Hello, there talk and fight fans welcome once again to another episode of neil the deal thanks very much for joining us.
We’Ve got a special episode lined up for you donovan razor ruddock.
Thanks very much neil i’ve got to jump off uh for a business meeting, but i’ll leave it to you good evening.
Graham, thank you very much for the intro.
That was really nice.
Thanks buddy, i understand you got to go and uh.
You got a meeting, so business is business and that’s what you got to do so, how you doing everybody out there tonight we’re uh we’re going to be talking a little bit about this guy, a canadian heavyweight, a real monster of a canadian heavyweight back in the Day i watched numbers of his fights.
He was on some really big cards.
He was a a fantastic fighter.
First of all and he’s a really good guy and, like graham said, we’re going to talk about donovan razor radic.
Now guys.
I just want to say thanks again for everything: everything’s been going great, all the likes.
The shares the comments, all the uh, all the support, the subscriptions going so we’re doing well together.
I want to thank you again and keep them coming.
Just keep them coming.
Just keep them coming, keep them coming.
You know what i’m saying all right, so we’re going to talk about mr ruddick this evening he’s a canadian heavyweight.
He was born december 21st 1963, which makes him 57 years old, saint catherine parish, jamaica.
He was born in jamaica, but emigrated to canada or immigrated to canada uh later on in life.
So he was about 11 years old.
I think 10, 11 years old and he immigrated here to toronto.
Canada actually uh.
He his career was very long actually guys.
He he fought from 1982 to uh 2001, so that is a huge career.
It’S like 19 years or something like that.
So he fought for a long time and, like i said, i watched him donovan if you’re out there you’re out there donovan, i want to say buddy thanks a lot.
You were amazing and uh thanks a lot for the great fights man over the years.
Oh, my god, you you were amazing.
You gave us all kinds of entertainment.
The punching power you had was unbelievable.
You had that uh classic smash punch right, the uh, your smash and that’s basically, how you used to take him out right.
He used to take him out with this specific punch and it was a left hook, i believe, with a left, uppercut or an uppercut with a left hook.
It was a really devastating uh punch and he put a lot of lights out with that one so got ta, say: donovan boom thanks brother, that’s freaking out of control.
So he came to canada when he was 11 years old and uh.
He had a pretty illustrious amateur career as well.
He uh he actually beat lennox lewis in 1980 at the ontario junior boxing championships, so that in itself is quite an accomplishment because we all know who mr lennox lewis is probably canada’s number one all-time heavyweight, uh disputable with maybe george chavallo, but that’s basically the two Guys and then razer razer comes in definitely at a number three.
You know what i’m saying.
So he was amazing, so guys you should check out some of his fights.
We’Re gon na go over that in a little bit and we’re gon na uh give you some notables and you can check them out and he had some fantastic fights.
So he had an amateur career yeah.
He had uh.
Well, he turned pro and then he had 47 wins, i’m sorry, 47 fights with 40 wins 30 knockouts six losses and one drop.
So let’s go through that again, i kind of messed that up total fights.
47 wins were 40.
30 ko’s six losses in one drop.
So he had a a wicked record.
He was awesome.
I mean 30 ko’s out of 40 wins that’ll.
Tell you how much punching power he had one of the best punchers in the heavyweight division of all time.
He turned pro in 1982 and he had a slow start with only 11 fights between uh, 82 and 9 and 85.
So three years for three years, he he was kind of just starting out.
I guess doing uh doing a lot of training.
A lot of learning stuff of that sort to uh hone his craft so to speak and uh.
He won eight out of those nine but uh the fifth fight he he was he was he got a draw.
So that’s where his draw came from that one draw was in his fifth professional fight, so you know it happens right.
You can’t win them all.
I guess you try, but what are you gon na do so in 85 he lost to a journeyman named david jocko.
After eight rounds, his corner threw in the towel apparently uh, because he was complaining of breathing problems to the to the corner during the fight.
So he didn’t, he didn’t lose the fight technically, he just he was sick so and he wasn’t at his the top of his game.
So i guess he.
It was better for his his health interests at that point to uh throw in the towel.
So that was considered a loss.
When really i wouldn’t consider that a loss, i would consider that a uh save a life.
You know that’s what you got to do.
If there’s an issue in the ring, you don’t feel like you’re capable of going on you guys.
All know you need to uh.
Just you know your family and your health and everything is much more important than a boxing match.
So razer, that’s uh! That’S how all of a decision you guys made there and after the fight he was diagnosed with a respiratory illness and the doctors apparently told him that he wasn’t going to fight anymore.
Well, that i don’t think that went over very well with him.
So he didn’t.
He didn’t listen to those doctors, that’s for sure, because he just kept going he’s a he’s, a fighter he’s not a quitter.
Nobody likes a quitter, you know what i mean he likes quitters uh after that he reeled off nine straight wins and he uh, which included the canadian heavyweight championship.
So he took the canadian heavyweight belt within that time, and that was in her 1988.
.
There was a title about that was um scheduled around that time.
