That’S what i’m going to start saying: welcome knockout fans to another wonderful installment of the prestigious knockout of the week award, hosted by myself, mike orr and cedric ben mr strength and conditioning what what what brilliant fights this weekend lots of cards to talk about yeah um, The winner, the winner winner winner chicken dinner of our prestigious knockout of the week award, has to go to our man anthony drum it was beautiful man.

It was beautiful, the the uppercut ko um and and the degree of difficulty, because it’s one thing to to knock a person out from a distance with long straight punches like how how perfectly uh zepeda did it.

Last week against his opponent, um for the uppercut or hook, you have to be that much closer to the person.

The more close you are to the person, the more risk that you’re taking of getting hit, also um, so so.

For that reason, yeah definitely definitely yeah.

Obviously i watched you know hernandez, threw out two lazy jabs.

He was gon na, follow it in with that right setting it up.

You know going to set up that right and he just walked in to an uppercut from hellman that came from downstairs.

I swear if he swung any lower, he would.

He would have swept the mat on the way up there.

That thing was so brilliant.

The snap head, you know the head snap right back and again another reason why it’s riskier throwing that punch because um, especially you, throw an uppercut if you miss that punch you’re, leaving yourself so wide open your face is open.

Your body is open just off the top of my head.

Anybody you can you can real, quick, google um when buster douglas fought evander holyfield, he threw an uppercut and missed it and then holyfield landed, and it was a good night after that.

So that’s the risk that you’re taking when you’re trying to land that uh that uppercut um so again, the the the accuracy of the accuracy of it.

Because again, the chin is not that big.

That bull’s-eye is not that big, especially when someone is coming at you with both hands.

You have to figure a way how to how to you know dodge that and then yeah yeah yeah yeah.

So you know like with this.

It was awesome uh.

You know great.

First three rounds and then darrell just came out in that fourth 22 seconds is the time stamp of the fourth round and he just connects with this hellish uppercut yeah.

Oh honestly, honestly, it’s a hard move to pull off uh.

It shows that anthony darrell, the dog, is still in the fight he’s still in the fight.

So you know the man, i believe, he’s 37 years old, now um, you know and he’s showing showing no signs of slowing down man after a fight like that man, 37 years young, because i i didn’t realize that until you just said that he started living wow Yeah he’s uh he’s he’s up there.

Man he’s an old guy he’s 37.

You know he’s ranked uh 15th out of 1168 in the super middle division, he’s ranked six out of 217 uh in in the united states.

You know and uh last night.

He definitely used that 74 and a half inch reach to his advantage.

Uh shout out to anthony darrell the dog coming through that brilliant, quick, quick side.

Note i appreciate when guys you know, put a little bit of effort into their into their their shorts and gloves.

Um darrell he’s from flint michigan, and so he was representing the the michigan state, uh spartans colors.

You know i’m a michigan wolverines guy still i still like the michigan states, the the spurn.

So i thought that was pretty cool.

Definitely yeah, yeah um! So this card this card was this card was brilliant, though man uh, we got to talk about it, um, first fight on the card that uh last night we had um elvis rodriguez and juan pablo romero, uh elvis rodriguez.

I’Ve been i’ve been on this kid.

I’Ve been watching him for a time now, uh he’s coming off of.

He was coming off of a loss uh recently against um uh.

It was uh kenneth, sims, jr back in may 22nd and uh yo.

He bounced back with a wonderful fifth round, knockout of juan pablo romero last night, let’s open up the card and uh that was another.

That was another brilliant one uh, just not as good as our man, the dog yeah yeah yeah.

He um.

That’S i i i missed that first fight and they did it to end it.

It didn’t, go the distance right.

No, no! So what happened was uh romero was down in round four and then round five.

He was counted out like it was.

It was a quick finish: man, uh, elvis rodriguez, bouncing back uh.

You know doing it big now he’s improved to 12 1-1 uh.

You know and it’s hard when you’re undefeated, you know sitting at 11 0 and one and uh you know picking up your first loss.

