[, Music, ], hello, there boston fans around the world.
Thank you for joining us once again here on talk and fight for another episode of the friday night panel featuring my core at four and, of course, two-time heavyweight champ tim witherspoon, all right.
What are we gon na start off with tonight, gentlemen? Um? How about the fight tomorrow, which one the jacobs fight jacobs versus ryder middleweight world champion daniel jacobs, will collide with britain’s world rated super middleweight contender john ryder at the famous alexandria place in london tomorrow, starting at 2 p.
m, eastern standard time, former wba and ibf 160 Pound king jacob, who is 37th and 3 with 30 kos, earned a split decision win over two-time world time, world title challenger, gabriel, rosado last time out in november of 2020.
uh miracle man who hails from brooklyn new york fell short of his wbc ibf and wba Middleweight world title unification clash with powerful pound star sal alvarez in may of 2019, losing out on all three judges scorecards, but three years on that 34 year, old still has a burning desire to mix it up with the best so he’s getting in the ring.
Man and uh it’s going off tomorrow, starting at 2 p.
m, eastern standard time, and we have a bunch of uh, a bunch of people on this card that we should be watching.
Anyway.
We got felix cash he’s taking on mega med medivh.
Felix cash is looking to stay, undefeated move to 15-0 and capture the wbc international middleweight title plus.
We have ellie scottney three and oh looking to take on uh george, i’m gon na, say georgina georgina uh.
I don’t even know how to pronounce this last name just say it real quick, just say: real, quick and yeah that one’s for the vacant, wba intercontinental female super bantam, title plus hopi price, another prospect i’ve been talking about johnny fisher uh.
Both these guys are on this card, along with austin williams, both all undefeated looking to keep that record clean and honestly uh they’ve been paired up against some real tough journeymen in the game uh.
So each one of these is a test man, so it’s gon na, be it’s gon na make it for really good boxing so guys.
I know there is only one card going on tomorrow and this is it and honestly, it’s gon na be it’s gon na, be a good one man, so it’s gon na be great uh, yes, ray ray ray agrees with me.
He says: look out for hopi price and uh sirius pattinson on this card top chance.
Yes, they are sirius cyrus, whatever you want.
I know that in harry potter they call him sirius and they spell it that way.
So i’m just gon na say that we’ll just say pattinson how about that yeah, but no pansen yes, watch out for these cats man, they are really.
You know they’re at the top of their game right now.
These guys are really killing it.
Uh super exciting to watch man and it all takes place tomorrow, starting 2 p.
m, eastern standard time.
So yeah man, that’s uh.
That’S the fights to talk about.
Did you say there were women on that card? Yes, ellie! Scott me ellie, scott! That’S right! That’S right! We! We have featured wba for the vacant, wba intercontinental female super bantam title yeah.
It should be great man.
What is amanda fighting um um? What’S your name from ireland, uh yeah she signed with um the uh.
What’S your name, uh jake, paul right, yeah, so jake? I think that was a good move.
That was a good move.
It’S a song.
He made her a millionaire [ Music ].
So that’s what boxing needs yeah, that’s your knees come on outside, though you need to come on your side and fully and fully um dedicate yourself.
Instead of doing the ones he’s doing.
You know, you know what i’m saying you know, i’m just coming in right.
On top hey, you know what it’s as long as long as he as long as he takes on legitimate boxers and signs into his his promotional company and does them justice.
You know what it should.
Okay, you know what i i’ll understand that that’s cool.
You know.
We all know his boxing what it’s about it’s a game, it’s a joke, it’s whatever it is.
It’S not real boxing.
It’S entertainment is what it is.
That’S what he’s doing, but you know what he’s doing he’s doing real boxers justice by taking somebody like amanda serrano, signing her and uh taking her who has been in this game a long time, who’s achieved, tons and tons of you know, accolades, really belts, tournaments everything Everything she’s been in boxing she’s done very, very well, and it’s now just that she’s been signed to mvp promotions.
That she’s actually become a millionaire man and it’s then it took her signing with jake paul to to earn that money, and you know what shout out to her shout out to him.
I think he’s doing her wonders man and honestly, it is, i hope he does.
I hope he does more for some other boxers it’d be nice to see i’ll i’ll.
Add my two cents, uh christian christian von sponeck, was at the uh press conference in london on monday and uh christian uh.
His website is called boxing two four seven: it’s uh one of europe’s more well-known boxing uh websites, and he was at the press conference and uh on his website.
He posted the video clip that he shot, i think, with his phone, but nonetheless it’s a good good video clip of jake paul speaking about the fight and for once i will give jake paul credit for speaking eloquently intelligently about not just women in boxing and how The sport has been enhanced uh by giving the women their just due and giving them the the dollars that they deserved, but he also spoke highly of female boxers.
Who’Ve come before them the trailblazers, so to speak uh he knew their names uh.
He know he knew the top names of the top female faders right now there you go.
No hey great, we’ve got another pro online here uh, and so i i was really impressed with what jake said about female boxers and how it’s going to elevate the sport in general, uh, um, um, real, quick yeah introduce our new friend, no, no okay.
This is great towns.
Why don’t you let them introduce yourself, you one day, great, no idea, no audio, no audio we’ll have to get it fixed.
What’S the matter with him, i don’t know.
