Hi there boxing fans around the world.
Thank you once again for joining us on another episode of knuckle up featuring mike orr at four and today, as promised.
Yesterday we have a special guest.
Yes, we do.
Yes, we do indeed uh yet another young fantastic fighter coming out of america, who’s, uh, ready, willing and able to talk to us who you got lined up there, big mike, who i have today for us, ladies and gentlemen, watching around the world.
Yes, he’s here, we have haven the hitman brady junior 2-0, two knockouts, one of top ranks new prospects.
He’S come with he’s come to the studio here to uh, have a chat with us today about his wonderful rise in the uh in the ranks and his uh and the fact that he’s going to school man.
I can’t wait to talk to him about this.
I i hope you ask him whether uh tommy hearns has contacted him.
Eddie hearns betty, no tommy, the hitman hearns all right.
Well, honestly, i can’t wait to talk to this kid man and the folks around there.
This guy is a professional boxer and he’s you know what he’s he right now he’s juggling uh university man he’s got a six course load, apparently and trying to try to go for his masters in biology.
So it’s gon na be interesting to see how he’s uh, how he’s juggling that we’re uh we’re.
Definitely gon na get him in here in a minute and uh, but boxing is called the sweet science.
So maybe anatomy is part of that biology course.
Maybe maybe with all this and that, maybe with all this anatomy uh it’s it’s helping him with these knockouts man.
Maybe he knows exactly where to hit okay, all right i’ll talk to you later have fun with the interview.
Yes, man, i will all right, and here he is, ladies and gentlemen haven.
How are you i’m good? How about you? How about you, i’m good, i’m good man, i’m good! It’S nice, it’s nice for you to you, know finally come on and not join us.
The fans around the world want to see you uh on here, and we want to get down business and talk about you and your wonderful career and and the fact that you’re juggling some crazy school right now too um yeah.
Well, you know what let’s talk about that how’s, that going um like i’ve heard that uh you’re you’re at uh clark, atlanta university right now as a as a biology major, is that correct yeah? I just changed my major to business business management: okay, uh yeah, you uh, you also got ta.
You you’ve got a degree in business management from um from college already correct, uh right career associates.
Degree.
Awesome! Awesome, that’s a that’s like how.
How did you um like how do you, how do you find it to manage both? You know your academics and your professional career right now.
Do you find it difficult to juggle both or you just like you have everything planned timed and you know you got an agenda, that’s very strict and is that how you do it all yeah? Yes, that’s how i do.
I just stay on a timely manner to schedule and uh.
Do everything do everything on on a list you know i try to do.
I try to write down my list every day and go by my list, so i can have time for everything i need that need to be done so uh.
It’S not it’s not it’s not too hard, but i mean it’s like every.
You know.
It’S always gon na be challenging life, not even so i mean i made the best of it and i do you know definitely well.
It looks like you’re doing great man honestly um.
You know you’re 2-0 right now in your professional career, with two knockouts uh you debuted under the bubble uh you signed a multi-year deal to uh top right um.
Can you can you run us through uh the emotions that you were feeling the minute you got that call and and were asked to join the top ranked team uh, probably like any other kid, probably one of the best feelings in the world, especially doing just something: You’Ve been doing um almost your whole life and uh.
The amateurs was fine and stuff, but now you only you you on the biggest stage, uh with being with top rank about fighting on tv, is uh just i can’t ask for any anything more.
So it’s just a great feeling and i’m proud to be on there, so you debuted in the bubble.
Um.
Can you run us through that experience? I know i know like a lot of athletes, were you were confined like i heard you were picked up from a limo and then kind of like rushed away and and kind of isolated until your fight.
Can you run us through that whole experience when you do that uh experience, it was okay, since it was my first fight uh.
I really don’t know what what it is fighting outside the bubble, so everything so all that was new and first to me you know uh, but uh.
Picking you up from the limo from the airport was nice and uh.
We get to the whole day the hotel, and then we uh take our cover test and uh most from um.
Then we stay in our room for the for the rest of time until it’s time to weigh in and fight and um eat eat twice a day, but i didn’t have to stay in the hotel.
The whole time – and just you know just give me time to focus to get my get my mind ready for the fight to just you know, keep playing a fight.
Oh in my head, you know just just be ready for showtime.
