I am sheila stafford the complete voice for the future of women in the global boxing industry as boxers and business women stafford boxing, the making of champions.
Please like share, subscribe and leave a comment.
Today.
We have a pioneer an author promoter creator, ceo of celebrity boxing, everyone please welcome mr damon feldman, hey.
How are you i’m great, i’m so glad to have you on here.
We finally get to meet and we finally get to talk – and i know when we first linked up that when i saw that you had found a white space in the boxing industry.
I knew that everything that you were going to do was just going to take off yeah.
So before we get started, nobody won the free glow-in-the-dark stafford boxing wristband.
So i’m gon na give you the four questions, but you have to put them on youtube and you have to email it.
So the first question is what chair does ah malinga sit on.
The second question is: how did first lady of boxing jackie callan, handle her difficult situations? What was the gold nugget first lady, jackie callan, talked about and who is the stafford boxing club reaching out to type your questions on the youtube comments and send your information to stafford boxing enterprises gmail.
com, and i also encourage to have audience participation.
So, mr feldman, you are the creator and ceo of celebrity boxing.
So what i want to know what we all want to know is: how did you even come up to to do this? Oh this is questions all the time.
Um.
Basically, you know i’m a former undefeated professional fighter, uh boxed, my whole life got injured and out of the ring accident and basically just was thinking what my next move is going to be, and i um i you know i was on a radio show and i Asked the radio dj, i said we got to get you in the rain for celebrity boxing man.
She said i would love to do a match.
I said really i was like, who would it be against and they told me the weatherman of philadelphia and i was like what really so.
I approached that guy and they both agreed and it just went from there to fox, to where i am right now so, who was a part of your first celebrity boxing match that you had yeah john belarus, the weather man from philadelphia, nbc weatherman, and he took On diego from q102 radio, okay and from there the first big one was when i was involved with the uh.
You know descartes productions, uh sandy grossman brought me in and we did.
You know all those fights with uh vanilla, ice to todd, bridges to tanya harding, paula jones, danny bonaducci, william refrigerator perry, uh manupo, all them wow.
So you also had a match on june 11th, who was all a part of that yeah we had blac chyna.
Did our match uh blac chyna took on some internet model, her name was alicia megan, and that was one year from when i did lamar odom versus aaron carter.
So it was a special night in miami.
So how do you go about matching these celebrities when it comes to the boxing? How do you match them up? Well, it all depends on you know who it is and it’s role it’s not.
It’S not easy to get the right people in the rain, because it’s not just for any celebrity.
It’S more.
It’S a niche, i’m a sports entertainment niche, i’m sort of like um.
You know my own.
I have my own brand, where you know give people always one their chance in the ring to step in the ring without getting their head knocked off, and that’s that’s for the celebrities and the other cards and usually a celebrity fight.
We do you know four or five celebrity fights on each card.
Oh okay, so would you say that the thrill comes also are mainly from these celebrities that you pick that have no fight experience at all, even though we know that fighting is different.
Street fighting is different from boxing right right.
Well, you know i’m a fighter, so the bottom line is being around.
You know when i was a kid everybody thought they knew how to fight and until they got punched in the mouth, you know what i mean.
So you know, and the same thing goes with the celebrities say, but they what story boxing is is a platform now it’s a platform where we give people their 16th minute.
If you were a celebrity in 15 minutes, if you always wanted your chance, because we you know, kill it with this press conferences, all the media attention and um yeah, it’s a really cool platform.
Now i know that you had your last event.
It was in florida.
Is that correct? Yes, okay, so is that where most of your events are going to take place? No, i mean miami i’m in philadelphia.
That’S where i’m at right now right outside of philadelphia.
It’S my home hometown, uh atlantic city is our big play.
Showboat in which uh august 27th looks like we’re gon na.
Do a try out for celebrity boxing where we’re gon na see who wants to get on board a ring.
Announcer promo girls ring girls fighters and um, you know referees, you know, give them their chances that give them all the chance to be part of celebrity boxing.
We’Re gon na do a big, try out weekend and uh it’s august 27th, and it should be really cool but uh all you know again getting back to your question.
Atlantic city and miami are real places right now.
Okay, now, who is bitcoin rodney burton? He is a good friend he’s one of the smartest business guys i’ve ever met in my life, um he’s a guy who stepped up when i really needed someone to step up and um.
You know he’s a really good.