Well, okay, you know what i’m saying i’m to the point: where whoever does it that’s good, because it’s good for boxing, you know the way he came about coming in and sometimes um.
You know there’s a lot of boxers upset because they worked hard to get to where they was at, and so i felt that i’m a i’m a former boxer and um jake paul just moved in because he’s rich he got money and all that um and then I came to the situation, i said you know what if he helped box – and i understand some of those boxers – you know he didn’t work his way up, but business-wise he got something to accomplish.
He got something accomplished with the girls, so i think it’s just a matter of sitting down and just talking and um, and you know, because you know i know them – some of them would be jealous and stuff because he did it, but they working hard too.
To do it too, so at least we got ta acknowledge each other talk.
That’S all, i think absolutely do we have audio with greg, yet no we’ll have to read his lips for a second.
The other thing that uh that jake paul uh said justin he’s cute.
He’S coming: oh yeah, there we [ Music ], i’m a new england guy.
You know i wan na as an amateur.
I won all the local.
You know new england, titles and all that – and i turned pro 1988 uh – went undefeated for uh to about ten nine to eight nine ten fights, i’m a new england guy man, i’m from the same city vinnie passes from exactly you could throw a rock for my From my house to his house, if you had a strong arm, you throw a rock along top of his house, i’m also from the same city that demetrious, andre booboo andre is from as a matter of fact, in 1995, when i fought for the new england super Middleweight title booboo’s, father paul andre was my manager me and paul talk almost every day, uh, i’m friends with i don’t know who else is right? We got to 2008 uh u.
s olympian jason estrada also from providence uh.
We got a lot of good fighters over here.
Man and that’s just that’s just the top, but no not as great as the great ghetto greg, though [ Laughter ].
You know you know ceo of punching bags, skunk boxing media incorporated, which basically consists of a youtube channel uh website a couple of websites and uh, and i got a a a gem that i’m putting together.
So i got my hands and everything guys.
It’S really a pleasure to be on your show.
I really appreciate the invite by the way, hey chip man.
What’S good baby yeah, you know, you know how we doing it.
You know day by day, yeah.
No, i know, if you don’t call me i’ll, give you a call later she was going, but you know what i’ve been missing.
You know had so much a lot of stuff to do.
You know i’ve been talking, we’ve been doing stuff yeah on the phone and everything and um, and i just forgets man i forget, but i’m gon na start reading books.
I got my books in the room, i’m gon na start massaging my dislike.
You exercise your muscles.
You got ta exercise your mind.
I did i did.
I read i read for like a couple of days and i did feel a little different, so i’m gon na keep on doing it.
Yeah! That’S! What’S something that i’m happy, i’m happy! You won’t want it! Hey! Yeah i mean it’s good to see it, i mean we, don’t we don’t talk all that.
Often though, but you know i talk to you, i try to.
I think we talk about twice a week.
I guess so.
Once a week i try to stay in touch, but you know there’s a lot of things going on and you know you know you you’re busy too.
You know i mean i’m busy uh, you know, but it’s always good to chop it up with you man, but you didn’t talk.
You didn’t tell everybody.
If i mean you know with with about your whole self, you said a couple of things: yeah they’re controlling the time.
Now you got ta, let greg know you know what time it is because i’m sure some people like the stories i heard.
I heard you right your stories, you told me, i think people will be interested okay, okay, how about this one? How about this? One champ told us that uh that that that you went to jail.
What uh yeah hey! Let me let me tell you let’s say: first off: let me tell you that uh there’s a saying around here with my group of friends that my wife can attest to this.
She always says: do not get him talking boxing he’ll never shut up.
So anyway, look man, i i wasn’t always a good boy.
You know i mean i wasn’t always a good boy and uh as a kid.
I, like any other mysterious kid.
I got caught up in a lot of uh: uh childish, nonsense, still cars popcorn all kinds of stuff.
So when i wasn’t in jail, i was winning titles.
I won my first title in 1979, i won the new england junior olympic championships.
I was 14.
that year.
I got to go to the uh regionals in governors, island, new york uh.
I would have went to the nationals that year, i think they had it in california or texas.
One of i went to the nationals that year, but you got to realize you got a 14 year old boy, kid that uh that never been off of broad street.
So so now i mean i’ve been in the big apple.
You know what i mean and then when they got me in the big apple man, i was having so much fun.
I wasn’t even thinking about fighting end up losing that yeah uh.
Then i came back uh to rhode island and when i came back to rhode island uh, you know i started getting mixed up with the bad kids again and they’re falling into a little training school, which is basically jail for boys and i stood a year and There and when i got out of there i uh i got out and i ended up winning the olympics again uh.
Then i went back to jail when i wasn’t in jail locked up.
I was winning times a lot all right, then i then what happened was i i defended my title.
I mean the kid mighty foley with a great friend of mine.
To this day.
Marty foley uh uh took my title off me and that was in 1980, but then i ended up going to jail for a couple of years.
Uh, big boy, big boy, jail uh, but i always look at that as a blessing guys, because while i was in the in the in the joint, that’s at the big house, you got ta realize that was a fresh 18 and if joe wasn’t like it is Now back, then the jail was in jail.
You know, i mean everybody come out the same time.
Wear your own clothes got guys with jew.
I mean it wasn’t like it is now pc we call around.
Let me call it pc, punk city.
