Oh yeah, hello, there boxing fans around the world thanks for joining us once again here on the Friday night boxing panel, myself, grumpy, Graham and Neil the deal Mike Gore, is a little bit tied up with family issues right now and uh.
Based on what happened last week, what a great uh great uh program we have in luizen joined us and uh, we invited him back.
Hopefully he can fix up his technology issues and join us uh, because he was a great addition to the team.
Last week, anyway, uh, let’s get on with a show there, Neil um upcoming upcoming fights bouts that we want to talk about.
There’S quite a few this weekend.
That’S for sure, absolutely, Graham thanks again for having me out here at tacofite.
com Friday night panel, everybody thanks again for everything the likes the shares descriptions, as we all know, they’ve been going through the roof for all the shows got to.
Thank you.
The fans appreciate it, and here we are so yeah, Graham we’re going to talk about some of the fights that are coming up this weekend, the big ones that I basically you know checked out thought they were.
They were worthy of talking about here in the panel yeah and the first one we’re going to talk about is the ioka and Franco fight, ioka and Franco.
Have you heard anything about that yourself, Graham well, I’ve heard that Franco was six pounds overweight and therefore was stripped of his belt.
So I don’t know, are they going to fight? Are they really going to fight now? Oh yeah, the fight is still won.
Absolutely.
My fight is still on uh, it’s in Japan, as we all know, we talked about it on my show.
It’S uh it’s gon na, be at the uh.
I forget it’s called the OKO uh gymnasium in Japan.
I believe.
Okay, it’s in Tokyo, it’s in Tokyo, Japan they’ve been having a lot of big fights there recently over the last few years.
The Japanese Fighters overall, as we know, Graham, are Dynamite a Dynamite crew of guys, like they really do.
Uh have some guys in their in their country that are, they are world champions and guys that are coming up.
That will be world champions.
I was talking to Mike about that recently and he said something to the effect of they’ve out of one gym.
I think it’s called tenta or 10A or something they’ve had 30 world champions out of that one boxing gym in Japan, so they’re obviously doing something right and they obviously got uh.
You know a really good uh, a bunch of kids that they’re they’re bringing up mentoring and and they’re bringing them up properly because they’re creating world champions they’re in Japan.
Absolutely we’ve said it before uh and a lot of the guys who listen to us around the world know this uh.
You know the – and this has come to light uh with respect to Eddie Hearn, very recently, where the American promoters are calling him out, because, quite frankly, the English just don’t understand.
They are not the only country in the world that has boxing, and Japan is one of these countries that has phenomenal programs and produces phenomenal boxers and and there there are several other nations around the world that we’ve mentioned constantly on talk and fight and uh and They’Re yet they’re ignored uh by predominantly people like Eddie Hearn, who prefers to believe that he knows what’s best for the sport anyway, I don’t want to get on that rant uh, but yeah.
Japan has a great scene and uh Mike core has done a great job of promoting the Japanese Fighters, both male and female, that are coming up and as well as those that are quite famous anyway sorry to interrupt you but uh there.
You go.
Oh, exactly Graham, like I said, uh they’re really they’re really coming to the Forefront over there.
I know that other countries too, like Mexico, has a great program.
Uh some of the European countries are boosting up their program.
Of course, the United States has always been right in the mix and even Canada I understand, is getting a little more funding a little more uh.
I guess recognition or credit, for you know their past and present Fighters, so the fight game looks really really good.
Overall, I’m really I’m really happy about it and uh there’s no shortage of fights, as you know, Graham so it’s been, it’s been a really good year so far and it’s going to get better as we all know.
So we’ll talk a little more about the the Franco ioka fight, it’s uh Saturday June 24th, yeah seven it’ll be uh, seven a.
m, Eastern Standard Time because of the Japan, because it’s in Japan, uh, 12 p.
m, British standard time and uh 8 P.
M in in Japan.
I guess Japan’s Standard time they call it GST.
I guess so that’s going to be the ring.
Locks are going to be 9 A.
M.
Here you know what I mean so I’ll have a little pre and then uh so and so on.
The fights will take place again at the OTA City General gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan.
So it’s going to be great on the undercard, we’ll just talk a little bit about the undercard here for a bit there’s some great fights on the undercard, really good fights, uh right off the Hop the first fight under the undercard, the uh, the uh.
What would you call that the pre-undercurrent type of thing is uh, a guy that I’ve been looking at a little bit uh? And I really liked him Mike talked about them.
I’M sure you guys know about them.
Musashi Mori and he’s taking on takuna want to be in a 12 round Junior lightweight about, and these guys are going to start throwing it down.
They’Re.
Definitely uh.
Like I say these are not.
These are well-schooled Fighters.
You know what I mean, so the card looks really really good.
Uh, there’s there’s another fight.
There there’s a fight at the very bottom that intrigues me, because we always like the amateurs, a gram notice, how we kind of find these guys or whatever follow the next thing.
You know, they’re fighting for a world champion, it’s a talkingfight.
com! That’S what we do here.
We find the uh, the needle in the haystack.
If you know what I mean, but there’s a kid there.
His name is Tega Tama ige and he’s fighting a guy named fuma Aki awasaki right in a four-rounder.
So these guys are up-and-comers and I understand that uh.
They they could they could you know they have some potential these, these two kids, so their their records are very small.
I believe they’re like three in one or two and oh and one and oh and stuff like that, but take a look at those guys.
So right from the start, you’re gon na have a lot of really good fights on that card.
You know what I mean right, yep, so moving on from that fight, the other fight that I was I I actually.
These are the three fights that I put on my show on Monday, which is pretty interesting.
We talked about them, the ones that I really liked, and after talking to uh Mikey about it, we we all agree.