Did it uh? Do you find that it helped maybe settle the nerves for the uh, the first fight on tv, yeah yeah, i think so uh.
I think that’s a good thing that uh i started off in the bubble right here right here: uh the crowd.
I can tune in to my coaches a lot and have the crowd, yelling, saying oohs and odds and me trying to go, get a knockout or trying harder than i.
I should so it just kind of made me calm and settle and um.
I think that was a good thing.
Honestly, i uh.
Why watch both your fights in the bubble, and you know what you looked like a pro already that you know had time in the ring.
You know you, you looked calm, you knew exactly what to do.
You knew how to handle yourself and yeah.
You did listen to your coaches, very well, um, your coach, who are you coaches? Presently right now? Are you still training with the same team, uh-huh, uh, roshan jones and ulta jones, yeah yeah, so you’re still with the same club, and that was uh? That’S seoul city yeah correct! So so how did you hook up with seoul city, because they’re based out of toledo, ohio, correct hooked up coach with coach uh? Oh and uh amateurs uh, he kind of scouted me at one amateurs and uh, and before that i had came up here to sparta.
Oh and i i like how i like the way, a little move and things like that, you know we just talked and then we kind of connected from there.
So, okay, so he’s been with you since the man since since amateurs uh you you compiled a record of 65 and 10 with 30 knockouts man, those which is an amazing amateur record, uh, you’ve you’ve also, i believe, won a national title and uh and a junior Olympics gold medal, national and general olympics a total of three total of three which which which do you find, is your uh, your greatest achievement in the amateurs winning winning that gold uh.
My greatest achievement in the amateurs is probably the national pal uh.
With that, why i say that’s my great greatest achievement because um that was the national.
I had three out of four stoppages out of my three nations, my fourth national fight.
Three, i was stopped just and one i was, you know on the borderline and stopping so i felt like that was the biggest compliment, that’s something i i have uh i’ve been wanting to do since when i first got into amateurs, i wanted to go to nashville And uh i’m gon na stop all my uh, all my uh opponents and uh.
Those were closer.
I got to uh, so i feel like that was a big accomplishment for me that that is a great accomplishment as an amateur, even most of your accomplishments are great.
Let’S be real, you know gold medals, winning nationals, you know not a lot of people can do that, uh.
What what age like? What ages? You actually start boxing like when you first got into the gym and started you know, throwing gloves uh.
I i actually started when i was six, but i didn’t really start fighting and training training until i was 12 because i took a long layoff from 6 to 12, dragging between uh basketball and boxing and uh.
I took a couple years off boxing, and so i i say, 12, 12 years old, that’s not! I really said this is what i want to do.
It’S a life box and i kind of took it seriously and is 12 years old, the first time that you actually competed as an amateur yeah.
That was the first time i actually competed when i was or 12.
so i really don’t count uh.
When i was six.
I really don’t count that i really didn’t learn too much.
Danielle joseph introduced me to the sport kind of thing right and then he got bit by the bug: [ Laughter, ], that’s what it is man when you get into this sport.
Young and you know you learn something like that, and you tend to get stuck to it and it kind of never leaves you and it’s kind of something that you never.
You know you never really forget, but you know what it’s it’s great, that you came back to the sport man, because you got a lot to offer man you’re, you’re, very talented, boxer.
You know uh my fans out here, they’ve seen you i’ve put them on to you from time to time and honestly, i can’t wait to see the next time you’re in the ring any any word on the next time: you’re you’re about to fight or uh june 19Th is a set date june 19th set date.
Do you know who you’re fighting yet uh? I’M not sure.
Yes, a couple opponents they’re saying but i’ll, it’s not confirmed yet so i’ll be confirming a couple more weeks.
So when you uh, when you get that confirmation definitely got to, let us know the talk and fight family man, because we’re going to definitely watch you and we’ll want to get you back on after that fight uh for another interview, if uh, if so uh so Can come on and grace this with your presence? Yes, man um! So when you uh, as as you’re coming up in the boxing game, do you have any like role models that you looked up to any coaches that have really like influenced you throughout your career? So far, uh not not a coach in particular uh, i’m kind of like a loner a little bit so and not just focus on me and i just i’m a i watch him outside watch coaches and i watch and i watch different fighters as i grow up.
Uh there’s nobody in particular um a lot.