It ain’t like that.
You know i mean back, then it was it was.
It was wide open.
So you know i was a girl.
I was a boy.
I had to knock on grown men, so back then we they had a ring in maximum security.
It was a boxing ring as a matter of fact, the boxing ring and aci uh marvin hagler used to come up there with chubby gomes and when he was uh coming up with the petchinellis and they’d come up there and they spotted inmates uh.
That was the limit before me, though uh, but when i got there they still had the ring and that’s when i really started taking boxing seriously and uh, you know hey what else is there to do when you’re locked up, eat, oodles and noodles and trains and Make and make toilets shine.
You know what i mean so hey i mean i mean look man, i’m i’m skipping over all that, but that was a long experience that was a two and a half year stretch that uh uh that i grew i grew mentally.
I grew up.
I became a man in there.
You know what i mean because uh you know i can tell you some more stories about the joy you know now.
I can do so i’ll.
Tell you one.
I just tell you what i love it.
Oh there was this: we was in the wreck, one time and the gym with where the ring was, and there was this guy.
I really want to say his name because he’s his deceased now you, but he he was a real badass in the joint.
He was known for smacking people in the head with bricks in the yard like so, if you have the beef with him, you really want to make sure you keep him in your peripheral, because if you, if he gets something back, he likes to smack in the Hell with a brick and lay out so anyway, this guy’s bad dude, and we was i was like i was a young boy full of piss and vinegar.
So if you said something to me, i’m ready to roll you got to realize.
I was already a junior olympic champ already going to blockchain.
I knew how to fight now all right, all right so so so i i just it don’t matter.
I bet you rock and roll.
So he comes down to me and says: hey young buck.
I heard you as a boxer – and i said oh yeah i was bombed by he said.
Would you be all right just stay out of my way: punk uh, something you have to check and i went but listen.
Ah, what, then, what do you want to do? And i i made a fight him and they and he said: hey uh uh.
He said i’ll hit you in the head with this weight because there was a weight.
You know weight bench right there.
He picked up at a a barbarian so i’ll smack you out this way.
I said: let’s do it so they all broke it up now.
Go swear with this guys, because this is very uh.
This is very profound and what made me get reputation in a man’s joint okay.
What happened was everybody broke it up and they said take it in the ring okay, so they made the fight for after chow, which means everybody’s going to be in the whole prison.
I mean i mean the ceos.
Was there, the captains was there, everybody was there and uh.
I cleaned them up.
I cleaned them up with just a jab, just dab his head, jumping back like that and when he when, when when it was all said and done, he uh he uh.
He everyone uh he or the next day, uh we got when we got up for ciao when i walked by him in the childhood.
He was turning his neck, like this [ Laughter ], i’m gon na get you man, and i said you know where i live – that buddy jko17, that was myself jko17, come through and kind of get ready anyway, my cousin had – i don’t want to make this too, Like gangster-ish, but that gave me a shank, i put it in my so you know he had to do them things back then.
What was it like? You know it wasn’t like it is today, so he never never came by and and from that all the og’s.
They knew that this young boy had balls, he had hot he’ll fight you, they knew they.
So then all the og’s they kind of took me on that wendy to try to uh.
You know.
Sometimes they make me run around and suck a shot.
So whatever you know, and it’s a little stuff like that, it sent me to punch somebody jump like that uh, but basically that’s what gave me my reputation in maximum security prison in in rhode, island back then, and let me let me just finish this one.
Last cap on this story, because it’s really a trip about this story because um when i, when i got out of the joint in 1986, i won the new england anu’s.
Two weeks after i got out yeah yeah yeah man.
I wanted jmu’s right there.
I got off the train two weeks.
I didn’t end up winning the gloves that year uh then um.
I started blowing up getting local fame and all that stuff getting newspaper clippers and everyone started recognizing me and everything started blowing up.
I wasn’t pro so i was on the way to the national golden bugs in knoxville tennessee in 87.
, um but d.
You know we we we when i got back from the nationals at 87.
I ended up turning a profession because i was invited to the olympic trials, which was really just olympic uh eliminators up in lake placid in 87, and what happened was i got in a street fight uh at a weekend? It got stabbed in the back.
So i couldn’t go through the trial.
Uh missed my heart by this much uh uh yeah.
I could have died that night with a street fight uh.
If you guys look at this here, there’s another there’s another little battle, stop for you, where i’m not gon na.
Do it out and not some dude i’ll call it and they caught me coming out of the club and jumped out of the bushes and tried to capture? No, so there’s a whole bunch of war stories.
Definitely yeah! There’S i’m a completely different man now uh, but one day when i was still drinking, i was in the backyard with a couple of fellas that i know was all in the back drinking and everybody passing the drink and i was drunk brother and the dude.
Stevie came up to me to say you know greg.
He says my this is years later mind you, i’m i’m pro i’ve been went pro and retired.
You know i’m semi retired.
The two soul call me say: give me they’re gon na give me some money, i’ll jump back in the ring, but that’s the way i was uh.
He goes.
My brother always said that the best fight he ever fought was greg thomas.
You know what that guy was.
It was the guy that was got, i want to say his name, but he was going in the prison thing.
It was him he said his brother’s, a bad dude.
Hey this guy had a reputation.
No one didn’t mess with him.