These are the three big fights so we’re gon na continue with the uh berlanga right, berlanga versus Quigley, fight, right yep, so berlanga is an interesting individual, uh amazing fighter he’s got all the tools in his box he’s recently signed to Eddie Hearn.
This is his first match match uh matchroom fight.
He signed a multi-deal with uh with Eddie yeah.
He was pursued by Oscar and uh May weather.
Okay, so Eddie gave him the uh.
I guess the best deal for him whatever.
That may be.
That’S up to those guys in their Camp yeah, but uh, he’s gon na he’s got a big fight and it’s at the mecca, Madison Square, Gardens and uh.
Whenever you fight there in the Hulu room, like it’s just crazy, you know what I mean like everybody wants to be in the mecca right, Graham yep.
You know it yep, that’s where that’s that’s, where all the magic happens, type of thing.
So These Guys, these guys fight their whole lives from children right up to that day, they actually get to Madison Square Gardens.
So it’s kind of one of those.
I guess it’s the The Bucket List thing for Fighters, it’s on their bucket list, one fighting, [, Music, ] yeah.
So we’ll talk a little bit about uh uh berlanga, he’s uh.
They call him the chosen one he’s a number four WBO and ibf and number six with the WBA uh he’s ranked really up there.
He’S he’s got a lot of skill.
I believe he’s undefeated right now, Graham, is he not 20-0 or something of that? But I don’t have those numbers but uh uh he’s 20-0.
We talked about it on Monday, guys check them out.
If you want uh he’s, you know, Quigley’s no slouch he’s from Ireland.
You know how the Irish are Graham we’re Scottish they’re Irish.
We call them leprechauns.
They call a skirt wearing whatever they call us it’s been going on, since I was a kid because all my friends are Irish and I’m a Scotsman, so you know how it is.
Graham, I always tell them just go back to the bar.
I said I tell him so anyways the the the fight looks really good.
It’S a big fight, Eddie Hearns, doing it again, uh he’s uh he’s really bringing in a lot of big Fighters into a stable um he’s right at the top of the list.
When it comes to promoters now and uh, I’m sure you know, Oscar and and Floyd and all these other promotional companies are uh, are wondering how he’s Landing all these guys and they’re not Landing them.
If you know what I mean, I don’t know what he’s doing, but congratulations on uh on Landing burlanga, because he’s he’s a really really good guy to have in your stable, so fight’s going to be Saturday December uh December Saturday, June 24th, uh, 8 P.
M.
All right! Uh, that’s Eastern Standard Time, 1 a.
m.
Uh British standard time, uh Main Event ring locks are going to be 11 p.
m and the card will be live on the Zone.
One of my favorites to Zone I love watching fights on the zone.
They just seem to do it professional they never have any bleeps or blenders in their uh.
How do I say in their in their uh broadcast? If you know what I mean like there’s, never any freezing or anything of that sort.
So the zone is always a great one if you guys want to get a nightly subscription or a monthly check it out or it’s all online for you and that’ll be Global, Graham over 200 countries the zone is throwing that out 200 countries.
So it’s all over.
The world uh again at the Hulu Madison Square Gardens main card is set to go again underway.
Around 8 pm ring locks scheduled for 11 p.
m.
So there’s a lot of stuff going on there.
We could be here forever and ever talking about.
You know what those guys are planning what they’ve been doing what’s going on, but the undercard of that me and Mike were talking about this undercard and it is really stacked like this isn’t really stacked a fight cram like the whole card is stacked.
Have did you look at any of the undercard fights? Is this? Is this the kawanaki uh fight as well? It’S in there yeah? Yes, yes, sir Adam kawanaki or kalawanaki yeah yeah he’s a he’s, a big boy, 200 years pounds yeah, he’s undefeated.
I believe and he’s got 15 Knockouts.
I know that so he can definitely throw the punches when he feels the leather heavy um.
Definitely he’s he’s one of the guys on there.
So we’ll go over a bunch of them here.
Okay, go ahead! Uh we got um.
Let’S see here, let’s make sure we’re all in here, okay.
So it’s going to start off with a guy named afasio Falcone versus Pedro Vicente uh.
It’S a lightweight Division and uh, basically they’re gon na start the night off.
Then it’s uh, six rounder super welterweight competition.
Pablo Valdez versus uh, it is German, not Damon, durman Fernandez right in the welterweight 154 division.
That’S going to be followed by the heavyweight uh fight, which is actually no, maybe that’s the other one gram on the Adam is it’s Khalil, Cole, Cole, Coe the heavyweight fight on the berlanga undercard, and apparently I did talk to Mike about that.
He had a really big knockout in his last uh Mike said literally, he was knocked out of the week.
Go back and check out Co and uh check out that knockout he’s uh they’re like 176 light heavyweight but they’re all going to end up having a fight better, be off anyway.
So I don’t think they’re they’re going to have a lot of Hope.
Archer is my boy from Canada: you know how it works, so uh he’s fighting actually a Canadian Graham another guy that I kind of been watching and liking, and his name is Benitez bizla, bisla, b-i-s-l-a and he’s from British Columbia.
Canada wow well he’s fighting Co right here in the Mecca, so we’ll have to keep our eyes on Mr uh bisla a little more right, cool uh now this is this – is a really big fight.
Um I’ve been hearing through the grapevine a little bit about this guy he’s a Puerto Rican.
Kid and uh apparently he’s a prodigy he’s kind of like Lopez Taya, Firma Lopez like he is the up-and-comer Superstar Lookout here he comes and I’m really looking forward to seeing him live.
You know finally, because he’s only had three fights or something I mean, but I’ve never actually seen him on uh live, you know what I mean and his name is yankiel Rivera.
Remember this name: people yankiel Rivera, okay and he’s in the flyweight division.
Like he’s.