Guy he’s a partner in celebrity boxing and we’ve uh we’re doing we’re, making some good waves with him and excited to have him.
He has a team behind him.
I have a team behind me and our team is just incredible gotcha, so you have a film.
Let’S talk about your film that you have what’s going on with that.
Thank you.
I’M excited to talk about it.
Yes, um! Well, it’s basically about my life and career.
I was a former undefeated fighter.
Um, you know got knocked down at you know outside the ring.
You know getting into injury and accident and basically just you know about my life career, my mom was a quadriplegic in a wheelchair.
My dad raised me uh, two african-american fighters raised me actually and it’s really kind of crazy.
I don’t know if me and you ever talked about that, but uh yeah.
So like um, you have a story, that’s probably not too many people have in their life and throwing into brick walls and um.
You know just the learning experience of life.
I know i had it so and i helped hope to push it on to help other people and definitely my children yep okay, so you have the film going on, but i also saw that you have your hand on football.
What’S going on? Well, we’re talking about that uh celebrity football with hollis, thomas former philadelphia, eagle, good friend, um, we’re gon na be um talking about putting that out there uh i’m in the works with all that you know.
So i’m hoping i’m one of those guys who throw 20 things up against the wall and hopefully two stick.
You know so, but i keep pushing you know yeah, you have to keep on pushing.
You can’t stop, and i know i know about that too.
So the journey that you are on, i know that there has been some challenges and there has been some disappointments.
Tell us one of the major situations that you have been in, that you didn’t even think you were going to get through it um.
Well, basically, you know i was, i went on a binge of drinking like you know, basically living a life and just thought that drinking was my way to like have fun and you know get through with things in life, and it really wasn’t because i had to Brick, walls, you know mistakes, i made bad choices and but i haven’t had a drink in six years.
We’Ll never do it again and it made me really understand, because when i did stop drinking, i became successful very successful and you know i had to hit the brick wall.
I did.
You know, spend 13 months in jail, stupid stake of my life.
I look back at it now and i’m like how the hell did i do that.
You know what i mean.
It’S just it’s very heartbreaking, but it’s um.
It’S not something i want to repeat in life, but it’s something i do want to install in everybody’s mind, especially kids, that you can’t screw around in life.
You know, and drinking will definitely be the one way you will go down very fast and hit a brick wall and – and if you don’t you know, i i times i always wished you know, i would listen to my my my dad and you know i try To push on my kids, they’re young, you know they’re 19 and uh 15 and make them understand.
Listen, you’re you’re going to hit a brick wall.
Don’T they just think everything’s handed on the silver platter, because that’s what they think right now and i try to make them understand yeah i’m doing well and i’m i’m here to help you and do it all, but um yeah, i’m all about the people.
The people person money is great, but i’m more of a guy.
Who is, i want to see people win that way and i can help them win.
The great thing about celebrity boxing is, i can help so many people win in here and all the guys on.
My cars, you know, i think they all love me and i love them too.
You know i’d love to see them that they got their chances.
You know, even from all i mean it was down and now he stepped in the ring.
We got that celebrity boxing.
He got back in the spotlight, he got a couple tv shows out of it and to see that guy like come back like the way he did, and you know i was really happy about that.
Now we do have a story to tell and the reason why that i ask these questions is because, as we all know, there are people that are watching and that are going to be watching that are really going through some hard times.
Some struggles – and i ask these questions because i want everybody to know you’re, not the only one going through something sure you know the drinking and doing the drugs.
It’S just a temporary fix.
It’S not gon na fix anything and, like you just said, once you stopped.
That’S when everything started to take off because i never did drugs drinking was the problem.
Yes, so um, so everybody j and you know what there’s some you know what i like about.
You too.
Of course, i’ve been going through some things as well, and some disappointments and with you being on the show today, is really a blessing, and i think how you well, you are a person of character, you are a person of integrity, you are loyal and one of The key things that you said was that you like to help people yes and during these times, and it’s always been going on, but especially during these times, we don’t run into people like you, because you’re you’re, unselfish so when you’re, when you’re in a business deal.
What is one of the major deal breakers where you’ll be like? You know what it doesn’t even matter, how much money is on the table? I’M not even going to be able to go what what’s a deal breaker for you um, that’s a great question! Um! Basically, you know i’m i know i can make it like.
I don’t need someone to throw millions of dollars in front of me and say you’re gon na.
Do it my way you got ta screw these people or do this whatever you got ta do to get there, that’s not the way i did it.