He was the bad dude if he said that his brother said he’s, never fought.
No one got as good as greg turns.
They thought that was honorable speech.
Brother preach, that’s right.
He goes to a year.
We go through years of of of of tribulation to trial.
Let me drink it and drug it, and i was i used to take people to atlantic city with me.
Five six people for the week and i admit, spend 15 grand just want me.
Go ahead.
Do what you want to do like having fun, but then i ended up just falling completely off man.
I became homeless.
I everybody left me, i didn’t have my family just didn’t want nothing to do with me which, by the way, my family loves me now, but they didn’t want nothing to do with me.
I was homeless.
I was literally, i went for a 1989.
This was a year 1989.
I had a brand new 1989 cougar, all right brand new and i went from there and i had a little bit money.
I wasn’t rich or nothing, but i had a little bit of money and i went to panhandling man on the corner.
Like wait, can you give me a dollar and people would come by and they just basically just call me, you know what i mean.
They just call me they’ll, be like all right look at the chair.
Well, i look at the chair, you bum you’re, your bum and they grab your bum and some people come by.
They have genuine love for me.
They’Ve come by and i could tell i could see it in their eyes.
They really loved me.
They said and they they said they’re here you know stuff a hundred dollars in my private or in my car you know, say: greg man get your act together.
He jacked together man and then some people come by and say: hey.
You call me so i went through a lot of emotional turmoil.
Okay and then i just met one um, one of my friends that i played pv football with uh back in the day, george lizzie.
He was a director at the davey lopes center, this rec center and he uh he.
He he’s my man.
You know i mean so he he sat me down one day.
He said uh man, you, this ain’t, you greg you, you you’re better! This man, you got ta, do something about this and uh.
He took me to the salvation army which, by the way salvation army, is the problem that i love to this day.
I i know you could tell me anything bad about salvation army.
It’S a wonderful program.
It got me clean.
I went in there in 2007 for the last time and i basically cleaned every since um.
I started my business while i was in uh uh salvation army.
Now i own a business called igt mobile services.
We do contracts with family dollar, we do sanchez with cvs.
We got uh, the dude got the bus contract with care new england.
We run a successful business now uh.
We me and my wife started my business with nothing.
We had no credit, no work, history, no, nothing.
We started piece by piece and now we run it.
We have a successful business that me and my wife run um.
I tell people that don’t use excuses with me because i’m a living example that you don’t have.
No, i don’t hear that black stuff everybody’s, don’t give me no excuses, because if i can do it, anybody can do it.
I get some scale.
I gave him no credit.
I came from drug and alcohol abuse.
I came from homelessness, basically anything that you just throw excuse me at me.
I’Ve been through it.
So don’t give me nothing.
So i tell people i’m a living example that uh uh.
You can pick yourself for, oh and by the way.
How do i forget the most important part? I i’m a follower of jesus christ.
Now i gave a life to christ uh and i follow the lord jesus christ and he does wonders in my life.
I got a wonderful marriage to grab me to a wonderful woman.
Uh renee for 15 years, i don’t get my ring off because i’m home, but you guys it’s just playing the trip that uh i mean.
Look man i’ll tell you when, when people tell these stories about these tough guys stories, i i tell you guys to say: look, i’m not i’m not i’m not impressed because uh i’ve seen your killers.
You know i mean i’ve been around these guys.
These i’ve been around guys that they had to put something in you and they don’t eat a sandwich.
So you know i mean i see some of these kids out there that they they they act.
Tough.
Let me tell you a little story.
I got a lot of ghetto stories.
I hope that i hope that that’s right, the ghetto hour is upon us.
I was back in the day again i wasn’t always a good boy icp.
I used to call myself uh dealing drugs, okay and i’d, be i’m not on a big big scale, but enough skill.
Let’S put it that way, a pretty substantial amount of money that was, i was making anyway uh.
I got busted and obviously because that’s what happens.
Jay they’re gon na i’m glad because either gon na get busted or you’re gon na get killed, see the one.
So i’m actually glad i got busted, but i’m not dead uh.
But i was telling this kid years later.
I was walking down the street and – and it was a group of kids on the corner – and it was all you know – slanging out little drugs and they had a couple of girls out there music and they out there doing their thing and i walked by.
And they said i heard somebody in the crowd say: oh they’re, going down to the ball.
Man look at these next and i walked over there.
I said who said that and then the kid something he didn’t want fighting and he just said you know hey.
I said it he he, oh you, ain’t got no money, i got more money than you and he pulled those how much money you got in your pocket.
I put on the guy like fifty dollars on me, fifty dollars.
Yeah.
Look at that man.
You made your phone on national television, you got physio, look at this, you pulled out a knot and the knot was about sixteen hundred dollars, and i told this kid.
Listen you idiot.
I said.
First of all, you don’t have fifteen hundred dollars.
You got seven hundred dollars because you got ta re-up, stupid, okay, seven hundred dollars in your pocket right, yeah.
Seven, i said see that girl hanging on your arm right there i guarantee you.
She takes two of that somehow some way 20 of that money is going in that girl’s pocket.
I guarantee it, so you do the math pump.
Now you got 500, i said see that car that’s gon na take gas ain’t it up keeping it.
It looks really beautiful, hey you got ta fight around the car with two thousand rims on it, which means you don’t need it anyway, but i said he says, look i said now you got three hundred dollars.
