Tyson Fury & Oleksandr Usyk Teams Have Informed WBA They’ve Agreed To Terms For April 29th Fight At Wembley Stadium

By Jake Tiernan: The team for Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have notified the WBA that they’ve agreed to terms for an undisputed heavyweight clash on April 29th to avert the World Boxing Association’s deadline of 5:00 p.m. GMT today to avoid the Daniel Dubois mandatory being forced on Usyk for his next fight. Usyk will no longer be defending against his WBA mandatory Dubois next, which Fury claims would have earned him only $2 million. WBC heavyweight champion Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs) and IBF, WBA & WBO champion Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) will meet on April 29th at the 95,000-seat Wembley Stadium in London, England. Earlier today, Fury had informed Usyk that he was only willing to offer him a 70-30 split, saying that each day he delayed accepting his deal, he would deduct 1%. Usyk returned and accepted the offer, saying that Fury must donate £ 1 million to the Ukrainian people immediately after their fight.

All four heavyweight titles will be up for grabs for the Fury vs.  Usyk fight next month, with the winner becoming the undisputed champion, the first in 40 years. If there’s no draw, we’ll have an undisputed champion.

We don’t know how well-conditioned the 34-year-old Fury will be for the fight, considering that he reportedly hasn’t started training, and he will have to work quickly to try and get in top shape to be ready to face Usyk on April 29th. Usyk has already been training for months and looks in excellent condition.

This isn’t going to be an easy fight for Fury like his last two continues against journeyman Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte. Usyk has a lot more talent than those two British domestic-level fighters, and Fury won’t be able to use his simple grabbing & leaning style that has become his entire game since hooking up with coach Sugarhill Steward four years ago.

Fury will need to get back to the level he was at when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. Back then, Fury was light on his feet and capable of moving & boxing. That was before he added a lot of size to his frame and hired Sugarhill as his coach. It would take too long for Fury to trim off enough weight and build his conditioning up enough to handle a fast-paced fight with Usyk.