A title belt was scheduled with the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world mike tyson in november 89 in edmonton alberta, but tyson claimed illness.
At that time he claimed he was probably doing whatever he was doing in those days and he wasn’t feeling well, as we all know, and instead opted to uh tyson opted to uh in the end fight buster douglas, and we all know how that went.
There hey mike yeah yeah, tried to duck our boy yeah, you ducked him, and then you, then you got dummied.
If you know what i mean.
So that’s what happens when you duck and run [ __ ] happens and that’s what happened so that was in tokyo with buster douglas, and that was probably if i would think i would say that was probably the biggest upset in boxing history buster douglas beating mike Tyson in tokyo i was just like – i was completely floored by that i was like whoa.
I.
I can’t even believe that that happened, but apparently tyson was just partying and drinking and he was hanging out with the girls and he didn’t even train yeah.
In those days he just said, i’m not even gon na train, don’t need to this guy.
I don’t need to train for him, but he found out.
He certainly needed to train so we’re going to talk about some of uh donovan’s notable fights ones that i’ve seen that i enjoyed uh thoroughly.
He was amazing in all of them.
You didn’t win them all, but i’ll tell you that guy man donovan, you have got a heart.
You have got the power, the mental capacity i’ve seen him get up off the canvas many times and beat guys i’ve seen him take some of the biggest punches of all time and uh hey he’s he just kept going and going so.
I got to thank you.
Donovan and if you ever want to come out there guys, if you guys, can make some uh comments about bringing donovan out on the show.
Mr ruddick, if he’s around anywhere, if you’re watching or any of his buddies, are watching love to have you out here, bud you’re uh you’re, one of the best the country ever had.
We all love you, man, you’re, awesome, so uh we’ll talk about some of your fights that i saw guys.
You guys should check these ones out.
We’Re all canadians and he’s a he’s, an amazing fighter, so check these fights out uh.
He fought mike tyson uh march 18th 1990, and that was a a loss, tko loss.
He fought uh lennox lewis, and that was a lost second round ko uh.
There was a rematch with tyson uh june 28 1991.
That was a loss, 12-round unanimous decision uh.
He fought michael doakes, where there was a situation where, if you guys check out the michael doakes uh razor fight, he hits him with the smash punch and honestly, it’s probably the hardest punch ever laid on a man in any match that i’ve ever seen so check That one out guys razer ruddock versus michael doakes, that will you will see some power out of the razor man that you probably would have never seen out of anybody else, not even tyson.
It’S it’s a hell of a punch.
Then he uh he another notable fight was tommy morrison again.
Unfortunately, it was a loss, six round, tko um, but it was really controversial and controversial uh.
That fight was terrible.
I watched all those fights that was terrible.
He got totally robbed that if you guys watch that fight tommy morrison raise erotic, i’m telling you razor.
That was terrible.
It’S a disgrace to boxing when they do that kind of stuff and they got to cut that stuff out of the game.
Like finished done like when vince carter, slam dunk competition, you’re finished, that’s it you’re done with that kind of stuff, because guys, like him, train hard work, hard, give us the entertainment we want and then it’s stolen and that’s not that’s not right, so anyways guys.
He had a bunch of losses in some of the bigger fights, but they were fantastic fights and he had lots of fights that were were wins, obviously, uh just crazy.
So if you’re out there buddy check us out neil the deal uh, he also back in the day in around 95 uh, he won when he won that canadian championship.
It was against uh, eggerton, marcus in october 2001.
.
So edgarton.
How are you buddy, if you’re out there, i hope to see you soon man? I understand you actually fought this guy, so that would be interesting to talk about that fight with you, um so yeah that that’s something we could talk about.
If you decide to come on on the on the biggest show and sporting news, history sees kneel the deal all right.
So on march 28, 2015 uh radick returned into the ring with a fifth round kale.
It was of my buddy and uh talk and fight host ebola.
Yes, bowler ray our host polar ray, actually fought, mr ruddock, hey ray.
How are you bro? I love you man, i don’t know what happened.
Maybe you can talk about that on your show.
I wasn’t there, i didn’t see it, but apparently i guess razer got the best of you that day, maybe you’ll.
Let us know how that went and it was a sad day for ruddock uh, sorry a sad day for ray, obviously, because i i’m sure he’s friends with erotic those guys are probably buddies.
You know they i’m sure they are so uh, maybe he’ll.
You can elaborate.
A little bit more on that uh, ray bola ray, be uh, be cool, be cool to hear that so we’re going to go over some of his accolades.
He did get quite a number of them.
Uh ruddock was ranked number seven by ring magazine list of top 100 greatest punchers of all time, so he’s number seven greatest puncher that’ll tell you of all time, whoa and uh.
The one thing that’s happened to him.
I i understand is he’s been having some hardships since his retirement and uh we’re wishing him the best here over the neil deal show so razer.
If there’s anything, we can do to help we’re always here for you buddy.
We love you you’re, an awesome, dude you’re, one of the best canadian heavyweights ever you’ll, never be forgotten thanks a lot for coming out watching the show talkingfight.
