[, Music ]: what up? What up? What up? Welcome to the boxing scorecard, the first one joined by my man, former pro football player, mike carter, um? How you doing! How are you doing good, good good in yourself, good good, so get right into it! So this this uh, this show is specifically going through um the score cards, um of the of the main events, the main attraction for for that night, the main attraction for that night um and then then we’re going from there.
So, starting with the main one thurman and barrios um, oh yeah, and what i’m gon na normally do is go through um like if there was some last night there was no close, close fights, they were all kind of kind of wide marches, because what i’d normally Do is um, give the specific, with the judges specifically had it and then go through what we had it.
But you know they were they’re all kind of wide, but um the thing doesn’t the story, the numbers don’t always tell the tale so thurman and barrios.
I had a specifically 118-110.
I only gave the first two rounds to barrios and then thurman, you know thurman kept it out most.
You know he won one.
Clearly, the interesting actually go ahead.
What was your? What was your scorecard? You? Well, you said you had yeah.
I i keep thurman winning every round every round every round, okay, that some of the rounds weren’t close, but i just feel like keith thurman won every round, but at the same time, even though he won every round that didn’t mean that it wasn’t a hard fight For him, so i thought it was a very, very tough fight for him, uh in the sense that he got hurt a few times he was winded.
Uh looked like at some points.
He could be susceptible to other fighters.
I wasn’t just looking at mario barrios.
I was looking at him fighting the parents crawford’s the earl spence, the uh bhutanese those guys and even tank now, when you think about those fights, though, specifically about the scorecard of those fights, do you think those fights would be ending in in you know, by tko, Before the end of the fight, or do you think those fights would be going the distance because go ahead, say what you’re going to say? First and then i’ll add my two cents and i think that uh, all those fights end before uh 12th round um.
I think i think we know that uh.
Obviously i’m a big tennis conference fan but terence crawford is definitely a killer.
If he hurts you, it’s going to be a problem, earl expense to the body he’s relentless with this attack.
Now that’s the first spence before the car accident.
We don’t know how he’s going to be um coming back, but he was a offensive juggernaut, so yeah um and ron blue tennis.
We, like you, say all the time.
Yes, those guys have been doing that, but he looks really really good.
Now, coming back coming back to this fight with thurman and barrios um, again we had thurman winning the whole way through, but specifically round uh, seven, eight and nine.
I clearly had.
I clearly had um well, i’m not sorry not clearly and the reason why i’m bringing up those specific rounds.
Seven, eight nine is because i scored them for thurman ten nine, but they were still close rounds.
Um.
You know uh um, you can see uh.
I guess it was the uh.
You know he thurman used to call himself one time, because he you know had that one punch power so at the time that he was hurting barrios, it was that was off of one shot right.
It was off of one shot, not not a real combination, so he still has that power um, but well questionable power because uh we got jumping in that we got jumping in there quest questionable power because barrios was still was still coming forward there.
He is now ronnie ronnie what up what up? What up my next, my next champions coming up here.
You scored the fight you scored barrios in third yeah yep.
I had only one one round, though you only gave barrios one round, which round was that.
I think it was round six yeah, yeah, okay, okay, okay, so yeah pitching a shout out too um what uh? What what did you think, even though that we were just saying, even though you know thurman clearly won um, you know, even the later rounds burials was still making a good case for himself coming forward.
What did you think of barrios’s performance, or just in general, as far as scoring the fight did, could you could you see there was a couple of uh close rounds in the later rounds? Oh he’s, cutting up, oh ells is in the building.
We can hear you.
We can hear you clearly we got mike in here.
We got ronnie.
Here too.
I can’t hear you now yeah.
Yes, that’s, muted, okay, okay, go ahead! Talk.
We can hear you randy what up? What up just turn the volume up turn your volume up.
Just a little bit from where yes, sir, yes, sir, yes, sir, you got a chance to score the fight which one uh thurman and barrios.
Yes, i did um the [ __ ] was my scorecard.
I think i had it uh one yeah 118.
110.
I did have, i think i had the same scorecard.
You did 118 110.
I gave uh.
I gave uh barrios one of the first two rounds.
One of the first two rounds close but uh, uh keith did his thing.
You know what i mean he did.
What we were just saying we were just saying is that, even though you know even in the later rounds, even though key cleath was uh, we had clearly reading, i was i was talking about specifically around seven eight and nine.
I scored them for keith, but burials it was they were.
They were close rounds like it.
You know it could have went um you know could have slightly went either way, even though i still scored it, scored it for thurman.
What do you think about that yeah? I got a boat, i think i think i might have gave i gave borrows.
I think, maybe the one or two one or two of the first or something like that.
I could be wrong.
I guess i know i gave him.
I know i gave him money.
Two rounds in the later at the second half of the fight, but yeah.
I agree with you that there are a couple close rounds.
Um specifically, i got to give a shout out to randy because he’s the one that told me about about this app called judgepad.
