How are you yeah one sec, one sec, hello, welcome once again talking five fans to another episode of neil the deal featuring neil the deal himself tonight.
We want to go back a few episodes and remind everyone that we’re doing an episode on detroit.
I happen to mention jonathan banks, neil i’m leaving jonathan banks in your good hands.
Thank you very much.
Graham sorry, guys just give me a quick sec here, uh.
Yes, we were talking about jonathan banks.
The other day we were that’s correct.
I thought i was going to be going solo tonight, but uh we did find you, so i hope you uh you’re all right and everything’s working out okay over there.
Graham, yes, also guys sorry for our tardiness, so to speak.
But yes, we were going to uh talk a little bit about a guy who we did do the boxers of detroit, which i thoroughly enjoyed.
Obviously but uh.
We we kind of talked about well greater mentioned them, and then i didn’t really.
You know uh talk about this individual, this boxer, so i think we’ll talk about him tonight.
We should add him to the detroit list because he’s a very influential guy uh going forward right now, he’s very uh he’s he’s doing a great job, so graham we’re gon na talk about um, mr banks, jonathan banks, so jonathan was uh, born jonathan mori spanx, guys And thank you very much for uh.
Coming out, really appreciate it nice to see you again uh.
He was born june 22nd, 1982 in southfield michigan.
That would make him 38 years old right now, so he’s still a very young man uh in his career.
He was obviously had a a very good career uh.
He was fighting in the heavyweight division as well as the cruiserweight division.
Now we’re gon na go into this a little later, but he trained out of the cronk gym in detroit under the uh tulig of emmanuel.
Stewart so we’ve talked about emmanuel stewart quite a number of times.
He gets a lot of recognition around the the boxing community from all fighters, trainers, commentators uh.
He was a commentator himself for quite a number of years and uh.
You know i’ll, never forget him.
He was, and not none of these boxers who ever went to cronk jim, will ever or know what they just don’t forget him he’s not he his training abilities have gone farther and farther and will year after year, because he was so influential uh over the years.
Um training, the guys and uh.
You know he.
He really got a lot of respect and he still does so.
God bless him.
So the greatest thing about jonathan banks was that i, i guess mr stewart um saw a real talent of other fighters.
So apparently i finished his career, he decided to uh become a trainer and he is now the head trainer, okay at the cronk gym as we speak in detroit.
So, as far as getting a job as a trainer, that’s probably the biggest job you’re going to get, and you know you’re you’re having to follow your mentor and idol.
You know jonathan, i’m sure, like everything he knows.
I can tell you, probably you know most of it anyways, so it’s really nice to see that he’s uh he’s decided to keep mr uh stewart’s legacy alive and well and he’s been um he’s been training some serious boxers over the last few years.
So excuse me the guys that i know of especially the guys right now that he trained uh one big one was a vladimir klitschko.
So one of the klitschko brothers he was training him.
I believe he he might still train him.
That would be excuse me.
That could be a question for jonathan right, so i mean i we don’t exactly know i mean we know you have we.
I really haven’t seen vladimir fight in a few years, but we know he’s also presently.
Okay right now he is training uh kennedy.
Golovkin.
Do you know? Golokan is a gram triple g yeah, triple g, exactly triple g, so um, i believe, he’s uh.
Mr banks is star uh pupil right now, and i’ve seen golokan play uh fight a bunch of times and he is really good like he is really good.
So he’s been in some big time, serious fights in the last couple of years and we’re going to start talking a little more about the uh, the newer guys and the guys you know, moving forward we’re gon na start moving into some of the the newer fighters And what’s going on at present time, so he’ll be one we’ll probably be talking about quite a bit.
He also presently is uh training.
I believe a guy named badoo jack, graham so yeah yeah yeah.
He he’s training, batu jack as well.
We’Ve talked about that individual he’s.
I’Ve seen him fight this year, uh already and he’s a real serious guy, so he’s definitely um he’s.
Definitely uh.
You know involved with some of the biggest names in the world.
Jonathan is – and i understand i i believe, is it it’s badou jack who’s.
Jean pascal, we had talked about john pascal and with troy ross.
I believe it was troy ross.
That’S right! That’S right! Yeah! That’S going to be the rematch coming up.
I believe it’s a rematch between john pascal and battery jack and i think that john pascal won the first one, if i’m not mistaken so as far as that, maybe that’s something you guys can clarify for me.
You know, but i do understand that uh, that he does jonathan does train battery jack.
So when he was an amateur, he was a three-time national amateur champion at 178 pounds which would be cruiserweight.
