor caddarol undisputed championship super light going on 2 p.

Eastern standard time, the undercard is packed with a bunch of my prospects that i’ve been following for the years you go paddy donovan mark, mckee and uh.

Kurt walker is about to make his debut and uh.

You know nick campbell, four, now looking to stay five.

You know moving to five and oh, we got ebony jones.

We talked about her she’s uh.

I believe we’re getting her trying to get her on the show.

So you know lots going on man, then we’re moving on to the cold bear card.

Uh showtime championship boxing man kicks off 10 p.

m, hold on one second, one.

Second, the job, the just to remind people um, it’s a uk fight, so that means they’re starting early for us right, yeah, 2 p.

Eastern yeah yeah, yeah, definitely yeah and then moving on to the cold bear card.

Man um, you know we got.

We got chris goldberg action against hector lewis, garcia.

Both men are undefeated.

It’S gon na be a great super, feather showdown um.

You know we also have gary antoine russell will be on there man.

Another prospect that i’ve been following for years now uh should be uh should be a great match.

Man um, panama, art, it’s put on by panama, rpc channel 4.

Usa showtime.

If you guys want to check that out uh, it will be a 10 p.

m card, but uh there there isn’t too many.

You know well-knowns on this card man, so it might not be truly truly valued man to be honest, uh, i’m gon na watch it because i love all these young and up and comers man, and i i need i need to watch it for content for the Show so i’ll definitely be checking out all these cards this weekend for sure, but the big talk, the big talk has to be lauren to coley uh card guys with coley 17-0 14 kos.

You know he crushed uh, galway and galawiki in six rounds to be crowned the new wbo cruiser world champion uh in just his 60th fight at the tsc arena back in march last year.

That’S tomorrow, he’s fighting tomorrow, too yeah man there’s another afternoon, show too, because it’s uh in the uk for us, or is it night time so this one’s 2 p.

Guys, sorry, my mistake: uh lorenzo coley 2pm eastern time on the 27th so sunday, so it looks like we’re going to have a big card to watch before our show on sunday, then our knockout of the week award man perfect, perfect.

Oh definitely, uh coley 17-0.

With 14 knows, you know 14 kos uh.

He made short work of um dylan persovic in the first defense of his world title blockbuster, anthony joshua alexander yusikart uh.

He was on that man, but uh sislock, 21-1 15 ko has suffered the one and only loss of his professional career when he took the wbc cruiserweight um champ uh in london, junior mackaboo, the distance in the dominic in the republic of congo in january of 2020.

So we’ve got some big names on this card too man, so this is one that you’re just not going to want to miss out on yeah yeah.

I want to know about.

I want to know about the future champ though it’s him with us to in the third.

I was 6-3, so i was 6-2 playing football american football at south philadelphia high school.

I made all all city and stuff, but i got hurt in her in in college.

Just i had didn’t, went and played took up boxing, but tim could tell you his stuff.

What’S uh, what’s? What’S here, what are you saying champ? What are you, what are you looking for? You already got your next date set up for your next fight, um! No, but i’m looking somewhere between this summer.

You still amateur.

Are you pro amateur? He only 15.

He just turned 15.

hey what we were just talking about earlier today.

The guys just turn the pro early they get down like that bro yeah.

He has the potential he got.

He got better defense than a lot of those pros um.

He just got to get his body a little stronger.

He he’s smart in the ring, he’s tall and linky and – and he gives me like, like i’ll, be thinking like wow.

I was like that.

I didn’t get strong.

I had to build it up.

I had to build it up with a lot of my friends, my age.

They were strong, had big muscles and i just had to maneuver, but i didn’t have the strength and then i finally got the strength, but i wish, and then i’m saying i wish i had strength like tyson and holyfield.

You know like that: yeah yeah, i had skills, but that’s why that’s why you have to that’s why you have to rely more on the skills.

If you don’t have the power you got ta, you got ta, you got ta.

Your skill level has to be that much higher to you know to because you know if i was strong like that, i know they’re stronger than me, but um.

If i was strong god dawg yeah, a lot of people had the power to start lifting and and start training and stuff when you’re home just do like [ __, ], 60 sit-ups every time every couple hours do another 60 he’ll tell you you talk to him.

I’M out champ how you feel now you feel, like you got more skill or more power which which one you get more definitely more: skill: um, okay, okay, okay, what uh? What is that? What do you feel is the jab is the speed, the the body shots? What do you like working on the most probably the body shots body, shots yeah that give us more than one answer? Tim keep talking, um yeah? What else? What else um were you fought in the golden gloves? Yet no i’m doing that next year next year, yeah he’s gon na.

Do it next year.

He fight he.

Can he hold his hands like he professional and stuff and all that, but he just got ta build up his strength.

That’S all he does better than some professionals like when you throw like a punch.