It’S specifically on on on iphones um.
You know, there’s a million different boxing apps out there, but the reason why and thanks again randy for for putting me on to this, the judge.
The reason why this one, i think is the best one is because the specific features that you have in it um there’s there’s an option like you score the score the round and there’s an option just to click, a button to write some quick notes in between Round, like that’s exactly it to remind you specifically, why you know you, you gave it to one guy or another, and there’s also a button, just one button that you can press that turns red uh um just to indicate it was a close round right, because a Lot of times again the the the scorecard you know the scorecard doesn’t tell the whole story of the fight.
Like you said, clear, keith thurman clearly won the whole fight last night, but at the end of the fight his face was still marked up.
You know i’m saying still yeah, yeah and stuff like that.
So speaking of marked up barrios, look like the elephant, man yeah, yeah yeah, you can see his his nose was uh.
Oh, my goodness was seriously swelled up well seriously swelled up from there um uh.
Did you guys score any of the other fights? Oh, that last fight the rod? I i scored the rodriguez and um oh shoot.
No, i missed that one i got to go through back the roger you get some quadriceps fight.
That was a banger mike.
Did you see that one nope and the new and the new um rodriguez uh impressive, i’m impressed with him timeout? Did you score, though yeah we’ll just score it? I scored it 116.
1, 11.
, okay, okay, okay, uh for rodriguez uh! You guys get a chance to look at him.
He’S got great footwork he’s got he’s, got footwork how he gets inside and gives you that little that little um uh right uppercutter, like he’s he’s, got footwork along the lines of lomanchenko.
Trust me on this now real quick.
Just to give you a scorecard again uh you had uh, it was cuadras that you had winning.
No, i had rodriguez up rodriguez rodriguez won.
I had him up.
I had him 116.
110.
116, ten, so yeah, 117.
110.
115.
112 in that area, but unanimous he won the fight.
Okay, okay, okay, um, all right all right! What’S the next step, what is the next step? Real, quick um? I want you, i’m gon na i’m gon na be talking about the scorecards for uh for eubanks, junior and clarissa shields and stuff.
Oh yeah, yeah you’re fighting for that.
I know mike you can stay out or hop off if you wan na, if you wan na or give your two cents i’d love to have your two cents on the fight still, even if you didn’t score them um.
But if you got to go, you got to go um the night we had uh.
Let me pull up my other score card uh, the cold main event.
You see santa cruz and carbo hall, yeah yeah, yeah yeah.
I do have to go that one again.
Um again carbohy for you for the people listening right now is his um.
His uncle is michael carperhall, one yeah fighters from the 80s yeah um, so uh, i’m not sure.
If they’re trying to use the carbohydrate name like how they kind of use uh the nico walt the nico ali name, i know that’s one of randy’s favorite fighter right now that dude, don’t if that dude, don’t stop i’m playing i’m playing um but um.
As far as the scorecard another wide score card on on on santa cruz, i don’t know why i must have deleted it by accident.
I thought i was going to pull it up, but that was another wide score card for santa cruz and carbohyl um.
What do you guys think next is is for santa cruz, though um i believe that was at 135, because again he you can’t beat him at his game.
Even though he’s a tall long fighter he likes to fight on the inside, especially with his body work.
You know that’s carbohydrate was trying to match him with the body work, but he you know he just without you know you can’t yo yo yo, um, cedric yeah.
What up um i got ta get out the phone right now touch base with my bad sparks.
Is here saying, what’s up all right, all right all right what up what up? What up all right? Later, though, all right all right, um and then the other, the other uh fight that i had going so eubanks you, you didn’t see the fight, but you know you’ve seen eubanks fight before right.
I think he stopped him if i’m not mistaken uh.
No, it went the distance him and uh eubanks, jr and williams.
They went the distance, but this is the thing, though um another fight, that was, that was wide margin, um, that i i had it 117 to 108 for for eubanks, junior and um the only rounds.
I gave to williams, there was a couple of ten eight rounds um in the early fights like he dropped them about three times.
That’S what they’re doing in um within the first five rounds – and this is the thing – and this is what i want to get into eubanks – has been training with roy jones jr um.
For a couple of fights now – and i have to be careful when i say this because i’m not you know nobody can imitate roy jones, nobody can imitate.
You know what he did um, but i definitely can see a few things that eubank jr has got from from roy jones.
You know um shout out to my boys um from uh from the last bell boxing show in the uk.
They were talking about this.
I’M sorry i couldn’t hop on their show last night, but they were talking about this and uh um and just in general, you know, a lot of people are saying that you know eubanks and style.
Trying to copy roy jones is not good for him.
I don’t know i’m one of the only people, i’m curious, to know what your your thoughts on this too.