Okay, you understand.
I was breaking it down in layman’s terms for this idiot, because these kids are not bright.
I’M not a big fan of kids.
These days, people know that because they’re just ignorant and they’re disrespectful uh, but i explained him that if you got 300 in your pocket son, you can go work at burger king and you can make that money.
We don’t have to worry about getting shot in the head.
You know what it means less hours, if you think about it, if you think about it, it’s less hours to make that money in a bird you’re going to stand on that street you’re going to stand on that street corner for 12 to 16 hours a day Right, hey, hey mike, did this mike there’s people that get up to catch the we called the you know the you know the opiate guys you guys are women and they get about like four o’clock in the morning.
So you got so many viewers up like four five in the morning.
Yeah he’s preaching he’s preaching god: [ Music, ], just talk to him.
Talk to him.
Talk to him! Hey, hey! Do you take? Do you take your shows mike uh? No, i i do my show live every day, okay you’re alive.
Just so you said you don’t get because uh i like i said i run.
I got a little uh uh youtube’s uh, um channel small chat.
I only got like about 350 400 350 subscribers, but it’s growing.
It’S grown a little by little right.
You know, you know i like that.
I put clips on and stuff every now and then so i just figured i’d plug all right.
Punching bags dot com, where you get the best, that’s it that’s it plug it away.
When we collaborate, we collaborate now and then me and um great we collaborate.
Yeah being said, we always collaborate, man, that’s my man and where are you guys located at anyway? Uh we’re from toronto, canada.
Oh, i fought up there uh not in toronto.
I fought in nova scotia years ago.
I got to go up there to fight uh.
I fought the canadian champion matter of fact the year in 1980, when we went the guy that i fought would have represented.
The canadian would have been a representative of the canadian olympic team, but if you remember canada at the 80 olympics, so they didn’t go to olympics in 80 because we boycotted they followed the united states but uh.
He wouldn’t represent him.
So i thought a good fighter.
He was a good guy.
He ended up beating me pillow post him.
Now i was looking.
They got somebody from canada from canada saying about just talking about the show, that’s all hey from england.
No somebody from the uk hey.
I can’t see that i can’t see the uh.
Oh, i can’t see the uh the chat.
Okay, is there a way? I i can’t see the chat, i don’t know i might be special, you know you are you know your special champ.
You know you’re special yeah, hey jim yeah yeah.
Can i ask greg a question? Yeah yeah all right.
I got an ice pack when we started out uh this.
This channel uh.
You know when, when kovitz started and all that we we couldn’t meet in the pub anymore to talk about boxing and stuff, we started this thing online right and one of the guys who joined us online was the canadian heavyweight champ cabinet, bola ray and bola ray Uh was a fantastic historian and a real student of boxing, and he would tell us stories of a group of old-timer boxers from america uh who were black and and they were called murderers row, and i’ve told tim about these guys, that’s from philly right.
Well, you know was they from short term philly.
I heard that i i thought i heard that in detroit i’m pretty sure there was they were from various cities uh, but basically the shall we say at that time: white controlled boxing community wouldn’t allow them to fight because they were so good um, but it, but It was interesting to hear how many of them had spent time in jail and came out of jail, fitter than fit and uh you know, really knew how to box.
So when i was listening to your story, i thought geez what a great movie that would make.
I mean yeah, you know it’s funny, because if you guys remember, there was actually a program uh at rahway state prison in new jersey that they did years ago that they they should bring nbc sports right into the prison.
James scott, i was a smart partner.
I used to go into prison and sparring go ahead.
You can head back and follow me man.
I think you did tell me that all the people in there that james scott they had the boxing right look when you’re in prison uh.
It’S really.
Why do you think guys get it in the cold or steroid monkey dog because they they there’s nothing to do but train so yeah, james scott said they and i i see the interview that james scott did and he said that he used to do like 5.
000 push-ups a day, i’m like yo yup.
This is crazy.
They did that they did it.
You guys crazy chip.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Man sounds like a lot of down time in the uh solitary company.
There was nothing you you don’t have listen.
Let me tell you man, i did two years in segregation, all right, i’m lying not two years 18 months.
We might as well say two years 18 months.
What that consists of solitary is basically you stay in this.
You come out of the cell at nine.
In the morning you go back in the cell like 10 in the morning.
You don’t come back out of yourself for an hour until the next day at nine o’clock.
I did that for 18 months.
The reason i was there is because um i they said, i threw a cop over the chair, but it’s a lie.
We had a shoving match.
He fell over the first landing and hurt his leg because he wanted some time out of work whatever and they decided to state charge me uh uh, which is another five years, uh stateside for assault on a co and then they uh but another cop.
There was they didn’t like that.
You know what i mean: they got somebody to send a link to murders to murders.
Rogue.
Do your guys got that i actually tim.
I actually sent that back to you a couple of months ago.
What’S up? I’M sorry, i’m sorry greg.
That is a link to the murders rose story.
You said that you know charlie burley, lloyd, marshall, didn’t get named before coleman williams, coco coca kid lewis named uh.
These guys were uh.
They were just a group of guys in the 1940s uh who literally were were just uh.
They put on their own tournaments because nobody would fight them and uh they ended up.
Each of these fighters ended up fighting each other of a total of 62 times wow.