Uh this far into your career uh.

You know it takes a lot to bounce back from that uh.

You know my show shout out to this kid.

Uh comes back, you know 25 years old and does it in a great a great uh.

You know knockout fashion man to uh to bounce back from that loss.

Man he’s only 25 years old, so still lots of lots of times.

Uh lots, lots and lots of time to go.

Um.

Also on this card man, um wasn’t a knockout went the distance but uh.

I got to give a shout out.

Man uh ray vargas, ray vargas, uh, baez, leonardo baez, yes, great fight, uh, it was unanimous decision, ten rounds, uh ray vargas.

I believe he was uh.

Uh inactive for uh two years, man out of the ring for two years, the last fight that he had was against about to say.

I can’t remember the last time i uh saw him fight so before yeah yeah before code we’re looking at um.

I believe it was well, it was back in 2019, it was july 13th.

Uh 2019 is the last time he was in the ring, and that was a unanimous decision win over tomoki, uh, kamida and uh.

You know what he came back last night.

A lot of people worried about seeing ring rust, but uh this five ten seventeen and a half inch reach uh.

You know featherweight, he made it look.

He made it look like a clinic last night, man, yeah uh, definitely definitely putting together some great combos.

You know uh, i i was impressed.

I was impressed to see ray vargas the way he looked last night um.

You know he’s announced today that he’s hoping his next fight is for the featherweight world.

Title man and honestly at uh at 30, had now improved to 35-0 with 22 knockouts.

It might be about time he’s ranked third of 1202 in the world in the feather division and he’s ranked second out of 251 in mexico.

So you know what maybe it is about time that we give this guy a chance to uh fight for a belt.

He really made uh.

You know he made it look great last night man, he definitely definitely went all the way, all the distance and uh and yo he put on the show yeah.

Then, after that we have, you know we’re gon na talk about it.

Canelo we got ta.

Tell you hello, canelo is the other knockout on this card.

King canelo yo man canelo coming through.

I called that one.

I believe i called that one last night for a seventh round.

Uh finish.

I know i know you had your uh, your predictions of going.

The distance and taking it on points uh, i believe, like i, was watching the unofficial scorecard.

I don’t believe they gave uh plant the rounds that they deserve.

That was bull crap.

That was that um.

I i really cannot see how they didn’t give plant more rounds.

That was that was.

I was very disappointed when i saw those uh those scorecards um.

Yes, canelo was the one coming forward, but a lot of the time it was was not effective aggression.

It was just aggression, um, pure frustration plant.

I think plant did a good job of uh of of applying the mayweather, the mayweather style defense um.

He showed that he wasn’t afraid he stayed in the pocket, yeah um for a lot of the times and um.

This is the the kind of sad thing is.

Is that people aren’t going to remember the good things all people all people remember is: is the highlight knockout yeah the highlight knockout yeah yeah, and this and this kind of reminds me of um when uh uh um tony harrison fought uh one of the charlos and In the in their rematch, i thought tony harrison was was winning a lot of the fights doing a good job of boxing, and then he got caught with that same left hook, charles charles power, same thing, canelo did last night, canelo was stalking him.

The whole fight like an animal stalking, the prey the whole fight just falling around cutting off the ring following him around um and then um.

Finally, he he caught up to him like when he when he went down.

I was like okay, i’m gon na i’m gon na.

Let you get your turn and i have something to say about uh about about honestly um.

I yo, i feel the same way i feel you know.

Plant was robbed on a couple of rounds there uh, but at the end of the day the rounds didn’t matter because it didn’t go the distance um.

You know i felt i felt it took.

It took canelo four extra rounds to get comfortable, definitely uh.

You can see that there was there was.

There was a good you know from about first to fourth before canelo could get even timing down uh, first or fourth round um.

Then you know it was just playing that game of chasing because plant did and executed his game plan properly.

Yes, he did.

What did he do? Jab jab jab? What do he brought his bicycle? He brought his bicycle with him and pedaled out the left.

He pedaled out the right.