Like 111 pounds – and this kid is apparently and went up from what I’ve from my sources look out this, this could be a big big deal, this kid so and he’s fighting a really good fighter right off.
The Hop he’s only in that Christian Robles and Robles is no slouch he’s undefeated as well, and he’s got Knockouts to boot as well, Graham so in his fourth fight he’s fighting a guy, that’s actually moving up the ranks quickly and and undefeated himself, and a very Good fighter in Robles, but apparently this Yankee Rivera kid is is the next is the next one.
Apparently he’s he’s supposed to be something else, so definitely look out for him um.
I definitely will be – and let’s just hope he’s from it says – he’s from from TOA Alta Puerto Rico so and he’s 3-0 right.
So that’s that we got a lightweight competition after that we all know uh Monty Rashad, Monty he’s a he’s.
A guy we’ve talked about, Mike’s talked about him as well as Mike’s also talked about the his opponent that night it’s going to be Dakota, linger or linger.
So we’ve talked about him and that’s followed by that big heavyweight fight.
Yes, there is another one.
Graham, it’s Adam konacki, right, 250 pounder and he’s fighting and he’s not fighting a slouch.
You know and Joe kusanamo kusanamo out of Virginia apparently uh kawanakis out of Brooklyn New York and uh, the other guy’s out of Virginia so yeah uh they’re, both they’re on the radar like this could be a.
This could be a a big deal but uh because they’re both they’re, both big Heavy Hitters, right, yeah and then uh, obviously going to be the main event.
Super middleweight title, uh right, Edgar bar longer Jason Quigley from Ireland.
So I’m Scottish, so you get! I guess you can figure out who I’m hoping wins.
It’S gon na be a great fight that one that one for sure like I’ll, be I’ll, be on the I’ll be watching that live like a thousand percent.
You know, and I really want to see how berlonga is gon na he’s – he’s he’s an amazing amazing fighter.
You know what I mean, but changing promoters.
There’S you know how it works.
Graham, it’s kind of like kind of ruffling, the feathers a bit.
I guess you know: maybe they decided we don’t know, but he maybe changes cut man.
Maybe maybe there’s just little things that don’t keep the flow right.
You know they got these guys, it’s all about consistency and attrition and flow.
So if you put them off their diet so to speak, sometimes that backfires, you know what I mean and there’s a lot of pressure on berlonga because he signed the big deal right and he knows, there’s big fights and if he doesn’t come out in spectacular fashion Against Quigley, then I have a feeling he’s going to come out with his A-game, because he’s he’s looking he’s looking he’s not looking past quickly.
I know that he’s not like that he’s gon na, but he’s gon na he’s gon na really bring it to the house to make sure that that deal that he’s made is going to go through well.
Okay, I think more is at stake for Quigley, quite frankly, because although berlanga is undefeated, Quigley’s he’s no slouch, as you say, I think he’s 22-2.
Something like that.
So um he’s got the experience uh in his back pocket, so uh yeah, that’s gon na be a great fight.
It really is absolutely guys, like I say, check it out.
Uh talkingfight.
com we’ll have a bunch of stuff up pre, you know pre-fight stuff, maybe some older fights, maybe we’ll put up of burlanga just to give people a little little sniff of what he’s all about who he’s dealt with.
You know we’ll see what the pro what the producers decide that’s up to them.
I don’t know it’s up to you guys.
I just I’m just a host all right so anyways John from that big, big monstergram, we’re going to talk about another fight here, obviously, and uh that’s going to be the same night on the 24th.
They all on Saturday night this week, hey Grandma, it’s a big night in in the boxing world, and I love Saturday night boxing.
It’S just like it’s like Saturday night hockey.
You know yeah exactly it’s what we live for.
So the next fight we’re talking about – and this is actually after talking with uh knuckle up Mikey or about this in his opinion, uh about it.
I I I love the fight and Mike was in the same same category.
He really liked it guys uh he loved this fight and that’s going to be the adames adamis versus J-Rock Williams fight.
You know what I mean Graham, have you heard anything about this big monster fight, um, I’ve been I’ve, been reading, bits and pieces uh for the new show and uh.
You know broadcasting bits and pieces.
I haven’t followed their careers, but just simply mentioning where they’re coming from and where they’re heading uh.
But I I can’t I couldn’t tell you who would be the if I were a betting man.
I wouldn’t know who to bet for on that.
One yay nah yeah.
No, so so let me, let me know who it is.
What do you got? Yeah? Absolutely all right.
This is what I got.
This is what I figured out.
This is what I’m feeling all right go for it.
This is um.
This is a he’s, a hard hitting a dummies.
This guy, this guy can hit he he he’s got.
Some he’s got some oomph in his in his punches.
Graham this guy’s.
This guy’s got some move so and J-Rock, of course, was a past Champion.
So we’re talking the big boys, this is actually a bigger fight than I thought.
I didn’t really look too far into it.
I did, but then I’m looking more into it, and it actually is a very very it’s it’s a con.
It’S it’s.
Both those guys need to win this fight.
Put it that way.
It’S not like one guy’s gon na beat up on the other guy.
This is going to be a real, close fight.
I I guarantee it so it’s um adame’s is the intern Champion middleweight WBC and he’s fighting the uh former unified Champion Julian J Rock Williams.
So he was a unified champion before so.
You know it’s on Showtime, it’s gon na be a 12 rounder.
It’S uh June 24th Saturday, the 24th as well from the armory in Minneapolis Minnesota they’re, having a lot of a lot of good events there in uh in the Armory.
As we know lately and that’s uh, that’s brought to you by Premier Boxing right, PVC right.
So PBC love PVCs.
You know, I love all their fights, they’re they’re right in there.
You know what I mean: they bring the big boys to the plate so well.