He’Ll go boom boom, he’ll block he’ll, put his hands up.

He’Ll slip, he’ll slip.

He just needs strength.

I know his dad’s gon na know that that’ll come that’d.

Come he’s still growing.

Yeah, i know, but his dad gon na put him on, but the things that i didn’t do when i started right.

I didn’t do those things like my training and slim robinson’s like don’t get too much weight he’s like don’t lift too much weights, but you had all them other guys pumping weights and then you had some other training, the same: don’t lift weights, there’s old, timers yeah! The thing that you need that strength, yeah yeah the thing um when specifically you have to remember when you’re lifting weights is you have to make sure that you’re doing the stretching and mobility exercises to keep your muscles loose.

Because that’s true, that’s the main.

That’S the main problem like uh, a lot of old school coaches.

They they say not to do any exercises.

I mean strength, exercises specifically weights because you’ll get stiff and you won’t be able to move fluidly.

But if you’re doing your stretches properly and making sure that your joints are mobile and your muscles are loose, you’ll still you’ll still be able to keep keep your speed.

As you increase your strength, obviously not too much.

You still want to maintain your weight class.

You ain’t trying to you know, grow big you’re still trying to maintain your weight.

Last month you have to lift weights right, lift weights and then go play a game of basketball.

Oh no, you got ta stretch.

First, you ever did that.

That’S how you tell the difference you go: lift the weights and then go play.

Some basketball and you’ll see you’ll, be able to tell the difference like that.

You know you’re right about that yeah! You got to do it properly.

Basically, if you’re going to incorporate it, you got to do it smartly, exactly we have a question for you from the audience man um dusty modford wants to know.

Do you have any early stories of your dad’s career that uh that we might not know about anything like that? You talk about.

He talked about the champ.

Okay, listen! What’S the question um again, do you have any early stories of your dad’s career that we might not know about so a lot of them while they which uh, whatever whatever you like yo mate? Tell us, let’s hear it: okay, i’ll tell you about herons.

Okay, all right did when my dad started fighting when he started getting into boxing.

He uh moved to brockton, as you all know, and he got beat up by this – this guy named donald wilkefall.

He was the kind of bully in the neighborhood and darnell was a boxer, so he beat my dad up real bad put him in the hospital.

So when my dad got out of the hospital he was like, i’m gon na take up boxing.

He was already liking.

Boxing because his favorite flight fighter was uh, floyd patterson coming from jersey, so he said when he got out of hospital.

He said.

Look i wan na.

I wan na fight that guy that guy boxing i wan na, learn how to box and he went to the gym across the street from them, which was the pencinellis.

So he got, he got in shape, won a bunch of uh, amateur tournaments turned pro and he fought donald twice and knocked him out twice wow now, when he fought for hearns after after the horns, fight we’re sitting watching a fight up in a hotel, and i Look over to him, i say dad.

Tommy hearns reminded you of darnell woodfall, didn’t he.

Everybody reminded me of donald trump.

He said everybody would not be a deal and that’s what started him.

That’S what uh motivated him uh you know to to to fight man.

Interesting interesting tim i was in, i was in england with his dad.

I was in england with his dad several times.

We did events together and that was really cool.

That’S why i’ll be encouraging you to try to get the best out of training and do the best you can, because you can help people, you can meet people, and i was cool.

Was that the thing talking and i was talking about, then we talked about his wife earlier yeah you get to meet these people, man and it’s it’s beautiful feeling, so you just got to work hard, stay consistent and then the images win that last round fight that Last round hard always fight that last round heart because that’s the one! That’S just look at it.

If you finish strong you’re good man that last that last round really sticks in the mind of those judges.

Man, that’s right! I’M seeing i’m saying if there’s any means of him representing his mom’s side, the cambodians, they never had no cambodian um, you know fighters or anything like that made in stuff, not many.

We should squeeze that in.

If he’d be successful, they could do that.

I like stuff, like that other people do that man in the olympics come with the two flags you’re, not only representing uh black people in america, you representing um the cambodian people too, and if you can accept them, that’s money so big time.

I’M not thinking about money all the time.

I just wanted him to do good.

That’S all i know at the end of the day we know you know, we know how to go.

You know, but you know you ain’t gon na it’s not like you’re gon na.

Do free you know what i’m saying yeah exactly.

I got a question for the grandson.

Now: hey tim tim here, i’m here yep, okay, but little tim.

Let me ask you this.

Do you find? Do you find a lot of pressure having to pre like perform at your best with uh? Having that last name really on your you know like um, did you feel a lot of pressure carrying that name and having to perform nah man i was.

I was born to do this, so, okay, okay, okay, well, don’t just stop talking just don’t say i was born here.

Give us some more! That’S a part of it too.

What else i don’t know it’s just training is like there’s no pressure because i’m already used to it.

