Thank you for joining me once again here in the mecca of boxing Toronto, Canada, for another episode of boxing news today here on talk and fight.
Let’S start off where we always start off with a little bit of controversy.
Uh, it seems that uh lightwe, Contender, keesan Davis, has gone on a rather big rant this week, complaining about media criticizing his and Shakur Stevenson’s.
Recent performances Kean wants blanket praise from the media, no matter how poor and that’s not realistic.
According to boxing news24.
com Davis maintains that it’s bad for the sport for the media to criticize Fighters for the way they fight.
He wants praise, even after Poor performances like this recent one against nahir Albright.
Last November Davis goes on to say that fans will stop watching the sport if the media keeps criticizing the fighters for boring and fighting badly.
Actually, the fans will stop watching if Fighters are putting them to sleep like hean did against Albright and Shakur did in most of his 21 fights as a pro.
I have this to say, I believe, like all major sports organizations in uh hockey, football baseball basketball, each of their teams have professionally trained uh players who were given the opportunity to speak to the media and therefore speak professionally uh.
They speak to the key points that are given to them: uh related to the brand, and not only of their team, but of the sport in general.
Boxers are not given that opportunity.
They do not uh speak eloquently to the media on behalf of either themselves or their team, either whether signed uh to a matchmaking, matchmaking organization or, in fact, a management team.
This surprises me and yet it doesn’t surprise me.
I think uh really in the in, in the whole spectrum of boxing around the world, there are only a handful in each division who truly get to the top, who truly get to speak to the media and even then it’s a limited amount of media.
So of those few who do get to speak to the media, I would hope that they take my advice and receive professional media training uh from a professional organization who can provide that level of training.
Um such as someone like myself, not to brag or anything, but over the years over the decades, I’ve had uh a career in uh, music and entertainment, uh film, as a variety of other Industries as well, and one of my roles as a senior executive or a Consultant has been to provide media training for senior level Executives, including CEOs, so believe me when I say, professionalism is important when speaking to the media and boxers need to learn how to speak to the media when speaking to the media, as especially when there’s a free-for-all Available to them called social media.
U none of the headlines and reports and news items that I bring to you come courtesy via social media uh unless they’re equipped, as that previous story was um in in an organization devoted to boxing in general and providing news.
So, let’s get back to news arv, as you know, it’s going up against: U one of UK’s favorites, Callum Smith, this upcoming uh weekend in a few days time over in Quebec, which is under a couple of feet of snow right now and I’m sure Smith, is Having a delightful time in his winter wonderland uh, while waiting for U his chance at wbcw, ibf light heavyweight titles, also by the way on that uh card Jason Maloney is going up against Sal Sanchez for the WBO Banton weight title anyway, H, bit B, is a Five to one favorite over Smith Smith, being the underdog in this fight, and it’s going to be interesting to see I I mentioned uh yesterday, a young Canadian female fighter.
Looking forward to that result, anyway, speaking of AR arur bet be of uh.
He has something to say about the upcoming Alexander yusk uh fight against Tyson Fury, as you all know, better be have fought a sequence of bouts with youi.
Now the unified heavyweight and Champion not really when they were both amateurs, BB, doesn’t rule out moving up in weight himself, but it says he’s fully focused on his next opponent, naby Smith and uh.
He had this to say with respect to um yusk, who better be have beat uh once and he believes Tyson Fury will do so too uh in their Undisputed heavyweight title fight.
Bbf, who is the holder of the w CW ibf flight? Heavyweight Championships lost to yusk into exciting bouts at 91 kilograms in the 2011 amateur World Championships and 2012 Olympics, but he’s the first to point out that he also holds an amateur win over yusk beating the Ukrainian when they were both light heavyweights uh.
So he Shrugged off those past defeats and said that time my weight was only 83 kilograms.
I’Ve never been 90 K kilograms in a fight.
We had another fight too the amateurs there was a match in Russia uh.
I had to fight him there at 81 kilograms and I beat him on the first day of the tournament.
You know yusk.
He does his job very well.
What I can say good for him, that is something of an understatement.
Yusk has excelled as a professional beating, anti Joshua to win the WBO, ibf and WBA heavyweight titles and his February fight with WBC titles Fury gives him a chance to become a two-weight Undisputed Champion uh, but amateur rival better, be if thinks Fury will be victorious in That fight next month, I said when they fight Alexander us with Joshua.
I said I think Joshua is going to win I’m more for Joshua because he’s real heavyweight he’s, not a cruiserweight, there’s a big difference.
I say who’s preparing well to win.
Now too, I think Tyson Fury is going to win, but who’s preparing well he’s going to win better, be have, as you know, has been dominant as professional fighter, undefeated and uh this weekend.