I want to check that out.
Yeah uh, the the expression murders row had been used previously to describe the the batting lineup of the new york yankees baseball teams in the late 20s.
Until this happened in the 40s and then they started calling these guys the murderer’s row boxers and uh, they ended up fighting uh who uh jack chase is on there.
Eddie booker aaron wade, uh, bert latel, and you know the other few names that i that i had mentioned and these guys ended up fighting each other a total of 62 times because they were feared they were the most exclusive men’s club in the ring ever known.
Uh they were so good and so feared that they had to have their own tournament to fight.
Oh green, green, not you again did you ever hear of charlie burley yeah.
I heard the old timers talking about it yeah he was.
He was actually.
He was considered.
The greatest fighter in the murderer’s row: what weight was he uh, um, middleweight or light heavyweight or something right uh? He was, he was middle middle middleweight and welterweight.
Okay, because i heard about him – i heard about him yeah i heard the old timer was talking about him in the gym.
His record.
His record was 98 fights, 83 wins, 50 wins by knockout 12 losses two draws and one no contest yeah, that’s a that’s a uh, that’s a good one! That’S a good record! There he’s pretty tough.
Now you know i was doing.
I did something on the youtube.
With some and i did analyze some of the old, the old boxes rocking my channel and um jersey, joe wildcard, no, no, no and joe lewis, it was joe lewis and then i did a couple other ones and i made a statement real quick.
I made a statement that those guys were in better shape they fight.
They could fight like a hundred rounds, but then to me just they didn’t have the skills you look at it they’re doing like yes, yeah, but but they were strong as hell yeah.
They could take a punch and they could punch so, but i’m thinking that, maybe i think i’ll leave with the behind or we can rip the behind because of the skills, because i knocked out guys that that was strong but didn’t have the skills.
So i’ve been for like the last couple of months, i was like you know what i’ve been going back and forth.
I think we, i think i would have knocked uh joe lewis out or those one of those guys all the way back in the day um, but you had to be in shape because those guys were in a hundred rounds before right yeah.
I mean around 24 rounds or something somebody was in shape.
Yeah they were in shape, hey jim all right.
One thing you got ta keep in mind too, is that your tip uh joe lewis is like was only like at his peak was like 205 10 pounds right.
Oh okay, he’s like a cruiserweight.
Almost he was solid.
He was sad.
I mean you know, you know at y’all, you guys you and guys, like you know your era, you know, you know you guys are a lot bigger than them guys like rocket back.
Seattle was only they said.
Like 198, when you won the title, that’s cool it.
[ Applause ], i had pains in my shoulders and when i started doing the hammers, the right side went away, but the left still hill.
That’S why i got this ice on it.
I got that dude.
What’S up jim, oh, you guys he’s hiding his pack of cigarettes so that came from um.
You know um.
I don’t know where it came from.
I was hit when i hit the heavy bag it hurts and then i leave the heavy bag on a dozen.
So it’s, i guess it’s because it is real, quick.
It happened when i was doing a roller.
I was doing a road one day and i went like about 45 minutes at the high speed.
That’S where my shoulders were now and it ain’t been right ever since, so i think i got to eat properly and and do the right things for my shoulders to come back.
So the right one came back when i started hitting the hammer.
It did something my right shoulder was hurt.
Then, when i started the hammer, the pain and everything went away, but the left is still there.
I got ta.
I got ta find out what’s wrong with that, so i can get back to 100.
Just in case the exhibition happened.
Hey did you like your rotator, cuff thing that was saying.
If that the older you get you get pieces, that’ll go in between the thing down.
There um and i was trying to um experiment or whatever touch it.
I really didn’t, feel no pain.
I did feel pain for the muscles, but um.
I don’t think it was like a crack like a little piece.
Chip fell in between the crack.
That’S what they say when you get older, you know you get little pieces falling and they got to clean it out.
This is what i heard.
So that’s and actually man, i don’t want to get cut.
You know i’m going to get no peace out, but i think if i rest the shoulder up i’ll, be all right: tim uh.
We we have a question coming in from one of the viewers uh women’s boxing channel um, wanted me to ask you uh.
What do you think about women having their own say on three minute rounds having their own say? I think that um, you know the rules is there.
I think that women could go go three rounds.
You know three minute rounds, they want to cut.
It short.
I think that um um – this is a quick one that you you threw on me, but but but in terms of what i mean three, they should be able to go three rounds.
I don’t think that they should cut.
Everybody should go three three rounds.
They train hard um.
You got a lot of women, that’s doing really really good stuff exercise and stuff.
I’M sure that they could do the same thing.
Do you think it would make? Do you think it would make for uh more exciting uh championship fights if, if the matches were three minute rounds, i think so? I think so.
I think when you talk about real quick when you talk about it is in your mind and if they talking about, can they last me or or get hurt within three rounds or whatever um? I think they can do the same thing.
We can do.
It’S only um, you know you’re in shape you’re in shape.
Right, that’s my opinion.
That’S that i think you’re right jeff, i think, are you dead? Hey you guys ever hear of a lady named christy, martin yeah.
I know everybody great.
They know everybody back when in 1990, female boxing wasn’t really heard, but people boxing was like, like not like a kind of underground.
Nobody really did any female boxing and back in 1990, i remember my children’s team.