Never did it and never will it’s just i kept moving forward and you know how i was because i even message you like about you know even a boxing gym like and some questions about.
I i find the answers.
You know what i mean.
I don’t need people that think they have all this money and they could buy me because i could never be bought my life ever no matter what and you know i’m out for the people.
I really am like yeah sure i’m out for my career.
I did this in the hardest times the pandemic came out of here and now i’m on top, thank god, and but yeah i mean a deal breaker to me would be is, if you can’t look me in the eye and tell me uh the truth about um.
What you could really do for me or what i could do for you or what could be made out of this business deal.
That’S the deal breaker.
If you can’t look me in the eye that is, you know what i’m with you on that one.
I’M with you on that one and another one too, is not keeping your word.
Yes, if you say you’re going to do something just do it i’d, rather you just tell me no, and you don’t owe me an explanation and then we can just go on about that, but just keep your word.
Okay! No! No! That’S absolutely right! That was one of the things is definitely deal back here too.
Don’T tell me you could do something, then you say it’s gon na be done tomorrow.
You don’t call me tomorrow that doesn’t at least in the right direction it’s over our deal’s over, because i don’t.
I don’t need you, you know: yeah you’re, not gon na, be able to trust them after that, especially when something is really on the table and then they don’t come through.
I know that just as well, i do want to say one thing and i appreciate uh.
Your the way, you’re saying all this and the truth is like there’s so many people out there that you know when i promise you this that the other thing um now that i made it, i look back and i’m like now all the bsers.
You know they can say whatever they want now.
I want to be the platform to help people to get to their dreams.
You know, and i don’t want to be a person that was i’m either going to tell you.
I can help you or i can’t help you, i’m not gon na swindle around say: oh yeah, i’m gon na make you this star this that no my platform speaks for itself and you can come on it and if you could deliver like you say you deliver And do what you say: you’re gon na do i’m gon na do what i say: i’m gon na do facts.
I hope everybody hears that and learns something and takes something away from our conversation, character, integrity and loyalty.
Do you think that this is a lost cause during these times absolutely um yeah? Without a doubt, you know people are depending on people now.
People are hoping when someone says uh.
This is going to work, it has to work or if it doesn’t work, then they’re.
Let down you know because everything that’s going through in this world.
You know it’s, it’s really heartbreaking.
You know and i i swear i wish like uh.
I just someone would i’m not.
I mean i’m not saying i’m better than anybody, but i wish they would go through what i’m, through being from being the guys that raised me to training in north philadelphia being the only white boy in the gym.
You know this meant a lot in life, because now i can’t my character is different.
If i was just a regular white guy and then i don’t want to get into this race thing, i’m not that, but i’m being real with this like it would be a different thing like i, i see all the cultures of people and you know i’m a White guy and if the two black guys and raised men might not be where i was that’s interesting, much very, very much love and much respect.
I think my whole thing is: i know that not everybody’s going to do it, but when you encounter someone like yourself, we all need to show respect number one.
We need to show thankfulness, because my husband – and i were just talking earlier today that time is precious and when somebody gives you their time when they could be doing anything else, even if they’re doing absolutely nothing don’t take that for granted, cherish it and show appreciation.
Sure going back to it again say what you mean yeah and mean what you say: definitely and we’re all we’re all going to be held responsible, uh, miss jackie callan.
She said: do not burn any bridges, because there’s no way back, i’m friends with jackie she’s, a great woman.
I know i love her um.
I called her one time and she took the time out of what she was doing just to listen to what i had to say and that’s that’s another uh young lady, too everybody shout out to first lady jack and cal and much love so damon.
She had a movie about her too we’re gon na get your movie too the sheila story.
I like that.
Oh this, you know jack jackie, had a movie done about her um against all the odds.
I believe it was.
It was her, hey, ryan.
The actress played it yes and so funny story.
I met jackie when i was um 17 years old right.
I was uh watching her.
I was watching james tony fight um.
Was it james, tony’s playing dave tyberry, my dad trained tiberi so um, so it was a close fight, but tiberia looked like he won the fight and they gave it to tony.
It was big controversy where donald trump came in the room and said he’ll.
Never do another fight until this decision has changed and then one month later trump did in a fight.
So that’s just him, but it was funny but meeting jackie.
I was like always like stopping the house.
Jackie got like because she was like the woman of boxing, and it was a lot and when you have women like i, i believe women can do.
Anything guys can do without a doubt like more people.