They they especially made the headlines uh today when they uh signed Canelo to a to a three-fight deal uh stolen, basically for matchroom there you go.
I was waiting for you to say that I thought we’d get into that a little later, but you just blew it up.
That’S! Okay! All right! That’S all right! Hey Lou! How you doing we love you grumpy, Graham Rogers, because I couldn’t get on in Safari and other things for my email and I’ve been given to four managers now and they don’t know what they’re doing and then they said.
Let me look at your computer.
Go into your phone and do this is anyways.
I wish Tim was here because I wanted to mention the fighter that I remember what I wanted to mention, which was Gypsy Joe Harris.
Who was a guy who a Philadelphia fighter? Who, who was Father’s whole career blind on one eye? And then they got a new commissioner and because he wouldn’t pay certain fees to certain underwear people.
They decided to pull his license.
Wow so that that uh – and the other thing I was going to mention is my book – is supposed to be coming out in the next couple weeks and uh boxing’s greatest controversy.
So but yes, I’ve been following um uh TF go to settings and select the right camera.
I don’t know why they want me to do that.
Put me where, Graham is okay.
That’S our private chat, Luke, the other chat’s on the other side, brother.
Oh, okay, no problem! I don’t know there, you go what have I done? Nothing all right.
So, let’s talk about.
Let’S go Lou, let’s get rolling, you’re good, all right! Let’S get! Let’S get past your technology issues, let’s talk boxing yeah! Okay, you see me.
I can’t see me yeah.
I see you you’re on just fine you’re.
Okay, so we’re talking about Adam is adamus in the Armory right yeah, all right.
So, Graham I’m just going to go into this Loop if you can just uh.
Let me finish this a little bit first, so uh! This is a bigger fight than I thought guys.
Uh, like I said, unified, pass champion and uh and and the intern Champion right now, so things are looking really good there.
If you ask me it’s a it’s, a bigger fight than I thought, and the undercard of the fight is huge, like really huge.
So I’m thinking you know these promoters are putting together fights fight cards, so to speak.
Where not only do they have a main event, but their co-main events are actually at times could be actual main events as well, but they’re they’re really bringing the cards kind of to the people with uh with a number of skilled, very skilled boxers.
So I’m really happy with the promoters.
That’S for sure on that level, so the one guy uh that again we were talking it’s going to be live on Showtime Saturday night right, uh, we’re gon na talk about there’s top top guys there Lubin! You know, I’m sure you know about Lubin uh uh right, he’s he’s been around he’s he’s big time and also the other big guy is uh.
Fernando Martinez fly with you know Fernando Martinez, right, oh yeah.
I think they call him.
Please lubin’s an interesting guy because he took a beating from Fundora and then Fedora lost.
He got crunched yeah and then Fedora the guy to beat from Dora just got knocked up by Tim, Zoo, Ocampo, that’s correct! So that’s funny how that came.
Full circle aylu! It is because people assume in boxing they’ve always assumed fighter a beat fighter, B and C so fighter C, you know, could be this guy and it never works out that way.
It’S always different, and but but um was it her.
Someone today made uh bam Rodriguez.
Well, I think, is the most exciting fighter against Sunny Edwards coming up.
Yes, I know about that.
Yes, I’ve heard about that Luke yeah, great fight, well, sunny sunny Edwards is a matchroom fighter, so I guess it’s uh the pressure’s on Eddie Hearn.
Now, to put some fights together, that makes sense.
Yeah everything I see on the internet about Eddie Hearn is is um.
He doesn’t know how boxing Works in North America and the interesting thing is uh.
When I interviewed Russell Peltz last Sunday, he said I asked him all that when he heard and Don King and he said well, I was raised that if you have nothing constructive or good to say about a person, then you’re better off, not saying anything, especially if I choose not to comment on them and uh Russell told me that he learned that if you go to another guy’s card, so if I go to an Al Haymon card or an Eddie Hearn card or whoever in the states and I’m a promoter, I don’t go Into the dressing rooms and talk to their Fighters right, Eddie Hearn does that he’ll go to a top ranked card or a PBC card.
You know, or or Golden Boy and he’ll go into the dress room and make pictures to other Fighters.
You don’t do that in boxing John Deere.
That’S called getting your legs broken yeah.
What is he thinking? And but he does that on a regular basis and Russell said his father never did that.
No father was a gentleman, but he said Eddie Eddie doesn’t care.
He just goes in, I know you’re fighting for this guy I’ll double it or triple it, and you know you’re not supposed to do that.
No, that’s called Bad Business, yes, you’re right, cutting other people’s grass, but uh I mean Oscar De La Hoya and uh Ellerbe and uh.
I think even Heyman had a lot of things to say about this uh Canelo uh signing.
So, what’s your take on that Lou with this Canelo thing? Well, I I mean Canal is big enough that you know I remember Ali saying I’m not affected by promoters or sanctioning bodies, I’m bigger than the sport.
I do what I want and I think canado is in that position now.
I think he doesn’t doesn’t matter who he signs with or who he’s with uh.
He can do what he wants.
He’S got the money and the power and he’s exercising that.
I think he’ll continue to do this revolving uh promoters in the sport, because he he’s just able to you know promoters want to sign you to a long-term contract and Fighters are smarter, just to do a one fight contract and then see what happens well, that Eddie Hearn said that uh he should have gone up against David Morrell and I guess or Dave benavidez quite frankly, and to not do that must have been re.
The reason why he wanted to go over to PVC, I’m not so sure whether it’s because he needed to be matched he’s getting old, yeah he’s out of he’s out over 50 wins already yeah uh.
But you know at the end of the day I think uh there must be some, I’m not gon na, say political.
You know he’s getting 100 million dollars for these three fights, so it’s not chump change, but he walked.