I’Ve been seeing my dad do it and everything um i’ve been watching fights on youtube about my grandfather.

You know it’s just what i was born to do so learning got ta, get used to it, so you just get in there and do work.

How do you find juggling that you’re training with school? You find it easy um at times it’s hard because like school is like in the morning, i wish i could work out, like you know all day, but worth yeah, but um it’s kind of hard, because it’s at night, most of the time when i wake up, We charged up you got to get recharged up from being in school sitting in the classroom all day you got ta get recharged up, get some energy for the gym at night time, right, yeah.

Sometimes it’s hard! You can see that.

Do you like training, yeah man.

I love it.

Okay, my dad loved it too.

You know when i was boxing i didn’t like training when i was younger.

I didn’t like when i was hey, i’m keeping it more honey i didn’t like, but i knew that i had to do it.

You know what i’m saying: most people hate the process.

I wasn’t a gym rat like that.

We all want the process.

We all want the results, but we hate the process and it made me feel better when i found out that ali didn’t like train training when i, when i when i, when i heard that i was like oh it could have made him feel better got to Be a fighter hate training.

I never heard him say it, but i can imagine that yeah.

He said he had.

He had a quote.

He said a quote like uh, i hated every minute of training, but he knew that it was yeah.

I remember saying that yeah yeah, but going back going back to what tim tim said.

Is it? Okay, if i call you tempt him is that is that right, um, you know uh.

You can’t teach that what you said like that you love training, that’s something that that you can’t teach.

That’S not something that someone could give you.

So that’s something that you have inside you already.

So that’s that’s a good thing and um! You know you.

You love training, obviously you’re on the right path.

You got your father and your grandfather, you know.

So you know you got the right path.

Man just just stay focused you’ll, be good man, you’ll be good consistency.

Mm-Hmm consistency is the key, might be a heavy weight.

So right now he’s five eleven five eleven wow he’s five eleven, but i knew when i was no he’s not five, eleven like five ten five eleven shoes, ten, so you’re, almost six foot and how much you weigh now like one forty, five, almost okay, okay and You’Re helping me, but you might have a cruiserweight heavyweight, undertaker, yeah yeah.

Of course that’s what’s going to happen, yeah he’s only going to get thicker man yeah! That’S what i’m saying you know if you keep on eating that boy.

I ain’t never seen meat a lot, but he had food like before the gym and after the jimmy had little snacks.

So it’s good to get big.

I think because they have a little slang and then afterwards you get a little snack.

Yeah he’s gon na pick up, as he goes: 16 17 they’re going to eat the whole house.

That’S how that’s all buys was they hit that 16-17 bag, so he got ta have arms, he has long arms, he boxes good.

He has that same style like i’ll.

Be doing like this um sometimes i think he goes like this, but he doesn’t know i’m trying to get him to get his make.

His jabs stronger he’ll be more effective, educating he’s on his jab.

He lays you on his jab and he’ll.

So that’s what we’ve been working on with the jab and getting them strong.

We’Re going to see good results after that, oh yeah, that educated jab tim tim who’s, your favorite fighter right now, um, currently or just like all the time currently currently uh, that’s hard, probably camilo.

Obviously, but great party, hey canelo’s, fighting uh may right.

Yeah may 7th yeah.

He took over that that cinco de mayo date after mayweather, so i don’t know he’s fighting yet but he’s fighting he.

You he’s fighting somebody right now my heavyweight uh champion w.

Let me think about that.

I think it’ll be a great fight.

I personally, would i i mean he is vival – is: is a top three guy in a weight class above what he’s fighting right now, so you got to give respect to that um.

Just me personally, i i would.

I would personally rather benavidez benavidez or charlo.

I just think both those guys are would come to fight him um and and put up a good fight, whether you know whether i don’t know i just think benavidez and charlotte will put up a good fight, but once again, ben bival is a top three guy.

At light, heavyweight he’s a champion and a good boxer in a weight class above so you know it’s still a good challenge, you think canelo’s on his way out or what i do.

I think so too.

I think this is why he’s picking his opponents like this yeah, he has enough money, he has enough money, he has enough fame and that’s when you start losing it a little bit.

You know.

So he did a whole lot of greatness and now is in his mind in his body, because because if you know what happens to you when you when you’re successful and then you just get tired of being successful, you want to rest and that might be getting Them now that might be getting down everybody’s saying, you’re, the best everybody say hey this and that so in his mind, he’s like he’s still young, though he’s still yelling his career, he’s still young.

How old is canelo.

Let me find out.

No, i think, he’s a a lot.

He fought a lot yeah he’s known all over the world as much as like one of the best you know so he might could go out earlier.

You know you look out here.

31 years he’s not taking a lot of tough fights.