People that run my business are all basically women in you know of all cultures too.
So it’s like really cool.
You know what do you since we’re talking about women? What do you think about women boxers? I want to talk about the boxers now.
Do you see – and i know that there is but see a big change of of women having more opportunities? Definitely well, i think clarissa shields is, you know, she’s an amazing fighter.
Yeah she speaks out how she feels she tells it how it is, and i think it’s really important – i love to see more women follow her because they can do it like she’s proven it like um, but i want to see her almost see her break out And like acting or other business type things where you know she gets the payoff because she’s one of the best fighters ever the female division.
But yes, i think you know that’s one thing with celebrity boxing: we have the new female division and we’re trying to build that up.
We’Re you know we’re doing women’s match each event.
We just had sabrina parr.
She was she’s, a fitness girl.
She took on the one girl from jersey shore, she won uh, like reality, girls, you know and just keep giving the women the chance and the women can do anything, and it’s really important.
Everybody knows that, and i love celebrity boxing to give the women the chance, because it’s an event where they won’t get hurt.
That is true because i love to see women box because we can be beautiful, we can be classy, we could be sexy, but um don’t have us fooled all the time, because i said one time that if someone would have grabbed a hold of me at the Right time, boy, i’m telling you i would have been a monster and a beast in that ring.
Have you ever boxed i used to, but not professionally or an amateur? I used to just take boxing classes and yes, i have been up in the ring.
So that’s what i’m saying i know there’s a difference between street fighting, because i’ve done enough of that and then, when you get into the ring, because it’s more strategic, if you, if, if you want to say it and then the the training that you have to Go through the strength and the conditioning and the cardio, it’s whoo.
It’S nobody understands that they think they’re in shape they they’re not in shape until they go through boxing.
I don’t care.
What shape they’re in boxing is the top shape, but if we ever do atlanta, we got to get you as a uh, the female referee, for a female match.
Oh, please do because i would love it because um i don’t know it’s just something about females, because a lot of times people judge and second guess, yeah and i’m telling you female boxers.
Oh there is one thing, though.
I think that there should be more and better promoting the female boxers yeah and the trainers.
Now.
This is just my opinion because of technology, innovation and the internet of things um, the trainer already has enough that they have to do, but we got to see more of the female boxers on the social media.
It’S always true.
I always see them promoting themselves or promoting the fight.
So now it’s like say if you get a job and you are applying to be an accountant.
Well, it’s really not you just being accounted you’re going to have to be able to do other things within that corporate organization, so i think also the trainers, kind of need to get more in tuned with the social media.
Definitely, i think, you’re absolutely right.
Everything is social media.
Now it’s all about the hype and promotion.
So without a doubt all right, everybody more promotions, better promotions, and we need to see the female boxers more on everything.
Even when i google you up, i need to be seeing the correct information so fyi.
What are some gold nuggets that somebody has given you that you turned into a gold mine? Well, basically, my really just the boxing knowledge man, you know like uh, my dad trained six world champions and you know i known him knowing him, but he was from day one.
He was always pushed me to be a fighter.
You know it’s not, and it got to the point where it was getting tough, but then i got injured, but i guess my dad.
You know he gave me all the knowledge of boxing him.
Handing me around frank, the animal fletcher and anthony two gun fletcher and those two guys like it’s weird how everything’s meant for life like in what does changes your life understanding, and it’s all about how you carry yourself in life right.
It’S just, i think, those things and you know boxing changed my life boxing, just if it wasn’t for boxing.
I wouldn’t i probably wouldn’t be on this call with you right now.
You know i wouldn’t be on all the tv show everything i do.
You know just boxing did it for me and thankful.
You know i wouldn’t know what what to do and anything in life.
It wasn’t for boxing i’d love to hear that, because my husband and i we have the stafford boxing club, which is a non-profit organization, and we reach out to the youth using the sport of boxing, because a lot of the youth they’re very aggressive and they’re, going Through a lot of things in their personal life, and they don’t have that outlet to be able to channel that energy into something more positive right, adding in financial literacy as a life, skill, which i believe is very important.
So i’d like to hear stories like that.
So when you said that boxing was a part of your life and that’s what changed, you was a part of your change and you wouldn’t be here now: can you kind of go further into depth about that sure? Well, boxing gave me of the kid for.
First of all, i was five about seven years old.
You know and i met frank, the animal flesh and anthony two gunfish.