I believe the way he’s fighting now is is better for him, as opposed to this, the street fighting style that he was doing before, because the way that he dropped williams in those first couple of rounds was by it was by a jab and not just the Jab, but the way he was throwing it like he’s, throwing it exactly the way roy would like throwing a couple of fakes first and then popping it out there and then turning the jab into a hook, um exactly the way that that roy jones would do it.
So again, i’m not saying he’s the next roy jones he’s already.
You know halfway through his career, but that that specific part that he that he’s adapted from roy jones is can help him at the top level.
The only the only thing that he that he, that um he needs to um improve on, obviously, is he can’t he can’t keep his hands down like roy jones.
You know it doesn’t have that that the head movement from there uh? What do you think about that? Like so um, i’m i’m a big believer of if it works for you and you could get it done that way.
Okay, i think a lot of people nowadays don’t want people to emulate people.
Everybody says it’s copying this and that, but if you’re saying see, i didn’t i didn’t get to see the fight, but if you’re saying that he’s fighting like groin he’s winning and obviously he needs defense, everybody knows that roy was winning.
Not only was he an exceptional athlete, he was a good boxer out of power, but over his athletics.
So if eubanks jr isn’t as athletic or more athletic than everybody else, it might be a problem.
He roy jones wasn’t the most technical fighter.
In my opinion, let me not say is i i want you to say what you think, but i don’t think he was super technical, like floyd, but his biggest asset was.
He was more explosive, more athletic than everybody else.
Roy jones jr’s uh uh stylist very, very hard to emulate man.
Yeah yeah, as i said you know, as i say all the time you want to you want to master the fundamentals before you do the advanced stuff.
You know obviously roy jones.
He mastered the fundamentals as a kid before he used.
He relied on his on his athleticism.
Banks doesn’t have that natural athleticism so that the number one thing he’s gon na have to improve on is not giving he’s not gon na be able to keep his hands down like that with the top level.
Guys because, specifically going to my scorecard um, i had um, i actually gave williams round eight and nine and i didn’t even score them as close rounds like i had williams, clearly winning those two rounds just because he was getting bombed, eubanks, not bond, but williams landing.
Some some good right hands that was making eubanks’s head like like snap back like they were clearly hard right hands, and obviously you know if um canelo or one of them guys touching one of those might be a different story.
But again the way again.
You know i’m not saying whatever, but canelo you know has a little bit of trouble with with boxers.
Just the way eubanks was using, his jab might give him give him some trouble just going off of that so um yeah yeah.
That was my thoughts on that.
I like, if he’s, if he’s incorporating new things and he’s getting better, of course, because that’s the thing everybody doesn’t understand that you want to be able to uh, adapt and pick up little nuances of different people’s styles and stuff and if it works for you, keep It if it doesn’t throw it out right exactly exactly um yeah yeah yeah shout out to a chic sniping or dusty man from yeah we’re from canada, but we’re international when it comes to boxing knowledge.
You know what i’m saying: um last fight, i’m gon na go through um clarissa shields, one of the greatest boxers ever um and her opponent uh cozen.
This was a uh.
I guess a showcase fight for it.
For for this, for the sebastian savannah marshall showdown clarissa won every round.
Again, usually i would name you know, give the score cards from the specific judges but clear so clearly what every round um was looking to stop her.
You know, i would think the referee or her coaches could have threw in a towel at some point in time, but you know she she hung in there um.
But the main thing is, i definitely you know she came there and fought in in the uk in front of the crowd to get more exposure for for savannah marshall, who i believe, i’m just predicting right now that that uh clarissa will win, because i you know Servant her whole career.
This girl has been off of beating clerics in the amateurs years ago.
Even her promoter on the when they’re on the mic yesterday said, uh clarissa has one loss on her record talking about some, you know amateur and you know she’s undefeated.
Clearly, undefeated as a pro um anyways, my scorp, my prediction scorecard for savannah marshall and clarissa shields would be uh, not a shutout for clarissa shields, but i’m predicting you not a unanimous win because of because of she has the skills and the power.
That’S the things clara says the skills and the power a lot of just females in general at the top level.
They you know, that’s that’s the difference.
You got the skills and the power so serrano um anyway i’ll get into that prediction.
Another time but uh serrano and taylor, i’m predicting serrano, because she has the skills and the power um anyways, going back to shields and uh kozin.
What’S your thoughts on that or clarissa in general? I think clarissa shields is a tremendous fighter.
I feel like people don’t give her flowers um uh, going up and down in weight to try to fight everybody.
Yes, yeah yeah, definitely she’s an animal she’s, a student of the game.
She has offense defense, good, head movement, um.
She even went into ufc.
I understand it’s not the ufc but she’s a true competitor and and eat that someone that compete, i’m all for.
I think she she’s.
If, if we’re doing things the right way, she would definitely be in pound per pound, mm-hmm and or women.
I’M not saying she would be first, but she definitely has to be in that conversations for for what she’s doing to her competition, so yeah yeah yeah, all right man, there you have it for the epic first episode of the boxing scorecard um.