How old is he he’s not he’s? So he’s he’s 31 years old man he’s had 60 fights yeah, but he’s been, but but dig this he’s been fighting pro since i owe 15.

he turned freight.

He oh opponents like this, but that could be that one last time he get hit and maybe uh start forgetting stuff after the fight.

So the thing is, is that maybe maybe i believe this bible fight he’s taking this because he believes it’s going to be the easier match, but bible you got ta, you got ta, be careful this guy man.

He can still bring it and uh yeah.

Definitely i mean there’s no such thing as an easy plank yeah.

We know that there’s no such thing as easy fight, man, no, no there’s enough to choose yeah yeah, that’s what i mean it’s uh.

If there’s like a and b bibble would be the b option.

You know [ Laughter, ].

I agree which fight you want to see which fight you want to see this year.

I don’t know that’s a hard question.

Oh wait! A minute man you supposed to be up on the scene.

No, i know you got to know where to look at some of the fights at least yeah, but lately i said lately: i’ve just been training and not focusing oh yeah yeah in focus the one thing you know the one thing, the one thing that i tell My boxers that you should at least be paying attention to the people in your in your weight class yeah.

You know just to see, especially especially if you know you you’re going to be.

You know, you’re you’re gon na be faced.

You might be facing these people in a couple of years, so at least you know, if you don’t have time to keep up on the whole boxing game, at least at least keep up on on the people that are in your division and and what they’re doing Right at least the top three guys, what do you think about uh, the uh demetrius andres booboo? Damn i’m keeping up with him demetrius.

I think he slept on man.

That’S what i think.

I think a lot of people sleep on him.

I think so tim you! Don’T know about him.

No, i haven’t been looking just been training when you get a chance check him out now, he’s in that category, with charlo, daniel, garcia and um sean porter them guys fought in the amateurs together, all those guys yeah, oh demetrius, at one point in time, demetrius was Right with those guys to make a lot of money, but demetrius made some wrong moves with his promotion and that set him back and he’s never been the same.

Far as um he’s been playing, ketchup he’s been playing ketchup, the whole time trying to catch up.

Yeah yeah, yeah and then danny and all these other guys.

Don’T they got millions man, you know they even got the shot yeah.

It just goes to show you man, you got to make the right moves with your promotion and you got to stay consistent.

Definitely you can’t have no gaps, the mini the minute.

You have a gap, you can it’s it’s like falling from grace.

You know what i mean like you’re in stardom and then there’s so many people behind you that the minute that you’re no longer in that media or no longer being talked about yeah yeah, the gaps, gone they’ll fill the gap with somebody else and that’s: what’s happened With him, because he didn’t, he didn’t make the right decisions with his promotions, yeah and and he’s been playing catch-up ever since i think he’s slept on man.

I think he’s a great fighter.

I think he’s talented.

I like watching him uh.

You know he has an educated job uh.

You know he sticks and moves like crazy man.

Like i like watching him.

You know i think andre would give canelo problems the same way, how our aries remember iris yeah.

He gave canelo problems.

I actually that was pretty close.

I i got ta, i didn’t know that was before i started scoring fights, but that was pretty close, that that could have went either way.

Actually, no boo, boo boo doesn’t give you time to set up right.

Like he’s he’s always moving like he comes in, he throws the punches out right away.

He never sorry, my bad, i didn’t mean to cut you off.

Go on.

One he’s had a few fights against against like lower level competition, where we thought he should uh, not the last one.

He finished his last guy in like the first or second round yeah, but like two two fights before that he fought some guy that you know.

I’M assuming it was a mandatory or something he should have stopped him, but he went the distance with him um.

You know, that’s what you know.

James is talking about being consistent.

You got to be consistent with your high level performances and then, after that, that’s when they can’t deny you that’s what your dad.

You know, marvelous marvin hagler they they were denying him at first, but because he was so consistent with his with his with his performances.

They couldn’t deny him at a certain point right, right, right, right, right, not just consistent but be consistent with good performances.

Actually remember that tim tim, so i want to ask i want to ask you guys this so because this eddie hearn has done this two fight deal with uh with canelo uh.

If canelo gets through vival, what do you guys think about his chances against triple g? Because that’s what’s up next for him, he’ll beat him triple.

Z will be 40.

, beat him twice already.

He might knock him out this time.

[, Music ], you think canelo a beat triple g.

The third time knock him out triple g, be 40 years old.

I mean i know: well let that be wrong.

Yeah, i’m assuming i’m assuming triple g, is that he doesn’t live a bad lifestyle.

I’M sure he didn’t seem to be the type of guy to be out partying and drinking.

So, even though he’s 39 40, you know, but at some point i don’t explain this to tim.

You know this like that.

You still got your man strength, but at that age the reflexes and the reaction time are just a lot of stuff yeah.

You ain’t chasing them, no more you’re, not bouncing that bounce is gone a little bit.