He stayed up those ropes man, because that was the only way that he was going to be able to not get stuck.

Well again, you know tactician when it comes to cutting off the ring last night.

Last night’s match really showed you.

The skills that canelo has to be able to cut off the ring.

That’S why plant was running all night, because you know what canelo has that ability to just all of a sudden you’re stuck in a corner, and you could see that last night.

But you know my show goes out to plant for not staying planted, yeah yeah yeah.

I thought that didn’t stay planted plant rode the bike.

He pedaled man, he pedaled to the right.

He pedaled to the left.

He used that angle.

He was an angle and he kept getting out.

He kept sliding out and you could see that canelo’s frustration kept taking over, which meant that canelo just became a bull in a china shop and he was targeting and charging forward and that’s what the entire fight was.

Last night, that’s what i saw canelo’s record pissed mad, because you know what he couldn’t set up.

He couldn’t he couldn’t put together the combinations that he was looking to.

You know put together, but i do rate the fact that when he did connect he connected in in a fashion and and in good spots man, he was he was.

He was ripping the body last night as much as he could.

You know taking out that left side taking out that right side trying to get him to stop pedaling.

You know back and forth, because honestly he was frustrated that he couldn’t catch him.

Yeah yeah yeah.

You know uh most of the time when people say someone’s on their bike.

They mean when they’re, like literally running the whole time.

I don’t think plant was running that much again because when when, when you have that the the the mayweather i know, everyone called it – the philly this originally called the philly shell, but from my generation floyd’s the best to do it, and i don’t know anybody who Does it better than him, so i just called him defense, so i renamed it.

The floyd defense anyways plant was doing the floyd defense when he was in the pocket.

There was times he was not not planted like trying to trade trade a blow for blow, but he was in the he was comfortable in the pocket blocking a few punches um the whole night.

He was blocking that left hook.

Canelo was that punch that left hook that canelo landed canelo was looking for that he was hunting for that the whole night wrong.

He was hunting for that all night, long, um and then um.

You know, canelo is definitely one of the all right he’s, probably the best finisher.

Once he has.

You hurt, there’s um, you know he’s, like you sure, he’s like a shark.

You know yeah yeah um that one little drop of blood.

He smells it and then it’s finished yes, yes, one little um thing i want to bring up, though, and as far as the refereeing is nothing we could do about this.

I just hope.

Maybe there can be a little bit more uh um, just even um, i’m just noticing, when the second time when plant went down first of all too well, the second time plant went down the referee just straight up like called it off now before.

I you guys know i’m safety first, all the time, but i just you know, have flashbacks of of um of tyson fury looking like he’s dead on the ground and getting up like the undertaker yeah, but he planted when he the second knockdown he he was getting Up like he was getting up before the referee, even called it off, so i just have a little bit of a problem with that, even at the first knockdown when when he first got knocked down the referee’s supposed to look at the the other like canelo.

In that situation and make sure that he’s in the opposite corner right right, he just sprinted the plant and he started counting right.

He even looked to see to make sure canelo was in the corner yeah.

I know so uh.

You know i just because, because if if that was the case with tyson fury, the fight would have been over yeah right.

If now, if that referee did that for tyson fury, that fight would have been over and there would have been no.

So i just wish there was um.

You know i wish – maybe maybe maybe maybe there needs to be um um, like a certain plan put into place that helps these refs get on the same kind of same kind of guidelines, man on what should be calling and what they shouldn’t be calling uh yeah.

Honestly, i see i seen the same thing uh you know it’s not like plant was sleeping.

You know he wasn’t sleeping on the mat it wasn’t.

You know it was just the ref saying: okay, he’s had enough he’s done, i’m calling it and you know what at the end of the day, the ref is the only one that can stop that fight and he did and and he did it and um.

You know what my hat goes off the plant man.

Yes, please people executed a perfect game plan uh.

You know and really showed that um he is.

He is and lives up to um the fact that he has a true high ring iq man, this guy.

This guy has a great ring iq, uh, we’re gon na see big things from him.