He walked away from the zone for good reason.
Well, let me ask you guys something.
Do you do you think I don’t know you think David benavidez or David Morrell could beat him.
I think they’re live ciders, they’re, good great Fighters, uh! Well, sir tilt your camera down, there Tim hey guys, I was trying to get home for like 15 minutes.
I had the laptop I had the laptop.
I just came in the door about 20 minutes ago.
Good glad you can join us.
Sorry guys how you doing.
No problem we’re doing well.
Thank you.
I hope you’re well.
Over there Tim yeah everything good.
I mean the third I’m 237 pounds.
Look at my face.
Look at my face.
It’S thinner right! That is, that is right anyway, once you’ve dropped that name by big Tim.
Seeing he’s here – oh yeah, the name I was trying to remember last week to tell you – was Gypsy Joe Harris Gypsy, Joe yeah Gypsy Joe yep thought his whole career blind in one eye and then, when the new commissioner McCall came in, he didn’t pay off the Right people Gypsy, so they pulled his license.
All of a sudden, I’m good friends with McCall too.
They pulled his license yeah.
He would party at night and fight the next day right fight like a tornado.
I’Ve never seen him fight.
I’Ve never seen him fight.
I would love to see him fight.
Well, I I have.
I have to tell you that when I was doing uh um some research last night into this Mexican girl who died here two three years ago, Jeanette Zachary wow, 18 years old, died in a fight in Montreal for Yvonne Michelle.
Oh, I think I remember that I think I remember that he wasn’t really a fighter.
She was an 18 year old with no amateur pedigree.
Nothing, so she fought four five times previously been lost four knocked out three times, but not cold for over half an hour.
Less than two months before wow came into this fight is just every Mexican fighter brought up by her husband, including her lost one other loss by knockout.
And so I I looked up going back over almost 100 years, and so many cases like this, where a fighter dies a lot so many times it’s not a real fighter.
It’S a wannabe! It’S someone coming from another Sport with no amateur background.
No boxing background I’ll.
Just get into the ring what can happen and they end up dying, and so, when I spoke to some in Montreal, it’s not regulated by an athletic commission, it’s directly regulated by the alcohol and gaming commission, and so they did they said well.
We did a full medical background, checkup and a full medical checkup when she got here – and I just said – that’s complete BS, because I worked for Lennox Lewis.
I’Ve been in those checkups, they last in three minutes, and I could name you 10 Fighters now over the past 70 years, who fought blind their whole career after undergoing medical checkups before each fight, the medical checkup is garbage.
You know, that’s not everywhere.
That’S not everywhere, though you’re right, it isn’t everywhere, but it is in a lot of places, and so that’s why these uh fatalities happen, and they said they were going to do a blue, ribbon commission or inquiry into her, and when I got interviewed that night, I Said no, they won’t not.
Montreal Montreal’s in Quebec is run.
It’S there’s, no rules.
That’S why it’s the boxing capital of Canada.
It’S been that way.
Since the 1920s.
You can put a fight on anywhere, you pay off the right people, and you just you.
You just put a fight on and it doesn’t matter if the fighter is missing a leg or blind to one eye or or has brain damage.
In fact, Jeanette Zakaria uh had a medical document which I found that said she suffered brain damage before this fight and a neurosurgeon in Mexico said you should never step in the ring again.
If you don’t have surgery, you’ll be dead, soon, anyways and yet the guy in Montreal said the Matchmaker for Yvonne.
Michelle said I didn’t have access to her other fights, and I said I did.
I just went on YouTube and typed in her name.
How can you not have access so blue? I got some.
I got something to add to this.
There uh Graham uh grumpy, Graham there and Mr Tim Witherspoon two times baby, you better your wife, better, not let you out of the house, brother, hey, anyways, listen, uh, Lou! On that note there.
I I just wanted to mention that um just to set the record straight As far as I know that I’m I’m very good friends with uh the ex-ontario Athletics commissioner, here in Ontario Canada uh, Mr Ken Hayashi Right I’ve been taking a lot of flack.
At the end of his uh Reign, he’s now retired, but he took a lot of flack for um his.
How do I say, uh diligence when it comes to fighter safety.
Now that was his priority number one.
So I’m just gon na set the record straight from what I know is there were a lot of promoters and Fighters that were probably disappointed in his decisions, but it goes right back to what you just said, Lou about Montreal and how they they operate.
Their uh, so-called commission and, and basically it basically boils down to that – it’s fighter safe and sometimes, as we all know, sure Tim has seen it as her career guys.
Some of them just aren’t really able.
They should not be in the ring at that moment because of past injuries or whatever you may call it right so right.
He was very, very strict here in Ontario and he got a lot of grief about it and a lot of a lot of crap for it I’ll tell you that much because I heard it a lot and well I I respected him Lou for that.
You know.
Yeah, I did that.
I I heard it too.
I mean I because when I worked for Lennox, but you know, and and was it 217 Tim Hague Tim you’d be interested to this – there was a fighter out in Edmonton named Tim Hague who died.
Tim was one in four: he was an MMA fighter and when Conor McGregor fought Floyd Mayweather MMA people would say to me.
Well, you have to maybe he’s got a chance and I would say that’s – that’s just stupid.
I’M 62 with a pacemaker, there’s as much chance.
If I got as beating Tyson Fury, it’s just not it’s not possible that a guy with fully made with his amateur pedigree and skills can can lose to a guy who’s, not a professional fighter.
You can’t pick that up in a month or six weeks or eight weeks to do that and they said well he’s a striker yeah.
He grabs a guy by the throat and punches him once or twice.
That’S not boxing, and so Tim hey on that note, guys I’ll tell you, I’m not gon na we’ve, I’ve always considered and and Mr Hayashi had the same thought we both had the same thought.
