There fight fans once again thanks for joining me.
We’Ve got the scoop joining me tonight.
Bola ray come on bola.
What do you got tonight for me? Hey how you all doing um again.
My name is wally and uh.
This is the scoop.
So thank you for giving me the opportunity to give my perspective as to the world of boxing today and yesterday.
This episode gon na be another one on what i deem complete worries in the professional ranks of boxing and the fight workout.
Today is the fight between shannon briggs and george foreman, nice november 5th 94, george foreman.
After being down on all three scorecards came out with a 10th round knockout of one michael moore, he earned the ibf the wba and the lineal crown um.
The last lineal champion critic, bull, riddick beau – did not want to fight lennox lewis, so he he put the w in the garbage um from there really both to holyfield, who then lost to my both the ibf and the wba upon winning the collection of belts.
The world boxing association, the wba, made tony tucker george foreman’s, mandatory challenge.
George chose to fight to travel to to germany and fight alex schultz instead um because of that decision he was stripped of his wba title um.
In doing so, the fight between alex schultz and george foreman was deemed a controversial win for george, so the ibf made alex schultz, his mandatory a mandatory rematch following that george decided not to alex schultz a second time, citing that he looked on the rankings and he Didn’T see, michael moore, anywhere on the rankings on the on the ibf rankings, which he found to be incredibly unfair, because michael moore was their champion less than the less than a year prior and gave george the opportunity chance to be a world champion.
Once again and he’d like to repay the favor only to find that he wasn’t even in the top ten, he wasn’t anywhere in the rankings.
Not only that evander holyfield and riddick bowe were not in the rankings, so he felt those fights were, would better suit or better satiate his moral compass than going off and giving it giving alex immediate rematch.
That decision cost him the ibf title.
So now you got george without heart, but he’s still the lineal champion because he hasn’t been beaten, actually physically beaten in the ring.
We then move forward to november 22nd 1997.
and he steps into the ring against a young, strong, hungry prospect in shannon the cannon briggs dannon.
This was his 30th or 31st fight and of his 30 past fights, he had one loss 29 of the 29 wins that he had 20.
Six of them went or didn’t make the final belt.
Only four of them made the final bell um or 25 of them.
Sorry and four of them made the final bell: he was a sensational knockout artist, but his record was sort of padded.
By my humble opinion, he fought.
He hadn’t fought anybody.
He hadn’t beaten anybody, uh uh notable to earn that the right to fight for that title.
Um to fight for a world title, so that being said, he moves forward.
The fight starts out um with shannon moving really well.
In the first round, um george was doing george.
He is strong.
He is aggressive.
He steps after you chases you pressure fighter, constant pressure.
Even though from the outside looking in, you think he looks slow, but he happens to land quite a few punches um at a high rate, so until you’re actually standing in front of him.
It’S sort of difficult to actually pass judgment upon the speed with which he actually throws his punches and whatnot.
He the first round, shannon, did very well um to maintain the range kept him at bay with his jab um and won the round, at least on my scorecard.
The second round was a different story.
Um, shannon now was getting tagged at a much higher frequency than uh than originally um in first round, shannon uh or he he stopped moving his feet as much and like i said, george is like an uh, a locomotive with only forward direction.
Movement was able to to punish him.
Um landed quite a few impressive shots um.
This scenario went on for the next three rounds.
At the end of the fifth round, compubox stats had george throwing 177 punches and landing 108 of those punches, whereas shannon threw more punches in three more punches for that matter.
180 punches, but only landed, um 76 punches, so styled margin.
Moving forward, um in the sixth and seventh round, shannon increased his punching um punch output and his movement found a great glass.
I felt that he won the next two rounds, comfortably um, eighth round or sorry in the seventh round.
You had george actually, the sixth and seventh round george actually um slowed down his action.
Uh slowed down his punch output still walking forward but slowed down.
His punch output hit in the seventh round, he only threw 21 and he somebody gave him a shake out from the neck up in the corner.
In the in the at going into the eighth round and big george came back, like big george, does, in the eighth round alone, george threw 67 punches landing 43 of them, whereas shannon threw 36 punches landing 15.
.
This kind of pressure fighting was consistent for the rest of the remainder of the fight.
I gave the wrestler rounds to uh to big george um [, Music ], and i differed on the scoring of round seven and round 11.
But at the conclusion of the fight we both had the exact same uh scores.
So i had george winning this fight 116 to 112, which means that i were to win eight of the 12 rounds, as did harold leader me now.
The three judges that were supposedly at ringside must have been watching a completely different fight, maybe even in a different venue, because at the end of the day their scores were 114.
114.
117.
113.
So that’s nine rounds to three for shin once again for shannon giving shannon the majority win.
There’S nothing shy of shameful and sad.
The audience started to boo at the conclusion of that of that decision.
That was george foreman’s last fight, no, no really an unfitting and our unfitting send-off for such an for an absolute warrior and an incredible ambassador of the sport still regarded as one of the greatest punches of all time of all time.
Um.