Don’T don’t fool yourself.

This is not the last we’re hearing of plants.

We’Re going to see him in the future for sure you know what i could see a rematch uh.

You know maybe in the works eventually, but canelo has said that um guys he needs to heal um and he’s not expecting to be back until may.

So he’s not gon na he’s, he says he’s probably gon na be may when he comes back when we see canelo again in the ring um, yes, also elvis rodriguez hopes for bigger things.

After bouncing back from his first loss, which honestly i hope happens, i’d like to see this kid um bounce back with you know some some big names now but canelo plant can’t happen.

I think it’ll happen again.

I think it’ll happen again.

I don’t know because plan he’s gon na have to get to the back line because there’s a lot of guys there is.

There is carlo, you got charlo, you got benavidez, you have everybody, you have everybody, but yes, listen! Don’T count plant out.

Man he’s he’s a true, definitely not he’s a trooper, and you know what, if he has to get to the back of the line.

He’S gon na punch his way through it to get right back to where he was at then, because, honestly and truthfully, he that could have went the distance man and uh that could have been scored a different way.

We don’t know exactly.

We scored a different way by the people.

I know but [ Laughter, ] honestly, because those judges, man, that the cards were the cards were pretty crazy.

Um uh jarman had it at 96.

94, uh david moretti had it at 97.

93 and steve wisefield had it at 98.

92.

So the closest card that i saw that gave it any kind of any kind of inclination of you know something was the patricia german card was the closest man, and that was only by a two-point difference, but i just i feel that in the earlier rounds they Didn’T give all the rounds correctly, um there should have been.

There should have been a couple more rounds there that were close.

They should have been given a plan.

I believe over uh canelo, you know, canelo was just chasing last night and uh.

You know plant plant had him working to his game plan man and it was great.

It was yeah yeah yeah, yeah um there was uh.

I specifically had one two three four five five rounds that could have went either way, even though my scorecard looks kind of wide 97 92 for plan at the time that, because that’s why i specifically start off by saying it was five rounds, five rounds that could Have went either way, so i’m not saying he’s like he was clearly winning.

You know right those swing rounds.

I i just favored planting those in those swing rounds.

I didn’t think again.

Canelo with his hunting style, he’s very good at cutting off the ring and following you, wherever you’re going, but but again he’s not, he wasn’t landing in all those.

He was because he was, he was cutting cutting off and throwing yeah.

He was not landing.

He was not landing a lot, he was landing some, but not a lot.

No, he didn’t land nearly half of what he was trying, um honestly plant plant really and what i mean pedaling, i’m not saying that he was running.

I mean like he was peddling out.

The sides and not getting trapped and uh honestly, that’s what you do when you got a guy like canelo who can really cut off that angle, man, you know it’s, it’s literally three strides and you could be trapped in a corner and not even know it.

Canelo is such a tactician at playing the ring angles right, which is a big thing in boxing, which is huge man when you, when you you’re, literally corralling your opponent into a corner, so he can’t escape, and then last night plant showed you how to escape that.

Corralling, and did it in such a fashion that the opponent canelo was, was frustrated, frustrated, all the hell.

You could see it in his face um, you know, but canelo’s canelo man he’s a shark, the drop of blood in the pool.

You know what i mean he’s going to find you he’s going to get you.

He did it.

He didn’t like caution, um.

I thought it was going to go the distance and the way i had the cards scored.

I was already calling you trying to tell you that you’re probably gon na win this one and then boom it happened, man, it happened and ended.

It was close.

It was close honestly.

I had plans.

I had plans, scored for more points.

You know what vacant international boxing organization, international middle title, congratulations! Nathan, haney on that win! Also uh denzel, bentley tko third round over sam evans improves, improves now to 15 101 also another another guy that we’ve been watching here.

Man, uh ethan james uh points decision over stu, greener, uh improves to 7-0.

Like honestly, there’s a lot of these young guys that are up and coming that you got ta start watching.

Man pay attention, because you know what these fights are getting good man, all these young kids, getting together.
