EPISODE: Episode 4
Born in Jamaica, Gary Mason grew up in Clapham and was based in Kent, England, when he won the British Heavyweight Championship in 1989, after winning his first professional fight five years earlier. He was known as a Gentle Giant, had an iron chin and fought until 1994, winning 37 of his 38 fights, 34 by knockout, losing only to Lennon Lewis – though suffering a second injury to his eye, a detached retina, in the 7th round. Afterwards, he had two more fights, which he won and then retired. He founded what is now known as the Gary Mason Rhythmical Empowerment Charitable Foundation, a ‘not-for-profit’ charity which teaches African djembe drum music to people of all ages, colours and creeds with an emphasis on encouraging the disabled and those with special needs. Mason died on January 6, 2011, in a cycling accident in South London.

This episode is brought to you by your friends at professionalelectricalservices.
ca.
My name is craig in this episode.
We are remembering gary mason, born on december 15, 1962 gary mason was known for his punching power and his physical strength.
His rather short professional career of 10 years found him in 38 fights, but gary literally knocked out 34 of those opponents knocked him out and he proceeded to win 37 out of the whole 38 fights.
So he knocked out 34 won three more and lost.
One only lost one fight out of those 38.
, so who was the only boxer to to beat gary mason? Well, that would be one lennox lewis.
He handed mason his only loss at the british heavyweight boxing titles in 1991.
.
Unfortunately, though, gary’s loss to lennox lewis would be the beginning of a downward spiral in gary’s career.
He ended up being divorced.
He ended up being as estranged from his teenage son.
He ended up impoverished and penniless knowing of mason’s situation.
His local boxing fraternity, uh over in britain, created a gala event to honor gary mason.
The event raised 10 000 british pounds, which was presented to gary mason to help him with his financial difficulties fast forward 20 years from 1991 to 2011.
It was in the early morning, hours of january, 6th 2011.
.
The mason uh was out bicycling as part of his training for an upcoming charity event that he uh was uh promising to fulfill.
It was an upcoming boxing event, so he was training and, tragically that morning, mason was hit by a van while he was cycling.
Gary died at the scene and that wasn’t even very far from where he had been living all alone.
Poor penniless.
He was only 48 years old, so whatever happened to the ten thousand pounds that would was given to him by his boxing fraternity.
Well, here’s something that was kept secret um only revealed after his death back in 1991, shortly after being gifted the 10 000 pounds gary found himself at the bedside of his close friend and fellow boxer, michael watson, see michael, was in about with chris eubank just the Night before it was the 11th round and it seemed like michael watson was going to win the match.
He just knocked eubank down to the mat, but you eubank got back up and he gave him a crushing.
Uppercut uh and michael watson fell back against the ropes knocked his head against the ropes and, after all, the confusion and all the dust had settled.
Michael watson was left in a coma and brain damaged for life and all the secret of this well in true gentleman fashion.
After seeing his friend in a coma, gary mason passed the 10 000 pounds to michael’s mother and told her michael’s family needs this more than me, and this is just a small glimpse into the life of gary mason, make sure to check out more videos at talkandfight.