I like MMA for certain reasons but honestly to us.
It’S a glorified street fight.
That’S all it is.
I call it violence porn.
There you go and well they do they do.
They do have skills um, um um, like um, martial arts skills too.
That’S the that’s the thing they do have something that I can’t really do unless they teach me so, as Tim knows, is an art form, and so Tim hag have been knocked conscious in an MMA fight.
Where he’s out for over half an hour.
He begs that’s not good yeah melabolic who’s, the promoter in Edmonton, you got ta.
Let me fight on this card and I’m thinking what is this a communist country I want to play in the NBA you’re? Not you can’t.
You’Re short, you can’t play basketball, but it’s Canada.
Everyone can play professional sports, it’s not the way it works in boxing, and so this guy Tim hakeets and he fights a former football player and when he gets knocked down the first time he gets up.
He can’t get his balance, but he can’t focus his eyes.
His eyes are swimming in its head.
At that point the referee should step in and say you’re done, he doesn’t and the reason this happens in Canada.
We’Ve had three or four deaths.
Now, since then, and the reason it doesn’t, we have so few fight cards in Canada that referees and Riverside doctors aren’t experienced with these situations as much as they are in England and the United States, where they know immediately what to do and we’ve all seen fights Where you see the fight’s over the guy’s done and the referee goes come on, go ahead and you’re going to get him killed and it’s it’s it’s it’s it’s terrible! It’S sad! Yeah! It shouldn’t happen and and with Jeanette Zachary it’s it was preventable.
They could have said, listen they.
The person I spoke to at the Montreal alcohol gaming board.
They said.
Well, we even had our medical records translated and I didn’t mention that she spoke to neurologist.
I said right because they lied, because this guy, who I worked with her husband, had brought people up here when I worked for Lennox Lewis, a global Legacy boxing his job is to supply Warm Bodies to be beaten, and I said this isn’t a practice that was Invented here it’s been going on for a couple hundred years, but you have to do due diligence.
You know at when I worked for Linux, a guy called to be on one of her cards.
He said I’m I I work for Floyd Mayweather.
He signed me.
I’M eight and one, and I called someone I knew what Mayweather’s group and I said: uh he doesn’t work for us.
He has gym Privileges and I asked people I knew there and he had a record of like two and three.
So you got to do due.
Diligence, you got to really work around know: people, officials, the officials and all that is long overdue, and I’m I’m far as like trying to make everything uh proper, get everything in order.
They used to take money and people knew they took money from promoters.
Some of that some of the officials um it’s getting a lot.
It was a lot better since the time you know since I’ve been fighting, I haven’t been really.
You know applying myself to find out uh.
If it’s is it getting better, but it is, is a better like, like you know, official teams, but officials, all right.
Everybody before I knew guys was taking money, certain guys was taking money and it seems to be getting better or I haven’t really been involved in trying to search and find to see if stuff like that is really going up.
You know what I mean, but you could pay a judge up where you could pay a a doctor off where you could pay this or not.
It’S more to me it’s more stricter today in in America um, but that it probably is probably here and there you probably you can find somebody doing that.
But when I was boxing it was like you know: oh, he did.
He took money from so and so, but now I don’t think you don’t hear that much or I’m not on television uh trying to figure it out.
You know what I’m saying you know figure out.
I wonder if this guy getting paying this official off of that all, but I know I knew about it back then, but it looks like things are getting better things are getting better now seems like to me they’re getting better because of Mike Perez and Abdu Magnus Shalomov, because of that fight, okay took a beating and suffered severe brain damage and was paralyzed okay and after the fight in New York and even after the third or fourth round Roy Jones Jr said this is the kind of fight where people lose their lives.
He’S saying to his corner, I can’t feel the left side of my face.
My face is not wow.
I can’t see out of my left eye and John David Jackson, who’s a great guy, no one, the referee, Benji esterfest Jr and I’m not impressed with things he asked of his senior mind you as well, but he he could have gone over and asked him.
He didn’t doctors, don’t need permission to go into a corner and look at a fighter and they didn’t and when the fight was over, the neurosurgeon at ringside looked at him and said you’re fine and when he got to the dressing room, a doctor.
Who was there a little private doctor had been hired by another fighter? Looked at him and said you have a brain Bleak get to the hospital, so they called ringside and they said no ambulance is available.
That was a lie, so he gets to the hospital they open them up right away.
They do a training ought to be.
His brain is a lot.
He he almost dies.
They tell his wife he’s not going to make he’s paralyzed on on his left side.
He can’t speak.
This is six seven years ago only recently he’s regained some of his speech and is able to do things and so the his family sued, the doctors and the doctors.
Lawyers argued with the lawyers for the family and then the doctors lawyers quit because they kept saying to the doctors at ringside.
You committed a crime.
You looked at a man who had a brain bleed.
You were a neurosurgeon.
You looked at him for less than 15 seconds.
It’S on tape, you, the best thing you can do is say I made a mistake: take the penalty pay the money, I’m not going to do it.
And finally, after going through a team of lawyers, he couldn’t get a lawyer, these doctors.
Until finally, they got a lawyer who said: listen, the other guys, lorries, you spoke to were correct, you’re criminally liable.
Here it’s on tape.
You looked at him for 15 seconds, while you were talking to somebody and said you’re, fine, you can go and he wasn’t and a doctor who’s, not even a neurosurgeon.
Just a regular GP looked at him in the dressing room and said you have a brain bleed.
Yet now, and so he settled, and so the insurance paid him something like 30 or 40 million.
The other thing was to klitschko’s kept asking for money to help pay for it because they promoted it, and yet uh people were upset they’re saying if you had paid a thousand dollars more in insurance, he would have been covered for the rest of his life, but Because you wanted to pay less, he isn’t covered, he was only covered for a week so, and it was one of those things when I watched the fight uh.