I like charles kind well, and i watch him a lot and uh.
He wanted the biggest people that i watched as far as fighters, but um there’s not nobody in particular, really uh favorite fighters that you’ve had in the past.
Who who are your favorite of all time, my favorite all times uh i like tommy, hitman um.
I, like uh panel whitaker, uh, floyd, definitely definitely floyd um, red jones and uh.
I probably sugar ray and probably some of my favorites.
I you know what you’ve hit you’ve hit a couple of my favorites too.
Definitely some of the greats right there uh.
If you could, if you could spar or fight any one of those greats today, who would it be uh floyd, all right, it’s the best of all time, so i just wan na you know he don’t want out of all them that went undefeated.
So i just have to test the waters.
Do you uh? Do you kind of? Do you find that you try to uh like? Are you your style, your style? Who do you like mimic your style after who do you kind of base it off of? Do you think or is it your own style, you’re new uh, i’m based off a different couple people, but it’s just like you know i put all them in a jug and just juggle it up and you know just come out with just me.
You know what i mean so it’s i don’t.
I don’t try to base myself anyone.
I just try to base myself my best attributes and what i’m good at.
So what’s up speaking of your best, i have tributes uh.
What’S what’s your best punch? What what do you feel is is: is your statement punch probably on my uh, probably my hook and my uppercut? Probably i think so.
Yeah though those are those those ones put them in sleep, eh yeah, the good night punches right, um speaking of speaking of knockouts.
Yes, you’re two and oh with two knockouts, perfect record.
So far um can you can you describe the feeling that comes over you when you, when you knock out your opponent? Oh it’s a great feeling.
Uh i mean i think, like anybody i mean i wouldn’t want the fight to go the whole way if they don’t have to, if i can get them out of here, i’ll get them out of.
But it’s not a rush thing but uh.
But when i, when i know when i finish the guy just so much relief and just you know joy, you know uh today’s error, uh for you to you, know, get to the top and be a big name.
Most time you have to knock out your guys.
You know for you to make a big name and big statement so uh, i’m just gon na continue to knock my opponents out and just keep making it worse and worse.
What a great answer i love it.
I love it so haven um, you have any short term goals.
Where do you see yourself in the next uh six months to maybe the end of next year, uh? So my short term goals in boxing uh this year? I want to get uh b6.
6-0.
It was his knockout six or seven.
No, this is knockout uh by next year.
I want to be on a big, a bit prospect.
You know just continuing to get my name out there and uh, and let people know that you know it’s a new chef in town, the new sheriff in town haven, hitman, brady, that’s it man.
I think he’s gon na get known real well, it will definitely definitely oh you know.
I’Ve told my fight fans about you, man, i’ve told them to lock on, and you know just follow your career man, because you know what you’re about to you’re about to make big waves man.
You know what you finish: fights man and that’s what uh.
That’S what boxing needs man finishers, you know and you definitely you definitely have the uh, the ability to finish man.
Well, what do you want to be known for when you leave this game when you’re, when you’re done, you hang it up, and you know you put your university and college degrees to to work and you know you’re finished with the sport.
What do you want to be known for your legacy? Uh all around want to be known as a good role model and and someone who influenced other fighters and other people.
You know in the world just not in the boxing world, but all all around and uh.
I want to you know: baby contribute to people and definitely kids uh.
I think kids helping kids out and helping people out.
It’S like that’s like bring a lot of joy to me.
You know just watching you helping people out giving them stuff and giving them advice and motivation and really you know, kind of help hitting them out and turn them to a better person uh.
I want to be a big influencer on people um, and i want to just be one of the greatest that ever ever been in the ring before so, and i also want to be known as a a boxer, a boxer puncher.
You know that you know stay undefeated.
You know a lot of a lot of great punches like mike tyson and stuff they’d be great in the prime, but i guess i think it’s get to the point where they don’t they don’t know to let it go.
You know all the way and they end up losing like that.
So i want to be able, you know, you know, keep my legacy going and you know stay undefeated yeah and you know what bro grow with you like.
Let your game grow, how you grow in aids.
You know so you know, raise your iq, your ring, iq and and stay undefeated right.
You know what it’s it’s it’s a great.
You know it would be a great legacy to leave and you know what you’re you’re just you’re, just starting it man and see what time brings right, um speaking of that um.