They were brothers, they were guys living in my dad’s house, and i was really probably a lost kid at that time, because my mom was the quadriplegic in a wheelchair.
She got injured and they were living at the house and my dad was training him and i started boxing because i saw them and i was like man i want to be like them.
You know they’re.
I want to be a champion all that and they would always make sure i was taken care of, and it just really just made me boxing was like my way out.
You know boxing was like, i started training and it was like my therapy.
It was like by training, it took my mind off of what might happen to my mom and made me damn.
I want to be a world champion like that’s all i ever thought about from when i was 10 years old till time i got injured.
I won the junior olympics when i was an amateur and i turned pro and you know i didn’t i was doing it as therapy.
Like i looked back and i’m like damn man, i was like.
I watched my fight on usa, tuesday flights, i’m like how i could have done so much better and different out.
Then i’m like damn.
If i get a known then what i know now, i would have been a superstar then like just with all the expo, but we didn’t have social media uh really that much 20 years ago, but it was like, but it was just the interest.
The hype and like uh boxing makes you like: when i wake up every day, it makes makes you wan na just be better as a person and help people.
It really does it’s the way i look at it.
I got you and also how i look at it for myself when i go through some challenging times and my husband said it and get knocked out, you got to get back up, but sometimes you might not be able to, though yeah you know when you get Knocked out you just, but it just get knocked down, don’t get knocked out, get knocked down facts! Yeah, um! I want to go backwards.
Just real quick with your celebrity boxing you’re the.
How can people watch it if they’re not able to come personally to yeah? I mean well, we all our fights right now, i think, are on fight tv fit.
tv, we’re we were on every cable outlet in north america, but that’s only for a certain amount of time and it’s live on pay-per-view, but we’re trying to get a network deal now.
We are talking to some companies um, but they’re around you know.
My instagram is pretty solid, i’m the go-to company on instagram for celebrity boxing and i guess a got a great team, great people involved and if you haven’t seen it, you got ta watch.
It’S really cool because it could be you stepping in the ring facts now.
Do you have a book? I don’t know.
Do you have yeah yeah? I wrote my book in the worst time.
My life, i don’t really promote it anymore.
It was called the 16 minute man uh it’s about my life and career.
It’S you know.
I was basically gon na make that into my movie and then i, the guy david greenberg, wrote my script.
We switch it around now.
It’S celebrity boxing, the damon feldman story.
Just because it just adds up um yeah, but i do have a book um it’s on amazon and it’s pretty cool.
It tells talks about.
I mean like up to a certain point.
You know like um the real crazy fight ahead set and that’s where i hit the brick wall was sugary.
Leonard jr was going to fight marvin hagler jr on the 30-year anniversary of their father’s fight to the press conference.
Everything was set and i hit that brick wall, but you know it was all meant for a reason.
I’M still good friends with them and um you know ended up, i was doing bigger fights with will morrow at them.
You know blac chyna and all that.
How did you get that name? The 16 minute man um the next girlfriend is funny like not not that way.
16 minutes next year open because we were just talking about the so everybody says it’s like they think it’s like some porno thing.
When i say 16 man i’ll excuse me for that, but uh yeah so 16 minutes, because i give celebrities with 15 minutes of fame or more, i give them their 16th minute by stepping in the ring.
Oh okay, i like that so tell our viewers or give our viewers some gold nuggets that you can that they can turn into a gold mine.
Well, what i suggest on everybody is: if you have an idea or a goal, if you have an idea, make it work and how you make that work is by putting it down on paper and executing it make it happen like it doesn’t matter who says no To you, it won’t work because, honestly, i don’t know how many people said celebrity boxing wasn’t going to work.
I wasn’t going to make it and i did, and you know i’m in a great spot right now, but what i’m saying that is just make go after it.
You know you can write your goals down right.
Have that idea just go after it, you can make it work, because it’s only you’re the only one that can make it not work.
You understand anybody else, it doesn’t matter who says no.
It can’t work whatever it has no effect on you only mentally.
If it does, you got to keep working because you’re the only one who could really not make it work.
So that’s the way i look at it.
Facts tell everyone how they can get in contact with you yeah.
Well, they can contact um, our company.
I i don’t take direct connections anymore, really that much except for you, no i’m trying to keep it.
You know where it’s real, business-like and uh um, but they can just you know through celebrity officialcelebrityboxing.
com uh instagram.
They can check our stuff out, and you know that’s where we’re at right now.