He he fought an American heavyweight months before uh, a real Jamil McLean, oh Jamil, Jamil yeah and Jamil caught him with us, with a sucker punch, uh a straight right hand, a lead right hand.
I didn’t see it coming and as as custom model used to say and Angela Dundee, you know the Sucker Punch.
As you know, Tim you throw a lead right hand, you’re, saying to the guy, I’m telegraphing it and you can’t stop it because you don’t have the skills and he was overmatched with Mike Perez, who had over 400 amateur fights and he took a beating and it Should have been stopped and it wasn’t and Roy Jones Jr and the boxing stage and the boxing stage in New York Philly even uh DC you loose and I was around the officials.
I know them.
I hug give him a hug and talk to him when I go to the fights they don’t play.
There’S States where there’s so much.
They allow so much um things, maybe because they’d be taking money, maybe because they don’t have the experience, but New York, Philly Atlantic City.
You can’t go in it, they do not play they don’t play.
They get everything right.
If you not have your blood pressure is almost one off, they won’t.
Let you fight stuff like that, so we may be talking about States, that’s growing in boxing or I don’t know you you tell me, but in those states that I was in they don’t play.
No they if they know if they think he’s, got some kind of raggedy you out of there.
I’M telling you so I know Tim.
I got a question for Tim here Tim now.
Yes, when you were boxing in your career, you boxed in many different states.
I’M sure correct yeah.
Now, every time you went to get clearance from the doctor in those States, was it always the same doctor in that state giving you clearance, you know they had their own doctors well, yeah each each state doctor’s the same one doctor or was it different? Does Nevada have five doctors, or just one guy? That makes it? Oh, I’m sure they got a team.
I never really thought about that, but I’m sure they got a team.
They’Re they’re in Vegas come on man Las Vegas.
Where you go gamble, they got bite the biggest fights over there.
You should I’m sure they up to up to date right so yeah they up to date in Las Vegas um.
When you know they used to I it’s cop, not common sense.
What I’m saying is just thinking about you know: people can get back in the day.
You can give them like a couple of thousand in there vote in your favor or they’ll help you or this, and that I don’t really know what’s going on now, because um I haven’t been really venturing in that that area, trying to figure that out.
There’S other things to do, but I don’t know what it is.
You know talking to a judge, giving somebody a talk to a referee.
I don’t.
I don’t really hear too much of that anymore.
Even even the New York boxing commission, for instance in New York boxing commission they’re, pretty tough too do they have one doctor that that’s in Madison Square.
Oh, I see what you’re saying I see what you’re saying right right.
They have multiple doctors, yeah yeah.
I think so I think so ophthalmologists they have neurosurgeons, they have all sorts of doctors.
Of course they get different doctors for different ailments, but there’s always here in Ontario.
I know for a fact there was a doctor.
I cannot name him, but he was around several plate, seen uh doing the clearance medical clearances for the Ontario Athletics commission for many many years, but the Ontario Athletics commission has outdated that the amount of wraps you can use in your hands.
The rule was decided in the 1920s, it hasn’t been updated and um.
When I worked for Linux, I was just doing publicity, that’s it interviewing Fighters and opponents and getting the fights out to newspapers, TV and radio, and yet I actually would call me this has been off topic and yell at me.
How can you put this fight on and that’s I have nothing to do with the booking, a fight, sir.
I just do it, that’s it.
You have to call uh uh Lennox, and aside from that, what do you gain by calling someone up and the minute they answer your phone and start yelling and swearing at it? It’S not going to make me want to help you much is it you know so, but what I was going to say about uh what what Tim said.
Um remember the fight between Antonio margarita, don’t Shane Mosley.
I think that was in New York and I spoke to another person.
Tim would know: nazim Richardson, a great late, great museum you’re, not seeing that same yeah, and he was a trainer.
He trained Bernard Hopkins and several others.
Yes, that was his master.
Tucker Weedle had himself remember this.
I remember nazim goes in and do margaritas restroom and he said what’s going on and Margarita’s gloves were all done up and had the hand wraps on, and the commissioner signed off and one of the Commissioners, Mr commissioner, is leaving because he grabs him and his arms Is where you’re going he says, I’m leaving you’re not leaving you’re going to get arrested.
Now, I’m calling the police.
What are you talking about? You can’t sign off on it, because I have to be here until the law to see him get wrapped.
Well, it was fine that doesn’t matter what you say I have to be here.
That’S in the contract.
That’S a piece.
Give me 10 seconds.
Give me 10 seconds real, quick, that’s what we did with Larry Holmes: real quick um, my trainer deliberately slim Robinson who’s.
Real smart deliberately waited till they taped, Larry hands, Larry Larry holmesan, now Larry Holmes people send their people over when I was going to fight and they watch this and slim stayed deliberately stayed as a power play to get Larry Holmes upset.
So when that, when slim went over to the dresser and said hey your your hands are rat, you got ta, I didn’t see it, take them off.
So Larry’s like no! No! No! No! No! Don’T you can’t take them off, so slim call them.
You got to take them off right.
Wasn’T here, he deliberately did that slim and smart, don’t take them off, really rap cut them up.
Marry Holmes are so mad.
He said she said it’s slim it’s as long as you black you better, not never speak to me again, that’s what he said and messed his head up and he couldn’t imagine before the fight.
There’S a lot of things you could do to to to to win a fight, true story about the hand, wrapping yeah, he deliberately waiting and then went over and said hey.
I wasn’t here huh, so what happens yeah so what so so? What happens here is? Okay, I’m sorry, he says you got ta, you got ta unwrap the gloves, don’t apologize, you got ta unwrap the gloves.