I was down there training with mitch, green and daytona.
All right when i was down there well, mitch quinn came later but me and he did an interview the other day with him.
Oh you did you didn’t, do it yeah they did if you went through, but i had to talk to him.
I had to talk to him and i told him i love him and all that, and so he allowed the guy to come in and interview him.
That was on my way.
How are you doing? I talked to him all the time he’s doing good.
We just got to get him out there just so he can make some money.
He did that thing with tyson.
I didn’t mean to cut you off, but he did that thing with tyson.
I think there’s somewhere where we could place him where he could take care of himself and make some money, and let people know that he’s okay.
Why don’t we do what we what we said? I can’t get him to come on, but he’s kind of paranoid about people now he’s paranoid about his phone on greg like he thinks he talked to me because he trusts me reason don king’s camp.
You know i love him, but but when he tried to when, when i gave him brian’s number, he it shut him down.
He didn’t want to talk.
You told me, you told me that you said it.
I gave him brian crying is the marketing director guy.
That came home before and um he’s doing my youtube channel, but when i gave i should have called mitch first instead of let brian call them that calls uh mr shut down.
But then, when these people came to do the vid uh, they did a uh they’re doing a documentary on don king and other things um.
He was okay.
He i talked and said mitch.
These are good people, don’t worry about they’re, not tapping your phone and he did it.
He just did it the other day.
Let’S show we got a victory week.
At least we got to do that great.
We got to get him out here.
Well, i i i yeah, i i wanted man, we was planning on going up there remember one week we were supposed to go up to meet you guys.
We’Ve been working on trying to get mitch green back.
I told y’all before greg came on.
The show.
Memory was trying to do that and we’d be getting closer and closer we’re getting closer and closer.
He just don’t trust people for some reason.
He trusts me he trusts me, but then he may not trust the people that maybe i’m trying to hook him up with so, but he went through with it.
They went in there and gave him did an interview, um and, and he and i called him, he said everything went well and i was like now we got ta go to the next step.
We got ta go to the next step.
Yeah, maybe get it on here, maybe get him over here.
If we can miss this good guy man hey when i was in daytona me and him was like this me and me and mitch you’re my boy, i tried to.
I told you story about when me and then the rap or busta rhymes and epmd.
I tell you a story right, yeah, oh yeah, you didn’t tell us the story when i was in daytona beach, uh training down.
That’S when chrissy martin, it was the the the um, the guy that sponsored everything he owned the car.
Today 2500, you got a lot of money, so he my manager contact his media sent me down there because i was up there doing.
I can do a me and me street guy ghetto greg they said get out of here.
Send me the daytona to get in shape.
Okay, i get down there in the christianity.
I got a full way in the training camp.
The guy comes to me says: someone’s gon na come down the kid.
Do you mind? I said i don’t care it’s your kid.
It was miss green.
That’S how i met mitch, green me and mitch.
Green became really tight because he’s right down my alley, man, he was gay, i’m ghetto greg.
He was ghetto so come here so me and mitch green.
We really became.
We was boys.
You know we’re going back to 90 a long time ago, but uh.
He was real close, so chrissy k, christie and her ex-husband jim martin.
They came there uh.
So we was all this big happy family man like you right, train where being jim and christy go to jacksonville fort lauderdale.
We go smiling everywhere and then i remember they said that’s what i was going to say before.
I just forgot the side track too many punches in the head, uh risky martin said her and jim said they’re going to see don king and listen at the time.
There was no sustainable fighting in 1990.
If you remember, there was no such thing as that.
Nobody believed that you know.
I remember that you were knowing that people was doing.
It was a joke.
It was like, like [ __ ] wrestling for chronology.
Nobody wants to do that, so they was, they was, but they had to leave christy and jim.
They believed yeah, they they knew.
It was going to work and me and christy martin did a show at pinkland, thomas in daytona.
One day on the radio show uh.
We did a uh talk, show me chrissy and pickle thomas anyway, christy and them end up going and they ended up signing down king good job, miss pikmin, thomas real, quick pick.
The thomas is a boxer that wanted to tighten it for me: go ahead: gray, yep, yep, yep, yep, finished finished, so so anyway, christina left and uh uh.
They ended up.
You know signing down here.
I think she was broken, wrecking the first female fighter.
Yeah fight for a million dollars signing her yes broke all kind of wreckage hall of fame.
Now god bless you hey.
I like to think i got a little bit to do that.
I love look at.
She throws the reason the gym working a lot of times.
I say: oh look at that, you know he’ll go over chrissy, i’m just saying well anyway, the story about ms green was that me and miss green was really close.
We became boys like we, we hate every day and you know we tear down daytona.
Oh just tear dates on the beach up and one time they said.
If you remember back, then they always had something special going on on the on beach side.
They call it beat side either one week it’ll be mtv there next week, gon na be someone else.
There it was always something popping out on b side this particular week.
They had a rap show with epmd bust, the rhymes and the leaders of the new school or all these rap con rap dudes and me.
We went to the show and we was like in the back and me and buster i was [ __ ] kicking like i’m kicking it with you guys, like cool dude back before all the dreads and all that and he said yo.
We have an actor party.
Wan na go and – and i was like yeah back – you know – you’re gon na have all the chicks over there every day, yeah back.
