Thank you for uh, taking out time to come.
Talk to me and cedric about about your career.
We profiled you a little while back and uh, let the fans know about you and uh the dangerous hands that you have.
Sir uh welcome.
What’S up how you guys doing? Thank you for having me this is a pleasure to be on your show, absolutely yeah man.
No worries no worries, uh cedric, victor you don’t really know him too much.
I sent you some videos to watch his uh.
We did watch that we did watch that nasty that nasty knockout there.
You like that one all right.
You guys keep talking for a second.
I can actually, i can actually show that video right now.
Maybe we should maybe we should take a look at it.
Yeah we’ll definitely take a look at it.
Let’S uh, let’s find victor here, knocking knocking people out like he does here it is.
We got it again: [ Applause, ], victor victor wow.
You remember that fight yeah yeah, you trained hard for that one eh yeah.
I was training like like three times a day for that fight.
I didn’t even know what i was getting myself into right now.
Right now you know it was.
It was a dope fight man.
I had the honor of clipping that video to show some people so man.
How did you feel going in like uh, i’m not sure what round that was in um it looked like you were working really hard, especially when you, when you had him, hurt really trying to stop him um.
What do you feel is like your your your favorite punch to throw like when you want to finish a guy off, which is your favorite weapon to use yeah honestly in that fight, i was i wasn’t down in the scorecards, so you knew you had to finish Him game plan was out the window yeah because um honestly um, i found out what time it was for real yeah and thank god i was committed to you, know my training, regimen disciplined and always believing in myself.
You know i was out boxed, i waited yeah.
I feel like i was just telegraphing it and then the third round i noticed she took a knee because the game plan i pressed slowly and third and fourth yeah everything.
You know you know.
I just seen that opening and i connected with the first job with the second drive, because he blocked the first one he paired yeah, but when the second one connected, all i wanted to do was just to land the right hand, but right here, [, Music, ], But when i hit him – and i did the head movement – he dropped – i was talking to in the moment yeah, although, like him, it was just, it was just different how he felt yeah yo you folded him man, you folded him in that one.
The way he felt was just crazy, like don’t get me wrong, i was losing fight.
I’Ve been trying to hit him.
I’Ve been trying to get him, but when he felt like that like for that one second and then i said, i think the ref caught it off.
He was like so conscious at the end of the day.
You know i do want to win.
I want to compete uh, but at the end of the day you know i want every everybody to be safe and time to you know, be able to get up and go back to his family because right well in the grand world trying to compete.
You know, but perhaps slight instant before so victor.
How did you get into boxing um? Tell all the fans, you know what age did you start um.
So as a kid i was just very active of watching actionable stuff.
That was just my oh thing on i’ll i’ll, try to watch it and then, where i was being raised that and what happened yeah.
One of my faces told me about, and i would always walk by there.
You know um.
So it was beneficial for me because i was easy access to.
I didn’t have to rely on my mind to get me there, so they always decided me.
I wanted to develop my skill actually like three guys at a time, but where was that there was a boxing gym, they didn’t have corrupt right, one thing led to the next and you know they were like yo you want to you want to spar.
I was like happy: how did you feel that first time sparring like how did that, how did that feel yeah? I had like tunnel vision that was mad hard to like fight with the headgear [ Music ].
I wasn’t connecting.
I was running out of breath.
We were doing like two minute rounds and then you know, ideally, you know i moved out to three but like two minutes was just like wow, like yeah intense.
You know.
Two minutes feels like 20 20 minutes when you’re, when you’re not used to it.
Yeah yeah yeah, it does trust me i get in there to do two minutes right now.
I feel like i need a rest and then one of my friends he was a south pole and he had a little bit more experience.
So um i had his uh.
I had that competitive end to to keep me pushing.
You know yeah um, that was dope.
You know it was cool uh having competition around, because that’s that’s how you get better.
You know so shopping sword.
What’S your what’s your biggest motivation, my biggest motivation, yeah uh, my biggest motivation is um is my family in dominican republic.
You know i was born in the dominican republic.
I came to united states at a young age when i was five.
My dad still lives in the dominican republic in a place called savannah palida, which is like 20 minutes from the capital of santo domingo.
My grandma lives over there.
My grandfather, a lot of people that raised me prior to me coming here.
So you know it’s been difficult economically to go back to everybody.
You know.
I understand that i’m in a better position with more opportunity.