Take the wraps off and margaritas trainer uh um, because um have tier Tapatio, said your guy’s gon na lose tonight and and nazim said he may very well lose, but not because of a mistake.
I made take the raps off and they said no, and they said you know what no fight he takes shamelessly he leaves the hotel and he goes.
He leaves the arena goes to the hotel supposed to be on in five minutes.
Hbo can’t find him something said they went to the hotel HBO Carlson.
What’S going on, nazim explains that they go into Javier capital and margarito.
Both guys are promoted by Bob arum and then he says: listen, you take the gloves off and the tape off when the zoom’s here or you don’t fight, and you don’t get your money and we’ll make sure that your Visa is revoking you’re, never enter in the United States again, and so when they thicken the wraps off, they fight these hard plastic, almost metal, uh, um protectors, Knuckles, whoa those fall out and when they retake the hands, of course, you go in and mostly beats them to a pole and then uh uh.
You got years before when he was fighting him.
He said no one’s ever hit me like that.
Like Manny Pac yeah, no one’s ever hit me that hard and he started to get knocked out on a regular basis.
He’D been cheating is so clear, but I mentioned this to Angelo Dundee and he said they wrapped differently in Mexico and putting protectors on the knuckles.
That’S common in Mexico and if you’re, not diligent, you’re going to get yourself or killed and the scene was so smart.
He saved mostly his life, but he caught and mostly or Margarita was banned firmly from ever.
Fighting in the states and capital was banned from every training, but they still went on and did it in Mexico.
You know so yeah for Lou.
I had a question for Lou, maybe Tim you, you have an answer for this.
I remember back in the day a little while, when um that Prince, he had that big loss against uh Antonio Pereira, Marco Antonio Pereira, remember yeah, never would have fought [ Music ].
What was Marco Antonio Barrera, Marco Antonio Barrera, was also a feathery 125.
He went up there right so who’s, the guy that he was thinking of fighting in that era, but he didn’t fight him.
For some reason there was something that wasn’t right and they thought they were going to get away with just kind of walking over uh Barrera and then Barrera showed up like it would have been Pacquiao or Morales for the two other big names right: yeah, yeah, yeah.
Okay, but this isn’t I mean this – this has happened before in boxing uh, when Luis Resto there’s a great documentary tragedy in the ring by Billy, Collins and Collins was like a 15 to 100.
Dog Resto was just basically your garden.
Variety opponent had a one very much and his his um trainer went in and removed stuffing from the glove.
So after he moved stuffing, he beat rest still had both eye sockets broken and he died a year later from suicide when he drove his car wow uh into uh, an embankment but but uh.
When the fight was over uh Russell’s, father, Billy or Billy Collins, Jr’s, father yeah, and he didn’t let go and he was like six four fifty he was a big man and then he looks at his trainer who I despise.
I can’t remember his name now.
Unfortunately, I can see his image and, and he knew what was going on and the police got him, and you know he was banned from Boston and the trainer was banned.
Not only was the trainer again, I was an actual Dundee’s history gym when they reopened it and he came up to say hi and Angelo said tell him who cares he’s going to leave here in a pine box so um? He said you almost.
You know you caused the man, his life and, and it is he like a white kid kind of with, like short, blonde hair kind of an up-and-coming kid.
That’S like yeah light, the hell out of by some like Italian guy or something yeah [, Music, ] and the guy had put stuff in his knuckles inside the gloves like metal metal.
No, he didn’t have metal.
What happens is they remove the stuffing? So I was like it’s like he was fighting bare knuckle like with a dragon yeah yeah.
I saw that yeah.
I didn’t even know that existed.
So, oh yeah, that happened with somebody else, a big fight and they died afterwards.
Who was that? I think there was welterweights, wasn’t Perez and Griffith.
They skipped the middle out and put tape on tape on it and stuff, and who was that? I can’t remember I’m getting old, guys, y’all better get me before I get another couple of years.
What was his name or something? Oh yeah? No, not that one, not that one, okay, okay, that had nothing to do with the glove.
It was 100 yeah and Kim because of WBC or whoever was and rated the guy number one and the guy wasn’t really that good a fighter and he just took a beating for the whole fight yeah.
I saw that yeah and – and it was terrible because when he was being taken under the ring throwing cups of urine at him, that’s correct because he couldn’t get up yeah, there’s no crazy.
I know that Ray Mancini was really uh really affected by that fight.
Yeah.
Any history, yes, he was, you don’t want to kill the man.
You just wanted the freedom Lou.
Recently I heard a rumbling.
I don’t know where somebody told me.
Was there a death in boxing somewhere in Taiwan in the last few weeks, yeah there was there was.
I think it was the Philippines.
What was that? All about a fighter just took uh a real beating in the ring and did not survive wow, that’s an unbelievable stuff.
He was yeah.
He was overmatched and um [ Music ].
Before that there was one that they were talking about, I believe on ESPN it was Tim Bradley and a couple guys Bradley showed a clip and said, look at this guy after getting hit and guys wobbling and he’s walking to different corners – and I know Tim.
So I texted him.
I said damn uh, that guy died within an hour of that video and he didn’t know that when they came back from commercial he apologized [, Music ].
We do need some a little tighter rules and regulations.
I guess Tim, I’m not too sure, but I’m just saying maybe Ontario wasn’t so bad when everybody thought we were the bad people trying not to kind of fudge the the situation where we they kept.
It really tight.
If you know what I mean, so they did.
But I got ta, I got ta tell you, though [ Music ] um, I I went with some fighters to get their licenses and they were told you know the person’s, not here and – and the fighter said right I was here today to go.
I had documents from last week.
They said they wanted documents from the same day, and I said that’s ridiculous.
So we went to the doctor, got him the same day got back in an hour and then Mr Hayashi was gone so stuff like that.