Let’S do it so dave what happened with eric sermon? That’S why i don’t like every this day and i don’t care if you’re watching it.
If you haven’t, you see it, i don’t care, don’t don’t say that and you’ll bring it anyway, because he left me in a bad space tim all right every serving because he actually prima donna, acting like michael jackson to somebody didn’t want, but for some reason they Didn’T dig mitch all right, maybe because he’s big i don’t know, but they they didn’t dig him.
So eric city was trying to hate on on mitch green.
If he didn’t want to go so i was like uh.
You know.
I said man bump you you, you know i custom or whatever, and i i rolled with my boy mitch.
Well yeah we had some.
Oh, that was good.
Yes, i’m lawyer man.
I always get it.
I’M a lawyer dude, that’s just how i’m built right.
You know what i’m saying, but you just down like every single behind there.
I don’t know man like i see him, but who is he he’s a rapper? This is rap.
Dude he’s a prep for this group called epmd.
He had some hot yeah man eric sermon back in the day, man, yeah yeah.
I i i got like i don’t like.
I can’t even hide.
I can’t i don’t know.
I i’m sorry it ain’t to me.
You know you just you just have a bad case tonight.
Just say you like him in public, but when you’re at home, it’s good for you to say that everything’s cool in public, when you home talk about them like a dog, okay yeah in public.
In a hundred years you don’t even know me so it ain’t.
I just keep saying that, so he probably don’t care either way uh, you know, but i’m a pro fighter he’s a rapper.
So you know [ Laughter, ], it’s funny yeah, just just to bring this full circle uh.
Just before you came on greg, we were talking about women in boxing and we were talking about some of the really some of the really uh good words.
Quite frankly that were coming out of jake paul’s mouth for once, and he was talking about women in boxing.
He was talking about trailblazers in women’s boxing and one of the key people he pointed out to us all and the world was christy martin.
It’S interesting christie.
Martin is now a promoter and she had an event this past weekend, uh that we were reporting on um.
It was held down in florida.
I can’t remember, i think, might have been fort lauderdale uh, but she’s doing really really well now, uh with her promoting career and uh.
You know hats off to women’s and boxing because i think they’ve come a long way and they deserve the money they’re now making and then yeah.
I’M really happy that uh.
You know i’m i’m looking forward to this amanda serrano and katie taylor, not to mention that the slew of other fights you’ve got lined up this year.
I think women in boxing is really going to bring some excitement back and let’s hope that the heavyweights get unclogged.
I mean you know, i mean i think i think tyson fury will, i think he’ll beat dillian white.
I think u6 is going to beat aj.
I think we’re going to see tyson fury, uh and alexander youssef go toe to toe this year.
I think that’ll sort out the heavy weights.
I think you will see yeah anyway, real quick, no, don’t keep it in mind, keep what are your thoughts and i’m gon na say real, quick.
The thing the thing that i think that would change a lot of things.
These guys need help with their skills.
That’S all i got to say everybody’s going to be the same fight you’re, going to see the same fight, nothing different, maybe a little bit until they get somebody.
That’S going to really help them you’re going to see the same.
Sloppy stuff, the same level.
The skill level seems that, like the skill levels dropped and like i didn’t even know about this on my channel, all the time like new school old school got ta give a change shortcuts man it’s like, like you know what i mean.
It’S like these days, but hey, look at look heavyweight, listen! The heavyweight crown to me is the most coveted trophy in the sports period, i’m bigger than the lombardi trophy bigger than the stanley cup bigger than the i mean.
This is my first opinion by the way, because some people that hockey can say get out of here you already talking about, but i’m from toronto.
We don’t care about the cup because we’re never going to win it anyway.
I was in.
I was in england with dylan white.
This dude got plenty of heart he’s solid.
All he needs is a tightness defensive.
They keep they.
I was with him.
Why don’t you go? Why don’t you go? No, listen! I’M available, i’m available.
No, i’m available these guys.
They got their own people, they love them and and that’s it they’re going down with the ship.
But but in one day they go down with the [ __ ].
But in my day the promoter or manager and say hey.
We got ta straighten this mess out, but see they passed away and the knowledge and everything and the know-how is not with these managers and promoters of the day don king did it.
If you didn’t do the right job, he got rid of you and mark stewart.
If you didn’t dennis rapping for jeffy cooney’s manager, when i was with him, if your job wasn’t right, you could even put you there and got somebody and put somebody with you, but he got that thing changed, and this is what they’re not doing today.
It might be about that ten percent.
We talked about that.
The trainers can get or i don’t know, but they don’t have.
They don’t have the knowledge they need to be in the gym, hitting the bags and see what the boxers go through to make these decisions.
Man, this is crazy.
The same stuff is going to happen.
You’Re going to see the same sloppy stuff and you’re going to see no change, you’re going to see no defense you’re going to see none of this bang you’re going to be seen.
None of that you’re going to be seeing this.
Oh wow, [, Laughter, ], look at this [ __ ].
They call it fencing and all it takes all it takes.
You can teach a boxer whatever you teach him.
If he don’t execute, that’s going to be a problem, the boxer has to be able to execute.
I don’t care how good the trainer is.
You know if they know how to throw that overhand right or this and that if he don’t go out there and do it, nobody wins, but you got ta instill that in him run with him, sometimes chopped wood with him.
There are no reviews yet.