You know the whole point of it was to come to america to chase the dream, but you know i can’t i can’t live my dream.
Wow.
You know my people back home.
You know that’s my motivation to be able to provide and offer opportunities to my little brothers that they don’t.
You know you know yeah.
So that’s what personally every day you know that’s why i’m investing so much into boxing so yeah.
You definitely have the talent brother.
You definitely have that talent, you know, that’s still set you’re, naturally gifted too man, which is good.
You got that natural ability that natural athlete in you and you know it’s it’s not a lot of people have that man, so you already have a good edge above people and then your skill set man.
You got good skill, undefeated right now.
What’S up.
What’S short, what’s the short-term goal for you right now say in like a year, where do you plan yeah um? So i’m i’m into running for a celebrity making of a champion which is like the next.
You know big reality.
Tv show which is going to be aired uh, i believe, internationally yep.
It will be an international international, viewing yeah.
So it’s a competition.
The winner wins a million dollars.
Uh maybe come to top 15 in in the world.
But besides the money aspect, too um, you know you know i want to school for political science.
You know it was always important to me to be able to advocate for my my rates and for others of rapes as well, because you know i get growing up.
As you know, a foreigner here in the united states, it would be difficult to be able to express myself and to advocate for myself and just having you know, grandparents hair from my mom’s side that you know don’t really speak english and you know, need people to Speak for them to translate it to be aware of rules, laws and regulations.
How things work i like to be able to you know just be a voice for others, because that’s something that is always important for me.
You know yeah muhammad ali, you know um, you know um and at the end of the day, like you know, energy energy is priceless.
You know, motivation is priceless, but these are all things that people could feel.
You know he’s attainable.
You know – and you know coming from where i come from, and you know my story and my struggle.
You know i would like to be able to motivate inspire other people to whatever they got going on that keep pushing you keep striving.
You keep working hard.
You know you’re going to make ends meet.
You know right cedric.
I know you’re dying to ask something: go ahead: brother, yeah um! Did you um? I’M sorry.
If you mentioned, as kind of my audio, was kind of off um, how much of an amateur career do you have before you decide to turn pro um, so i was um i competed in golden gloves.
I had a couple of fights over there.
I think my record was uh.
I had 36 fights, i won 30.
I lost six.
All my losses were at nationals uh, except for one.
Actually one of them was last golden globe temple that they knew.
I was going to turn pro after that.
So i guess you know things are no different, but it is what it is.
I worry about it.
What’S up, go ahead now this morning, what uh and what gave you like? I just always wanted what gave you the confidence to make that decision like yeah, i’m ready, you know ready to turn pro and uh.
You know make this my career um, i mean i was just you know.
I won a lot of tournaments here in new england.
I was the england champion at two different way: classes.
First, i want to watch.
I only had like 11 12 fights.
I fought helpful.
I was able to beat him due to my hard work and dedication.
You know um, you know he seemed to be a little bit higher skilled, but in that moment but new england – and i don’t know – i just felt like control to be more around better.
But i don’t know if this just my unwillingness to quit i’ll leave that driving.
Probably definitely did you.
So you got you.
You graduated from school right.
You done.
You’Re done school now, uh yeah yeah, pretty much um.
I just had one last math class, which i’m done in like week and a half, but i’m basically done already, you know, did you find it hard to balance boxing and the academics? Was it? Was it hard um yeah it was? It was difficult um i had to wake up the earlier i just like i had to be in tune with myself.
I had i had to find out what worked for me that doesn’t work for me, so waking up early, working out and then going to study.
I was more likely so those those things kept me um in tune with myself and on the weekends at work.
Also over the curve, which i was kind of double double under sword, because i wasn’t able to pee, but i was in school um, but i did have one fight with that.
Okay, i came close and um out almost um having a test coming up having a fight, i think i had to take a test before my fight [ Laughter ].
Like i was stressed, you know, and oh man, i learned, you have to be 100 focused yeah and when it comes to boxing, because it’s like i’m on the line and i think that fight was defined in june 19th, it was like 90 degrees outside we’re.
Fighting outdoors the black canvas, you know it was very terrain and you know i kind of i wasn’t on point where everything you know right right, quick question.
So you’re uh, you started out um stopping your first five opponents.
Then i think the last two went.
The distance, or are you trying to work more on your on your boxing skills to you know, get more of that experience as you move up in the ranks, or did it just happen honestly, i was trying to knock everybody out.