We’Ll defend those titles against Liverpool’s, Callum Smith.
I believe that’s uh on Sky Sports and if he does win with his devastating Power Punch over Smith, he could consider move up to one uh one.
Was it light, heavyweight or heavyweight, or stay at 175, and Target an Undisputed fight with Demitri bivel, which, as a boxing fan, I would like to see uh it’s interesting.
Let’S talk about it after he said uh.
I don’t know who is out there next, but I’m focused now on my next opponent, Calum Smith and, as we all know, Smith’s Eddie, Hearn and Smith himself says he will batter better beev who they consider to be an aging boxer, thus over the hill uh.
But I’m telling you better B is goingon to win that fight and probably knock out Smith.
Let’S move on to another knockout prediction here, Francis Nagano vows to knock out Anthony Joshua as the UFC Legend points out, why the Brit is an easier fight than Tyson Fury, love it.
Francis Nano has vowed to knock out anthon Joshua kiry, the son over in the UK, believing it’ll be an easier night’s work than against Tyson Fury.
Nano put his MMA career on hold last year to cross over to boxing H for a fight with the Gypsy King.
Uh not just to put his career on hold over in MMA, but to make some money for once in his life and and the boxing debutant astonished he floored Fury in that third round, but failed to keep him down before losing a controversial decision because he did Win on one judges score work card anyway.
Nanu is 37 years of age over the hill claimed.
He will not make the same mistake of letting Joshua 34 years of age uh back up when they share the same ring in in March.
He said I think most likely I will knock anti Joshua out.
I think he’s easier to go down than Fury.
That is my my first fight in boxing as anyone, I’m just improving and the gap of improvement for a beginner.
Like me, it’s huge I’m just a beginner, improving! No one still knows what I can do, not that he’s not a strong fighter, he’s very tough fighter, but he’s easier to send down than Fury and it’s harder for him to get back up than Fury.
If AJ takes the punch that Fury took, I don’t guarantee he’s getting up.
I’Ve heard that he doesn’t have a chin and I’m going to find out that’s great alrighty.
Let’S talk about another former champ Errol Spence, he did in fact uh have cataract surgery according to Mike copinger over at ESPN, who writes former welterweight champ Erol Spence said on Monday that he underwent cataract surgery.
This is all in the wake of the Terrence Crawford, uh loss and and and some argue that he’s giving an excuses to that loss.
But anyway, uh.
The recovery timeline for cataract surgery is approximately eight weeks and the procedure comes 20 months after Spence suffer suffered a detached retina in training that scrapped his planned August 20.
One fight uh with Manny Pacquiao, Spence who’s 28 and one with 22 knockouts posted a video on Instagram speaking of social media that showed him being transported in a wheelchair, with his right eye bandaged and in a since deleted Instagram story.
Spence said it’s been ped to was covering my eye.
What you think I got hit so tabs and hooks still a great performance by bro, Spence, 33 years of age was clearly referring to his July fight with Terence Crawford for the Undisputed welterweight Championship.
Cra cord, however, dismantled Spence floored him Thrice uh and stopped him in round nine of their highly anticipated fight.
Afterward Spence activated the rematch clause, but it’s unclear how the latest injury will affect the timeline of a return bout.
If it happens at all, we’ll have to wait and see.
Won’T we speaking of waiting and seeing Connor Ben is waiting and seeing if he can get back in a ring so he’s over in USV in Las Vegas um and expecting a fight.
This quarter, uh Connor Ben, had been hoping to fight Chris Eubank, as we all know over in the UK, but that got all uh derailed, shall we say uh by his testing results, which are ongoing, uh and so anyway.
So he’s moved over to to to the US and uh he’s landed in Las Vegas and we’ll put the finishing touches on his preparation to face.
Peter Dobson got that name Peter Dobson at the Cosmopolitan on February 3rd and before the fight.
U Ben said I’d, say: 2022 was the worst year for me, but 2023 was a year of learning and growing.
He said I’d like to say I became more accepting of the situation I was in.
I found out.
I was having a little daughter, which is a blessing and spent a lot of time with my dad.
For me, it was a year of growth.
Personally, this really has made me a better man, so there you go um while Ben makes his Vegas debut in a matter of weeks.
Australian tinsu is expected to do the same in March and following his recent victory over Frederick Lawson another controversy, it was Virgil Ortiz, who spoke up uh potential clash with the Australian there’s a lot of Fighters.
I want, but Tim saou with all due respect.
I want him next said Ortiz, so there we go stuff to look forward to in the future, thanks once again for joining me here in talk and fight.