What do you believe are some of your strengths that make you excel in your division and as an athlete uh some of my strengths that make me uh.
Let’S make me way more powerful uh.
I could say definitely my strength, i’m very strong to be uh to be a 126er.
My speed between my speed and power, that’s a big attribute and just me being athletic and seeing seeing the fight, you know playing the fight and saying you know seeing things before it happened.
Very very smart ring iq.
Okay, let’s that’s you know, honestly, it’s an ability to have man, you know you are above.
You are a big 126 here man you are, you are, and you know what you’ve had you’ve had heavy hands from from amateur and it shows, with you know, 30 30.
Knockouts as an amateur and you guys are wearing head gear man you got ta put.
You got some punch power man, that’s your damn chair.
What um, what kind of like what kind of daily routines does it? Does it take to gain that kind of strength um? As you know like as a boxer like what kind of like what can you run us through, like like some of your gym, your gym training, some of your power exercises? What that you do to gain your strength, uh? To be honest, i really don’t do nothing for myself.
I think it’s just like something natural.
I always been strong since i just been growing up and i just think a lot of my strengths come from just just being around the house and doing things around the house like since i’ve been young.
I would have been at the event, and you know i always like dessert thing so, like digging shovels raking, i always i’ve been working with my dad since i was young with uh lifting cones and things like that just over time for me being so young, just Lifting heavy stuff trying to keep up with the big guys trying to lift what they live.
So i just think over time when i i started when i was young, so i think over time just built built my strength and always working on things like that.
But it’s not in particular that i do now or that i did back then, just to you know, work on my strength.
I think it’s just something that you know i kind of grew into right, so staying sustained, pretty active all the time outside of boxing um.
If you were to say, get a call, call the fight: how long would it take you from like right now till to be ready to get in the ring and fight? How long would it? How long would you need two weeks at the moment you stayed pretty really two weeks uh just to get my body, you know the you know getting some good good spawn together a couple shark.
I mean i could say two weeks to a month.
You know just so i can get great spawn like i need to, but uh i always stay in shape, uh, i’m kind of like a gym.
I mean i can’t it’s hard to stay out of gym for a couple days.
I mean i mean that’s that’s my this is my job, so i mean – and i just love the sport, so i love being around the gym.
If i’m not working out, i’m trying to help the youth out of doing doing something in the gym that you know help to help other people out.
So i’m always in the gym, uh the longer i might be out of a couple days and that’s hard and that’s on because my coach, you get the itch to go back.
You can’t stay away too long.
It’S your family! It’S your home right, i’m speaking! Speaking of helping out the youth um, do you have any like maybe uh thoughts about? Maybe coaching uh later on.
You know what? Yes, yes, i kind of uh.
That’S that’s one thing i want to do when i retire to uh help, help out and uh probably promote a couple of purple kids coming up and um yeah and be a a great coach outside of you know, being a great fighter, um speaking of that um.
What do you see yourself doing in the next five to ten years? Uh your accomplishments? What do you want to achieve um in the next two to three years? I want to be a world champion at 126.
.
I want to uh unify at 126 and uh, move to 130 and uh.
Try to unify there and just see where my body takes me, because i don’t uh, i don’t know how much bigger i’ll be and i’m so it’s not it’s not a rush or nothing to uh.
You know jump from weight class to weight class, but i’m just trying to keep master weight class by weight class and uh get every bit.
I can right so you so you’re a big 126.
Do you find it like? Do you find it hard to stay? Weight? Is is it uh? Is it hard to cut? No, it’s not hard, i mean once you die and you focus and i think everything is about discipline, so i’m very disciplined.
So i mean it’s not it’s not hard.
Speaking of diet, uh.
What is what does your diet, nutrition plan kind of look like uh coming up to a fight? Do you follow like a strict eating plan, or are you still hitting the mcdonald’s? I i’ll leave that long two months out loud since for june 19th, i’ll um i’ve been leaving.
I left fast food alone already, so everything was stripped now all right.
Well, you know what i’m not gon na, keep it too much longer, because i know you’re a really busy man um.
I actually want to ask you one more question: do you want to be loved or feared vote all right all right.
So, honestly, thank you for coming on taking out the time of your busy schedule, man, i know you’re busy man, you don’t juggle in school and fighting yo knuckle up.