I was just trying to get a minute now because you know when i train, i the.
How do you train the easier the fight is gon na? You know right um, but for my sixth fight that was my first six rounder.
I was ready for her.
I remember i like i was just i recovered from my code just in time for that fight you know.
So when i was in the gym, i was like not trying to go too hard, because i know the fight was coming out, so i’m making sure, like my body’s at least recovered enough, that i don’t want to smash it and not happen.
So it becomes very.
Like fine tuning when it comes to getting sick prior to a fight, but it doesn’t take anything away from because the kid who i fought with and he came to try to be, you know, and i tried to go for the kill.
If i hit him over.
Hmm so training.
What’S the worst part about it, what do you? What do you hate the most about your training? Everybody’S got one yeah i mean i got ta say i do love.
I love food man.
I love food.
You love food.
I love food man.
I love food um, but boxing has taught me a lot of discipline.
You know it’s taught me a lot of priceless things that will forever be with me for the rest of my life.
Um.
Even nutritional aspects of things you know um but yes is: is the food portion and being able to portion myself caution control when to eat? When i say uh yeah it sucks man, but it is what it is.
You know he who sacrifices the most gets the biggest prize.
Exactly exactly exactly i’ve been investing, i’ve been putting in i’m going for broke for boxing baby yeah man um.
Do you want to be loved or do you want to be feared? Um, honestly, i don’t really care, but it all depends on what’s going on in the situation, because, whatever whatever brings the bigger paycheck yeah and also in the moment too, because you know you know just to me myself – who i am i’m very you know, i’m laid Back, i’m humble you know i’m respectful, but if you want to turn up you want to disrespect me, you want to call me out and we’ve got a pop, and you know what i’m saying i could show you a whole different side and i ain’t afraid of Nobody, okay, who you were, who you associated with what you have done in the past, show me right here.
You know it is what it is.
Then elevator is going to elevate, but i’m here to fight and i’m here to win.
That’S right, man, yo victor! I love watching you box brother, you know, honestly, you fight with such passion every time you’re in the ring man, you leave it all out there for everybody.
You know you know what it is man we much respect, much love for you, we’re not going to keep you too much longer.
Maybe ask you one or two more questions and get out of here, because we all got to get back to work.
It’S it’s! It’S work day but um.
What’S up, what’s the long-term goal, what’s uh, what’s what do you want and then what do you want out of it when you, when you hang it up um, you know it would be nice.
It would be real nice to be uh undisputed.
You know 147 when i’m thinking about getting ready, for you know a tournament, i’m thinking about the boogeyman at 147.
.
Everybody knows this crawford, you know.
So when i train and the mindset what’s crawford doing, you know what i’m saying my trainer’s like all right, well cut back cut back like profit ain’t coming back, wasn’t back mayweather wasn’t coming back, they’re pushing that’s what separates those guys from the next guys.
You know what i’m saying so, at the end of the day, i’m trying to you know pick everybody’s brains on you know their philosophy on their training regimen this and that you know i try to ask a lot of ex professional fighters.
You know how you know practical: they were with their.
You know, working on regimen and things like that.
Um yeah.
What was your question again? I got off track.
What do you want to be remembered for when you hang it up? Okay, yeah so um, undisputed, undisputed and um.
I’M trying to inspire motivate everybody.
You know that you know push out it shouldn’t, be any excuses for whatever it is.
You know you know just right behind the grind.
Um i like to be able to you know just motivate people yeah, you know everybody, you know everybody has a motivation, needs motivation, no matter your financial situation, you know whether you’re rich or poor, you everybody goes through battles, you know um and i just want to Feed a lot of aspects carefully, cedric you want to ask uh, you want to ask your final question and uh and we’ll let victor get back to work.
Uh, yes um, which one which one um just just generally, if you’re ever in the in the michigan area, like i said i’m right by the board here, if you want a quiet place to hold your training camp, no distractions i’ll make sure to get some good Sparring i’ll talk to your promoter, then you’ll you’ll be ready, you’ll be ready.
So i got you.
I got you yeah where, where that pull up, if i’m around there for sure, because you know i’m always going to different places, trying to get a different spine and trying to get this legs yeah, i like it.
Oh he’s got a nice facility too.
I’Ve been there give him a little taste there give him a little taste just show him just show: [ Music ] the whole back room, there’s another whole back room full of weights and stuff too for like strength, conditioning but yeah, yeah yeah all right! Well, victor.