So i believe that would probably be his natural weight if he was fighting as an amateur as a cruiserweight.
That’S naturally why he went into a pro career in cruiserweight and then did i believe, fight a few fights i guess at heavyweight.
If he couldn’t make the cruiserweight limit.
He wasn’t.
You know he he kind of, but i believe, he’s a more of a cruiserweight by by size natural size.
So you know any way you look at it.
Those are big guys right.
So so we’ll talk about you know what i mean like hey cram.
You know what you just don’t want these guys getting upset at you.
You know what i mean because you’ll probably end up in a coma or you know you definitely won’t be.
You know you don’t want to be eating out of a straw for six months.
Put it that way, that’s right! That’S right! You know so so anyways he had a great pro career, we’re going to talk about his numbers for his pro career, so he had 33 fights, total fights and uh.
He had 29 wins, graham out of 33 fights.
So that’s a really that’s really good uh.
He only had three losses with the one draw.
He had 19 kos all right, so that gives him a ko percentage of 57.
So pretty damn good i’ll.
Tell you that much so he did really well.
Obviously, 29 wins out of 33 fights, that’s a fantastic career uh.
He decided, i guess to retire in 2014.
, so he’s been retired for seven years now, uh and he’s been training fighters.
I i’m assuming since then um a big his on his uh notable fights, because he did have some some pretty good fights.
I watched a couple of them uh today and they were really good, so the first one i liked was uh was jonathan banks versus vincenzo rocito july 12th, uh 2008.
That was a win.
He won majority decision and that was uh.
I believe for the ibo championship of the world, all right, so we’ll go through the belts that he held too in a bit but another another fight that i liked was um was jonathan banks against uh, derek brown.
That was a really good one.
It was a 12-round win for him, that was for the n-a-b-o cruiserweight title, which he won.
Mr banks, congratulations on that win, so he’s won the ibo title.
He’S won the nabo title then at some point there uh november 12, 2012.
So he’s moving up the ladder there.
He, mr mr banks, was fighting a guy named seth mitchell and he won the uh, the wbc heavyweight title against that individual.
So i was like wow okay, then he uh, then he fought mitchell again, which was unanimous loss, uh and uh.
So it kind of went up and down.
I guess for him he had the nabo, he had the ivf, he the ibo and the nabo and the wbc.
So he’s had a lot of titles.
So, as far as i know, he had the ibo cruiserweight title from 08 to 09.
.
He had the nabf heavyweight title: he had the ibf heavyweight title, the nabo world, cruiserweight title and uh.
That’S pretty serious stuff! That’S four world titles! So he’s he’s done really well over his career and again he’s he’s continually giving back to the boxing community, which is fantastic and um.
He gets a lot of credit around the world for the uh for the work that he does for all the fighters.
And again, i know for a fact that he’s really applying what he learned uh from mr stewart back in the day which which propelled his career and is now continually propelling the younger guys careers as we speak, so hey what else you know what else do you? What else can you say thanks a lot? Uh jonathan really appreciate it.
Man uh watching your fighters is fantastic and uh.
Thanks for the great career, by the way, that’s freaking awesome.
So guys you want to look up uh jonathan banks and check out some of his fights or look up some of his uh fighters that he trains go for it.
This guy is like a real serious cat out of detroit, so got ta like him.
Hey graham got ta like guys like that, giving it back to the to the people.
You know on every level yeah i do like it and he is uh he’s a great guy and a great fighter.
Uh great trainer uh really committed uh not only to the sport of boxing but to the community, so uh kudos for him kudos for you for bringing him up and uh.
I hope we do hear from him in the near future for sure.
Well guys.
That would thank you, graeme, yes, exactly for sure uh.
He basically he’s touched to all levels of life with with his life, so be fantastic to to meet him someday.
Have him out on the show, or you know, have a phone in whatever it may be.
Whatever you know, whatever, whatever would be, it’d be fantastic.
You know, love to talk to him um and best of luck to you, uh jonathan, with the upcoming fights, with all your guys and uh.
You know the way i see it.
I think they’ll do just fine.
You know got a good coach there, so you know can’t blame the coach [ Laughter ].
You know you know so so yeah thanks again, jonathan uh, take care of yourself, take care of your uh your stuff and be safe out there you’re traveling around the world.
So be safe man all right.
So, graham thanks again for having me out tonight and uh, i guess we’ll see tomorrow night, graham around the same time, seven o’clock guys seven o’clock.
Thank you very much appreciate it.
Yeah seven o’clock tomorrow.
